Do I have a health bar? Is this actually like a video game? I look around me but see nothing. Maybe it's one of those things that only appear when I'm in combat or using that resource. I sigh audibly. "Are you alright Milady?" The girls asks.
I turn my attention to her, resting the tip of my sword against the wooden floor boards. "Uh, yeah." I say unsure. Do I ask her questions? She may think I'm a lunatic. I look around though, seeing nothing familiar. A cute living room, wooden frame sofa and chair, fur rug in front of a fireplace, attached to a kitchenette. Only one bathroom and two bedrooms. Interesting. "Where are we?" I finally ask her.
"Oh! We're in the town of Rosewood. You're the lady of the household Riverclover." She says as if this was normal. Maybe I really am in a game and this is really a tutorial. My mind takes a moment to process this but I quickly snap out of it and smile. I hope this can be my new life then. Or if this really is a dream then I don't want to wake up.
I turn back to the door those men busted and walk through the splintered wood. I'm met with destruction of what must have been a beautiful little town. Flames reach the sky and trees are a flame next to the houses. Everything seems oddly quiet though, only a couple of enemies. A red bar above their heads indicating their health and in red is a name, Ruffian, Level 2. Interesting. I have no armor and just a basic sword, but I did just level up to level 2. He looks to have leather armor and a sword but no shield which is good for me. I crouch and sneak around him, staying behind him before getting close enough to jab my sword through his back and pull it back out.
He groans out in pain but some how it didn't kill him, his health bar only a sliver. He turns and sloppily swings his sword at me which I easily deflect and strike him, effectively killing him. The rush tingles through my body and I smile to myself. This feeling-- its incredible! I crouch down next to the body, it feels weird to be searching a corpse but I need better gear. I am not taking his bloody armor though, probably wouldn't fit anyways.
I pick up his sword and the stats show next to the item, it looks like there's durability on items here. This one is almost broken, and the damage isn't as good as my current sword. I sigh and stand, taking his small gold pouch and nothing else. Of course I might have to search houses for items. Great. This will take some getting use to. I look in the pouch, only four gold, well its better than nothing. I should check my own house too, probably more than just a sword in there. I look around again, I think I'll fix up this town and make it like a home base. That girl can be my house maid. I have to go back and see if that's even possible here.

With the town how it is but only a couple goons lurking around, there has to be other survivors of the attack. I should find them as soon as possible. I kill another goon and level up again, putting a perk into Stamina this time. This time I added a perk to my attack tree, making my first hit have a 20 percent chance to deal double damage on the first hit.
I get back to my house to see the maid tidying up the bit of mess remaining from the break in. "What's your name?" I ask her.
"Isabella." She says with a warm smile.
"That's pretty. Mine's Artemis." I say, thinking of a new name on the spot. No one here would know. "I think there are other survivors, I'll find them and help them settle. You'll be safe with others in the town."
"Where will you be milady?" She asks.
"On an adventure. But I'll still help build back up the town." I say with a grin. The sound of going on an adventure, no one being able to tell me no, sounds like such a blissful idea. I'm giddy thinking about it.
"Alright. Then I shall remain here and look after the home." She says with a nod. Just as I hoped. I nod in return before resting my sword against the couch and heading to my room. I was in everyday clothes, a blouse and jeans, nothing out of the ordinary, but I have to have something better hidden away in my belongings here. I search the dresser and find a piece of leather armor, sweet. I put it on over my blouse and it fits nicely. I open my menu and check my stats to see that my defense went up by a decent bit. I can equip five pieces of armor; chest, arms, legs, boots, head, and shoulders. I close the menu and keep looking through my room. I find a backpack that helps with inventory space and a pair of boots that have a stamina buff on them along with a single health potions and a pouch with a hundred gold.
I feel like an actual adventurer. I see a mirror in the corner of the room and approach, a menu prompt shows up letting me know I can change my appearance. I think I'm okay for now, but I put my almond colored hair up in a ponytail, my crystal green eyes filled with excitement for the first time in ages. Goose bumps prickled my tan skin as I checked myself out in the mirror.
Hello new me. I thought with a smile.
