ith. What have you concocted?” It was noticeable that she looked a good bit better than she had the past few days. And considering she wasn’t telling Wren to buy her a drink, she must’ve had quite the good time last night.
Rubbing his hands together, Wren approached her, “Your assumptions are correct. We have a grand proposition for you. We have devised a method to get us into the Dragon’s Highway! You will be able to explore the roads taken by your people.” Wren followed up his announcement with a little glance towards her to see her reaction.
Unfortunately, she seemed rather unimpressed, “Look, I appreciate you doing this. I really do. But I’ve accepted that I won’t be able to go. Perhaps I can go when I’m stronger but that is just not possible now.”
A wild grin grew on his face. That was just the kind of response he had hoped she would say, “Aha! But there is a fallacy in your thinking! There is a rule in the Union. If you are part of a team that defeats a monster you are considered to have defeated the monster. While you may not be able to grow strong enough to defeat a Steel Wolf right now, you have two teammates who can experience quick improvement right now and help you defeat one. How’s that?”
That caught her attention. She leaned forward and stroked her chin, “That might work. Yeah. I was so focused on my own shortcomings that I didn’t think about you two. As a group, we aren’t that far from being in a feasible range of defeating a Steel Wolf. With a little bit of effort, y’all can reach a point where you can help defeat one.”
Wren gave a little triumphant look at Javi, as if to brag about how he was correct. Javi merely rolled his eyes in response.
“I’m glad you are on board with this plan. The only thing is that we don’t actually know how far off we are and what we need to do to be strong enough. So, uh, you’ll need to guide us through that.” His statement trailed off at the end as he became more uncertain in what he was talking about.
She gave a chuckle at his unconfident tone, “Yeah, I’ve got a good idea of what you’ll need. It’s only two things really. Better equipment and a proper class. The weapons you picked up in the cave should be good for now. The enchanted clothing will be a bit more expensive than the money we have right now, so we’ll need to save up a bit. The classes should be a bit simpler. You two have had some time and gotten some experience. Tell me, what kind of class do you want?”
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
They both hesitated but Javi spoke up first, “A tank. I want to be a shield that protects the group from harm. A warrior on the frontlines that can hit hard and get hit hard.”
“Simple, though that’s not a bad thing. Having simpler abilities can grant greater flexibility in many situations. I think a defensive role is a good pathway for you, it suits your cautious but stable fighting style, plus you’ve taken quite the liking to that shield. I’d say there are two classes that would suit you right now. First, is a Shielder. They are focused purely on defense and being a shield. If you want single minded focus and immediate payoff this is what you want to take. The second is a Squire. This is not that impressive of a class. It is decent, and better than Adventurer, but compared to something like a Shielder or Swordsman, there is much less strength to be had. However, you have to be a squire to get the class of Knight, a highly coveted, well balanced, and strong class. This will be better in the long run. Take your time and think about your choice.”
She turned and looked at Wren, “And you?”
“Well, I believe that my strength lies in using Aether. I want to learn more about it and make use of it to fight. I’m not really sure what to do with it though.”
“Aether aye? You do have quite the talent for it. It would be good for you to get an Aether related class so that you don’t overflow again. Unfortunately, I don’t know as much about Aether classes. An Aether Tinkerer can make things using it. An Aether Manipulator can work with it and shape it. An Aether Infuser can buff and debuff using it. You really just have to figure out what you want to do with Aether and pursue it further.”
She looked at the both of them as they thought to themselves, “Now, the most important step after deciding what class you want is finding someone to give it to you. You can only be taught a class by someone who is that class or has been that class previously. Once they agree to teach you the class, you will need to fulfill multiple requirements from the class itself. Then you will get the class. You’re getting lower leveled classes right now, so it shouldn’t be difficult. Now hurry it up! I want to start earning money for equipment as soon as possible.”
