It’s been one month since we started our training. Bella had worked us to the bone during that time. First thing in the morning we would head over to the west gate. From there we had to run along the edge of the city to the east gate and back. Then we would do a variety of strength training exercises. Pushups, pullups, situps, squats pretty much whatever she wanted us to do that day. We would then move onto combat training.
She would start with spending some time correcting our stances and giving advice, much like the first day. Then she would make us try to fight her. She would then give us some more advice and we’d repeat. All of that pretty much took up the whole morning.
It was the assignments after that that felt weird to me. First of all, we had to talk to the townspeople. Make friends with them, help them out, and learn to fit in with the town. This was often done alongside lunch. Then we would need to play games with whoever was wanting to play. Sometimes it was townspeople, sometimes it was wanderers, sometimes it was other adventurers. We would often play for money and I earned a good bit doing that. Javi however lost most of his and I usually had to cover for him. Finally, we would have to do some reading. I guess Bella was told that we were uneducated and gave us lots of books to read about the history of the world and its kingdoms. She also gave us books about monsters, herbology, and many other studies that could be useful while adventuring. These were much more interesting than the histories.
At the end of the day, we would return home to the bakery. We’ve enjoyed living there and since Alicia and Daniel were willing to keep us we decided to stay for a while. It was nice to be able to head back and be able to expect some food to be had and a bed to be slept in.
This morning was a little different. Before we could start our run Bella stopped us. “Hold up you two. Let’s talk before you get going. It’s been a month since you started training. How have you been feeling?”
Me and Javi both looked at each other and nodded. “We’ve been feeling better and better. This is definitely the best shape either of us has ever been in. And we actually know a bit about how to fight now.”
“Good, good. That’s to be expected. Have you two checked your abilities since you started the training?” That’s another part of the training. She had forbidden us from looking at our stats. “No, we haven’t. We’ve stayed true to our promise.”
“Very good. I would like you to check them now.” Awesome! I wonder how I’ve improved?

Similar increase to myself. This is seriously awesome. We must have been doing a lot better than I thought. “Don’t get too ahead of yourself now. That’s the biggest stat jump you’ll ever see in a month. That’s how it is for everyone when they start training. The closer you are to your maximum the harder it gets to increase a stat. You’ve seen Alicia’s stats haven’t you? She’s literally been training for decades and doesn’t have a single maxed out stat.”
Well that took a little bit of the wind out of my sails. Still an awesome improvement though. “How did we grow so quickly though? This amount of training shouldn’t have caused this much of an increase either way right?”
“You’re partially right. What you’re experiencing now is the class effect. Whenever you don’t have a class and try to train, increasing your stats feels like your maximum is half of what it actually is. Getting a class opens up the true berth of your capabilities.”
Interesting. Since nobody on Earth has a class I guess we were all operating at half capacity. “So is there a reason we got to look at our stats today? Are we moving on to the next stage of training?”
“That’s right. From now on we will be moving on to real combat experience. You’re going to come with me to complete jobs and observe how I do things. Depending on the job, I may have you participate in combat as well. But before we can begin with that, I want you to take note of your abilities. Tell me, what are your strengths and weaknesses? You first.” She pointed over at me.
“Uuuuh, I guess I’ve got good intelligence and luck, plus speed too. My weakest points are my charisma and durability.” I wasn’t sure if I needed to elaborate further or if that was- “Good, now you.” Guess I didn’t need to elaborate further.
“I’m strong and have decent physical stats, plus high charisma. I’m lacking a lot in luck and a bit in intelligence.”
“That’s right. Now what are the skills you have?”
“We have Locate, Storage, Analyze, and Power of Friendship.”
“Good. You need to know everything about yourself before you can begin to understand your enemy. Keep all of these things in mind as you observe me. Your strengths and weaknesses will define your path forward. At the end of this next month I’m going to have you two decide on a class you want to move on to. Use this period to determine what kind of class will be best for you.”
A class. An actual class. Not an Adventurer but a proper one. I grabbed my bag and my sword and got ready to follow Bella. I’ll follow her and learn the most about what I should do. And it starts here.
