“Yo bro.”
“Yeah bro?”
“Let’s go do some shit bro.”
“Like what bro?”
“Go to the bar?”
“Sure.”
“Aight.”
“Trying to pick up girls?”
“Yeah.”
“Nice.”
A normal Friday night for me and my bro. We’d hang out at one of our places for a bit doing nothing, then one of us would suggest going somewhere, usually the bar. At least one of us will try to pick up a girl while we are out. So far neither of us has gotten past a one night stand with this method, and that is very rare as well. Tonight should’ve been no different. Except for one thing that would change everything.
“Hurry up man, you can’t always take so long to get ready.”
“Hey, somebody has to be the good looking one and it certainly ain’t you.”
“And it certainly ain’t you either, get your ass moving or the bar will be closed by the time we get there.”
“Yeah yeah, you say that every time. I’m just about ready.” I could see him heading out of the bathroom with his hair gelled back. I would never tell him this but he probably is the better looking of us. Not that he’s some model. But if I’m a 5 or 6 then he’s a 6 or 7.
“Alright, let’s go.” As soon as I say it I hear a crash noise. Javier’s place is right by the highway and you’ll sometimes hear people crash.
“Must’ve been a real bad one. That was loud.”
“No kidding. Y’know it’s pretty amazing that crashes happen so close by but you are never affected by them. Guess you’re in a good spot.”
“Hmm? Did I never tell you? It’s possible for stuff to crash and fly away from the highway. That’s why this place was so cheap. Only reason I can afford it y’know?”
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
“Wait wha-”
And then there was a loud noise and everything went black.
----------------------------------------
“Wh-where am I? Bro? Javi! You here!?”
“Be calm child.”
I start and turn around at the sudden voice behind me. Standing there is a person, at least I think it is. It seems to shift in form and constantly change. Though it seems to remain human in its many forms. Eventually I can hone in on a spot that seems to relatively consistently be where its eyes are.
“What are you?”
“Me? I believe the mortals of your planet would call me God. In reality I am merely a supervisor for your planet. Do you know why you would be meeting God?”
I think back and try to remember what happened, “I, I died didn’t I?”
The god gave a chuckle, “Good guess. That is what would be assumed. However, you very much did not die in that tragic accident. You will miraculously pull through. Your friend however, I cannot say the same for. Quite sad indeed.”
Despite the so-called God’s words they didn’t seem to be made sad by that. In fact if there was any emotion to be had on their face it would be a mild amusement.
“So why am I here then? If I’m not dead, surely I shouldn’t be meeting with God.”
“Well, here is something you’ll quite like. Your survival is quite opportune for me. You see, us supervisors have a few rules set in place regarding mortals and sending them to the planets of other supervisors. First of which is that they have to be dead before they can be transported. Second of which is that we cannot kill mortals ourselves. Third is that we cannot bestow mortals with any of our power. These three rules govern our actions along with a few thousand subclauses.” The God makes a large grin that shows through all of their shifting forms. “Now if you have not yet caught on to what I am talking about, I wish to send your friend to another planet as my agent.”
This whole situation seemed quite baffling to me but I had no choice but to go along with what they were saying. “So once again, what does that have to do with me?”
“Well you see, depending on the planet you send someone too it takes various amounts of lifeforce to revive them. The more of your lifeforce is used to revive you the weaker you’ll be once revived. On a planet like 2112 it would require so much life force that you would be rendered powerless. This has left me unable to have an agent on the planet despite its importance in the galactic frontier.”
This God sure loves the sound of their own voice. I’m pretty sure they could ramble on forever if I let them. “So you want Javier to be your agent? Not sure how I’m supposed to be of help here.”
The God whipped its head to look at me with a crazed expression, “Isn’t it obvious?! You are still alive! You are a wellspring of lifeforce! A lifeforce tied together with your friend. You two have a fate tied very, very closely together. And you were at the scene of the accident! It would be effortless to make it look like you both died!”
“So you want to break your own rules?”
“Exactly! We need to bend the rules to make progress! The lifeforce of the living that you have can be used to guarantee you aren’t powerless on 2112! I will revive the two of you there and you can be my agents! What do you say? Will you be my sword to lay a claim on the planet of !@#^@%?”
Suddenly I couldn’t tell what he was saying on his last word. It was like it was obscured from my perception, much like the God’s image. “What was that?”
“Oh? !@#^@%? That is related to a title for the planet. It is information you can’t have access to without at least supervisor verification. It is not important. Now will you work for me? This is the only way you will ever see your friend again.”
“Aren’t you skipping a few steps? What will we have to do as your agents?”
“It’s quite simple actually. You just need to build up achievements and it will automatically raise my prestige on the planet. I have no interest in spreading my influence among mortals. It is the fellow supervisors I am concerned about and they will recognize you as mine no matter what. So live freely and become powerful men. That is all you need to do.”
There was more to it, I know. But it would be unwise to push my luck against a God. “Fine. Revive us on this planet. But don’t expect us to spread your name, whatever it may be.”
“Ah, yes. It is important to know the name of your supervisor. I am known among my colleagues as Frantal.” For the first time, the God’s form solidified somewhat. Speaking the name seemed to reveal a bit of its truth. The lower half of what seemed now to be a he formed. A powerful jawline with a close cut beard. And a voice, deep and harsh, like a great storm about to be unleashed. This form in the formless only served to unnerve me even more. An emotion he seemed to take pleasure in.
“Off with you now. Get to work.” Massive circles of energy emerged behind him that drained on me. I could feel my consciousness fade as he pushed me away to a new world. “Oh, and when you see my ingrate of a sister, tell her that I’ll be there soon.”
