The following happens after Dee ascends to rank 14 in chapter 202. I added the text before I split below, in italics. The quote below belongs to Vihyungrang.
> “My new status. Speaking of, what is my new status?” Dee asked. She hadn’t heard anything about this before now. Her focus was finally starting to return. She wasn’t entirely sure if they had spent only seconds in this moment between seconds or if they had spent a thousand years here.
>
> “You are now what some call Nakshatra. Most know your kind as the Old Ones. You can imagine it as being rank fourteen if that makes things easier.” Eternity told her without rushing things.
>
> “Old Ones? I have a distinct impression that they are all imprisoned. Is that what this visit is about? Is that why we don’t see any rank fourteen beings around?” Dee was full of questions while also dreading the answers. If the god wanted to imprison her, she would not go quietly. She wasn’t used to her new existence, far from it, but she had a feeling it would be a rather even fight.
>
> “In part. We have placed some limitations that stop most from reaching the rank. Without help that is. Unfortunately my daughters and Death provided you with a bit too much help. I’m not here to imprison you. Unlike the Old Ones, you have not done anything to earn that imprisonment. However, your new status is still a problem. A problem that needs to be solved.” Eternity stated.
>
> “Solved, huh? And how did you intend to go about solving this problem? I should warn you that I do not intend to go down quietly if that was your plan. Besides, you contributed to the problem with your blessing.” Dee pointed out a bit accusingly.
"I'm aware of the fact," Eternity admitted. "But this universe cannot tolerate rank fourteen immortals. It's... complicated. The Guardian will attempt to fix this issue, and I’m aware of your aversion towards being forced into doing anything by others, what my daughters and Death did notwithstanding. Your Domain and Totem are a rather clear hint after all. So I’ll make you a deal. I see several ways this is going to end, but you have to make a choice."
"I'm listening," Dee prompted Eternity impatiently. She was literally seeping power and in a bad mood from everything that just happened and the stress of battle. "What are my 'choices'?" She asked. A fight with a god was the last thing she wanted after a very busy day, but she was going to take zero shits and give zero fucks. Her newfound power begged to be used, to be released. Her battle instincts were still running at full throttle.
Sensing her unrest, Eternity gave her a tender, grandfatherly smile. "The first choice would be to go on with Death's plans. You take over her place and become the goddess of death. I am sure none of us want that," He gave her a wry smile.
"Rejected. Next," She replied curtly.
"The second choice is to do nothing. The Guardian will come for you after a while, and the aftermath will be the destruction of this reality. Please let's skip this one as well, I'm adding it just for the sake of completeness.
"The third choice is exile. I can make arrangements for you to go to another universe better equipped to deal with someone your level," Dee frowned and Eternity added, "Don't worry, even there you'll be a singular existence. You also don't have to go right now, I'm not in a rush. We know you are not one to lead a boring life and eventually you will tire of the peace and lack of challenge this reality will offer you. There's no mortal able to face you and not even most gods."
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
Dee nodded. She really didn't want to kill any gods again, but the possibility never left the table. But what Eternity just said rang true. Now that she was a Nakshatra, not even the Solarians were much of a threat. But she felt that a fight of that magnitude would have severe collateral damage. Maybe destroy a galaxy or two. Something in her, maybe her angelic side, shuddered at the thought of trillions of innocents dead because some hormone-induced idiots picked a fight they had no chance of winning. She glanced sideways where the Solarians were. Dee thought about their calculating nature and doubted they would even try.
"I have too many people I like here. Exile seems bad, even if it would be self-imposed. I wouldn't mind visiting a new reality or two on vacation, but I want to stay here," She told Eternity after reflecting for a while more.
The old deity seemed to have all the patience in the universe. He sagely nodded.
"Can I present you with the fourth choice? I know you disliked when you lost your kitsune form. Honestly, Umbra's scientists did a great job putting you together, but they really had no idea what they were doing. Your very existence was a miracle. But you are not all you could be, given your bloodlines."
That's one thing she always pushed to the far reaches of her mind. That she was a chimera. Dee was proud of what she was, the mix of demon, angel, and dragon. But several things flashed in her mind. The struggle to get her kitsune flame. Obtaining rank 10 and destroying a huge chunk of Pantheon just from the released power. The loss of control. Of all things, that was the worse. She looked at her hands. Her angel hands. Yes, she knew her form was flawed but she was proudly flawed.
"You should be proud of what you accomplished even though you were flawed. But there's no shame in seeking perfection," Eternity advised as if he could read her mind. "Wouldn't a cripple seek a cure for their legs? Would a blind person reject the chance to see again? No. Do that make them less than what they are? Absolutely not."
"What do you mean?" She asked defensively.
"I mean I can help you if you help me. The fourth choice is rebirth. You can start anew and keep some things from your current life. Your totem, for example, is indelible. You wouldn't have to build another one unless you changed your concept. I would give you one new form, a perfect blend of your bloodlines, keep your current ones, and the ability to freely shape-change between them. Your pool of divine power and divine blessings would also remain. We couldn't take those back even if we wanted. All your allies will remember you. You'll keep your skills and powers although your psionic energy will be set back to the starting amount. I have no doubt you would recover quickly.
"I know it is a delicate subject. But it's a chance to live your childhood with Selvaria. Grow up surrounded by people you love. I have no doubt you'd reach rank thirteen even faster in your second life."
It sounded too good to be true for Dee. She knew there had to be a bad part somewhere.
"What's the catch?"
"You will return to rank 1, I told you as much. The soul well will be removed from your domain. You no longer will be the focus of chaos. And the holy energy Lumen is channeling through you will also be lost. This will knock those three down a peg or two. I hope you don't mind."
Death, Lumen, and Umbra used Dee. They gave her power but kept their cards close to their chests. Did Dee want revenge? She wasn't sure. She was sure she wanted a nap. A decade-long nap. And maybe some food. Delicious food would be great.
Eternity chuckled, clearly showing he was reading Dee's mind.
"Food," She demanded.
The god showed her a bowl. Inside, some broth where noodles, vegetables, and other things floated.
"This is food from another universe. I know you will like it. If you go with my suggestion, I'll give you a spell to use divine power to summon as many of these as you want."
Dee took the bowl and cleaned it in a few moments. She licked her lips to savor the last drops of the broth.
"What's it called?" She asked as she handed the bowl back.
Eternity smiled again. "This food is called lamen."
Dee raised an eyebrow, still skeptical. "As much as I want?" Eternity nodded. "This better be as you said, old man. One rebirth, coming through."
