Chapter 5 - Sneaky Flight

Chapter 5 - Sneaky Flight

[What’s up, host? How’s the slaughter of innocents going?]

“Amazingly well, thank you for asking. I have a question. Is there a way to get exp other than quests?”

[There are two ways, both of which you will get after finishing the second step of your main quest. The first is a function of the system called the mission page. There, you will be able to find a list of different tasks you can take on for various rewards, sort of like side quests. Those usually have no timeframe and the active ones will be listed in your quests page. They will give out similar rewards to the main quest, but much less of them. The other way is a general mission which will give you exp whenever you work on it. You could choose anything from knitting blankets to bedding beauties to murdering people. You will be able to get new missions to add on to your already existing ones at stages 2 and 4, then the first stage of the second main quest and then the fifth stage.]

“Okay, thanks.” Orion closed the system and took a second to strategize the next day. Thanks to a lucky break, he had managed to get an associate and complete half of his quest. Thanks to his kills, he was also making strides in the other part of the mission. After some quick calculations, he estimated he needed to kill three level 1s to break through to level 2. He decided he would first go to the bar to see if Ren had any fights for him and scout out any potential targets, then explore the rest of the pleasure district for targets, go to the bazaar to buy some gear and then see what more he had to do. With that, he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

As soon as he awoke the next morning, he quickly took his dagger, threw it in his satchel and left the hideout. He saw that he had awoken at the perfect time, as sunrise was just a couple minutes away. He made his way over to a teleportation array and headed to the pleasure district. He immediately ran towards his bar and made it in a couple of minutes.

He entered the bar and saw that it was almost empty, which made sense since the sun hadn’t even risen yet. He sat down to wait for a few minutes in case Ren walked in. Currently, only Orion, a security guard and some old man were present. After activating ‘All-Seeing Eyes’, he saw that the old man was a mortal and the guard was a level 1.2 human with no physiques or skills, so this battle should be very easy for Orion. He unleashed his aura, stood up, and calmly walked over to the old man.

“Sir, stop right there!”

Unfortunately, the guard’s cries were left unheard as Orion walked up to the terrified man, who looked like a deer caught in headlights. Before he could do anything to him, the guard launched himself at Orion in a desperate attempt to protect the client. Orion spun around to face the oncoming attack. He took out his dagger and prepared to meet the attack. The guard landed less than thirty centimeters away from him, and immediately fired off a powerful reinforced cross. Orion stepped out of the way and smiled. He pushed all of his aura into his dagger and crouched down. The guard, confused, just stood in a defensive position, sword now in hand. Orion kicked off towards the guard at surprising speeds, reinforced dagger outstretched. Any hope for dodging was now clearly destroyed and the guard could only try to deflect the powerful dagger attack. However, unbeknownst to him, Orion was not hurtling at him thanks to his powerful jump, but thanks to his skill ‘Flight’, which he had secretly activated at the moment he jumped. As Orion neared the guard, he feigned stabbing at him and then flew by him, landing right behind him and rapidly spinning around. The guard, not expecting this, had put all his weight and strength into a sword swing to block the dagger strike, leaving him off balance and defenseless. Orion stepped in towards the guard and extended his arm, bringing the dagger a few centimeters in front of the guard’s heart and pulled with all his might, lodging the dagger down to the hilt in the poor man’s chest. The aura in the dagger exploded out, ravaging the contents of the man’s ribcage, killing him instantly. Due to their accelerated reflexes and speed, the battle had only taken three or four seconds, so the old man barely managed to get out of his chair before being greeted by Orion’s bloodied grin. He waltzed over to the trembling man and sliced his throat with no delay, blood spraying all over him, staining his cloak. He threw the bodies into a corner and calmly sat down, enjoying the surge of energy as he broke through to level 1.6, almost reaching the seventh step. After just a couple of minutes, Ren entered the bar and immediately froze, staring at the bloodied cloaked figure and the brutalised corpses. Orion threw down his hood and smiled pleasantly at his associate.

“Well, hello, my friend!”

“So, you’ve been keeping yourself busy.” Ren looked pointedly at the bloody corpses in the corner.

“Well, you know me, always trying to get stronger.” He unleashed his increasingly powerful aura, causing his associate to almost fall to his knees. Ren’s face was a white sheet of terror and surprise.

“You’re a cultivator? Well, that would explain your fighting prowess. Please, restrain your energy, my good sir.” With a chuckle, Orion withdrew his aura, allowing Ren to stand up and dust himself off.

“So, you’ve got a fight for me?”

“Indeed. I was hesitant to propose it as your opponent would be a level 1.3 fighter, but now I see that that wouldn’t be a problem. The fight will take place in an illegal arena at a secret location, and there will be absolutely no rules, so this should be a great opportunity for you to improve yourself once more. Additionally, the reward will be six gold coins. Are you willing?”

One gold coin was worth 10 silver, which was worth 15 copper. A chicken breast from the bazaar usually cost around 7 or 8 copper.

“Of course. Where and when should I meet you?”

“Please be here at noon. I will lead you to the location from there.”

“Perfect. I shall see you then.”
