“7 years ago, a great misfortune fell upon Earth, we were besieged by creatures we today call magical beasts. But at the same time, people awoke a power we call magic and used it to push back these beasts. The magical beasts, and the hunters that fight them, are categorized into 7 grades, weakest to strongest they are as follows, F-Grade, D-Grade, C-Grade, B-Grade, A-Grade, S-Grade, and finally Ancient Grade.”
The person speaking was Professor Vox, a young teacher in his mid-twenties. His back was facing the classroom behind him while he spoke, only showing his simple attire of black dress pants, a white dress shirt, and his pale skin. Turning around again to face the class his black tie and thin face were visible. His hair was short, brown, and styled into a middle part.
“Most people assume that these grades are determined solely by the strength of the beast, and that is a factor in the grade, but a more accurate statement is that these grades are determined by the density of the beast’s magical energy.”
Terran, a student in the class taught by Professor Vox, sighed at the boring lecture. He had heard all of this before, and even worse he lived it. 7 years ago, when the magical beasts first invaded, his father awakened and became one of the most powerful awakeners in the USA. Then his dad became even more powerful by becoming the head of the DME, the Department of Magical Education. Terran was placed with the best of the best in Heaven Magica, the number 1 magical school, and has been here for 4 years.
Terran was an average height and build for a teenager, with lanky limbs that showed he spent more time in books than working on himself physically. His straight blond hair was cut short in a low fade and his angular face was pointed by his chin and nose. He wore the standard uniform of all of the students in the school, a simple red and white suit for the males, or a long skirt for the females.

“Alright class, I have an announcement to make. From here on out we will be joined by a new student. His name is Valentine, and I would like all of you to make sure he is welcomed.” Professor Vox spoke up to the class, breaking Terran’s train of thought.
A 17-year-old boy walked into the classroom at a brisk pace as soon as Professor Vox finished his announcement. His long curly black hair was tied back into a man bun that rested at the back of his head. His black glasses sat atop his wide nose, his face was handsome with a strong jawline. He was around six and a half feet tall, with his frame being well-filled out and muscular, and his skin was a warm brown. His outfit matched that of Terran and likewise the rest of the students in the classroom. While he wouldn’t pass for a bodybuilder, it was obvious that he put effort into his physical training. His muscles were the focus of most of the students’ attention, and most of the class looked at them with a confused look.
“Good morning, my name is Valentine, hope we can get along.” The short speech was not much to think about.
“You may take a seat now Valentine, anywhere there is an open spot you can sit.” Professor Vox said.
Valentine examined the room, it was a half-circle, having multiple levels of desks for students to sit at. Each level was split into 3 sections, each of those sections having a long shared desk for 2 students to sit at. Splitting the sections were walkways that ascended the 5 levels of the class. There were only 24 students in the class, but every level was occupied by at least one student. Most sat near the front of the classroom, closer to the teacher and board. But there was one student on the very top level, in the upper right-hand corner of the room. Valentine took a moment to think about his choice of seat and finally decided on the top level in the leftmost seat.
Soon after sitting down, Valentine noticed that Terran, the only other student sitting at the top level, was glaring at him. But before he could think about what he had done to offend someone he didn’t even know the name of a loud voice at the front of the class that drew his attention.
“Good morning everyone, I know you probably want to talk to the new student as much as you can, but we have to get class started at some point.” A new teacher, showed by the matching outfit to Professor Vox, had now entered the classroom, Professor Reagan. He was similar to Valentine in that his body was well-toned but that is where the similarities ended. His short thin messy hair was matched by a similar beard. And his raspy voice scratched at the ears of all of the students. “Today we are going to start working on the construction of magic circles and therefore, how to increase the power of your spells.”
