Terran burst into his room only minutes after the end of class. He had no more classes for the day and was eager to finish his homework. While Terran did not like the repetitive classes that only went over things he had already learned from his father, he was still a good student. He knew that to be able to get the best hunter to apprentice under, he needed the best grades. And he had the best grades, it was only a matter of time before he was apprenticing and becoming a hunter.
It only took Terran an hour to finish all of his homework for the week. All he had left to do for the night was mess with the magic circle that Valentine was sketching into his notebook. Terran had already memorized all of the basic magic circles and this wasn’t any of them, this again confirmed to Terran that Valentine was nothing special, he couldn’t even draw a simple magic circle. All Terran had to do was draw the circle onto his floor with a piece of chalk. Then he began supplying the circle with a little bit of magic. Terran could test a circle’s effectiveness without fully activating it by simply pouring magic into the circle without putting the required amount in.
It only took a second of pouring magic into the circle for it to begin glowing in a blinding light. Terran was taken aback by how bright the circle glowed. While the development of magic was explosive, with discoveries and refinements to understanding happening constantly, this was like nothing Terran had ever seen. It was widely understood that the brighter a magic circle, the better the mana refinement happening. But the only spells with magic circles that had been improved to this level and could shine this brightly were the simplest ones.
But Terran had memorized all of the basic spells and their circle formations, and this circle was not one of them. There were two possibilities that Terran could think of as to why this spell circle was so bright. One was that Valentine copied this spell circle from somewhere after seeing it, in which case it was dangerous for Terran to be caught knowing about it before it was made public. If the original creator saw they could take action against him, and while his father was powerful, he would not protect Terran at the cost of his reputation. The second possibility was less likely but worse for Terran. If Valentine refined this spell circle himself then it could ruin his position at the top of the school. Terran decided that it would be better to just cover up everything and question Valentine later.
After Terran’s hasty cover-up of his experiment, he needed to relax with one of his favorite pastimes, reading in the school’s library. This school was the best magic school in the nation, and as the best, they had the best facilities. Like a college campus, they had many different facilities that you would likely never go into if you didn’t know about them. Terran had found one of these facilities during his first year in attendance at the school and decided that he would use it as his place to relax. The facility in question was a small library that didn’t house any of the magical textbooks that would be in the main library, it was a library that was filled with normal books.

Terran made it to the library at just the right time, it was an hour before dinner would begin being served in the dining halls, if he waited 45 minutes after that then the majority of people would be gone before he ate. He hated to be in the same room with so many people, he would rather wait. Terran could snack on the complimentary snacks and drinks that the library provided while waiting for dinner.
Terran sat down with his tea and crackers and began reading the fantasy novel that he had been reading for several days now. But something bothered him almost immediately after he sat down. Around one of the bookshelves, just barely in view from the chair that Terran had claimed as his own, was someone sitting in a seat. Normally this wouldn’t bother Terran, this library wasn’t popular, but it also wasn’t completely unknown. There were a few people who, like Terran, claimed their little seats here to read. But the seat that Terran could see from his own was never occupied before.
Terran felt a little irritating sting, if someone had just found this library, what if that person was Valentine? Terran promptly got up from his seat to investigate the new visitor, if it was Valentine, it would irritate Terran, but he wasn’t completely intolerant of change. Terran would, if Valentine apologized for invading two of Terran’s spaces, let Valentine stay here, as long as he moved away from his view.
Valentine could feel Terran’s gaze from a mile away, and he could hear his footsteps as soon as he got up and began walking toward him. Valentine didn’t know what Terran had against him, he didn’t even know his name until some of the other students told him. As soon as Valentine had sat down on the upper level of the classroom Terran began staring daggers at him. It wasn’t until Terran left the classroom that one of Valentine’s classmates, Kaedric, told Valentine that Terran was a loner who thought so highly of himself that he avoided other students like the plague. Valentine sat at the top level to avoid being surrounded by strangers on his first day of school, but all of his classmates excluding Terran were incredibly friendly.
Terran finally made his way to the section that Valentine was sitting at and when he locked eyes with Valentine he walked even quicker until he was directly in front of the table he sat at.
“Do you think just because I let you sit at the top level of the classroom I would let you–”
Before Terran could finish his sentence, he was cut off by a loud rumble outside the library. Terran stopped his speech while Valentine hastily got up from his sitting position and began making his way toward the entrance of the library, Terran quickly followed suit. After making it to the entrance of the library Valentine opened it to find the outside to be not the campus. Terran made it to the door just in time to see the same scene that Valentine was faced with.
