The onslaughts of game choices overflow my brain. I close my eyes for a second to shut them out, but quickly feel myself falling as the rocks below me give way. “Shit fuck!” I yell. With no time to react and my mind dulled by the thunderous headache I quickly pick the first two and pray that the egg will protect me.
When I come to, I am surrounded by kobolds. They moved my body to a bed made of pelts. They are dogeza bowing to me. I sit up, something strange is poking into my back. I look behind me, on my back are two massive dragon wings. I chuckle at that new development, unfurling them and then bring them back in. Two brave kobolds look up. One looks old, she is dressed in bone armor and carries a staff. The other is a large kobold who is holding a rusted two handed sword. They are the only two kobolds who have evolved and they seem to take a leader like role in the group.

My scales, despite being thicker, feel like skin instead of scales. Now that I look more human I’m suddenly aware just how naked I am. I’ll find clothes later, I should address these kobolds first. “Lift your heads.” The shamen kobold bows to me “Master, what do you require of us?” Oh, they think I committed regicide for personal gain. “I don’t require anything. I was inspired by the noble sacrifices from your tribesmen to free you from your tyrannical dragon.”
“We appreciate that Dragonkin-sama, but..”
“Just call me Anon.”
“We appreciate that Anon-sama, but we are kobolds.” Not what I intended, but whatever.
“I was a kobold before. I evolved out of it.”
“How would you like us to evolve?”
I’m starting to think they don’t get my point. “What I mean is you are free. Free from being slaves.” All I get is blank looks and quizzical blinks from the crowd. They are like a tamed elephant. They can’t live without a master. Being the person who killed their previous master; the responsibility falls to me.
“Shit, well I guess we can start by closing up the hole in the mound and taking apart the dragon’s corpse. Yall can eat dragon right?” They nod. It’s a fitting end for him. What happened to not eating things that can speak. That only applies to non dickbags. “Good, yall are a big tribe. It’ll be hard to feed you all.” I’ll have to look into agriculture. I stand up and dust myself off. Now if a time of rebuilding.

All that for picking the elementalist kobold race? Not bad. Speaking of evolutions. I grab a rock. With the strength of a dragon I should be able to crush it in my hand. I squeeze as hard as I can, but nothing happens to it. I check the dragonborn and elementalist descriptions again. The downside of the elementalist kobold must have canceled out my strength bonus. Leaving me at the strength of a normal man. That’s fine. It came with magic, and it’s not like I can’t train my strength up in the future.

The kobolds began to dissect the corpse while I faced the task of fixing the mound. “Move earth!” I swept my hands and a large portion of the dirt atop the dragon’s corpse moved towards the wall. Now to just repeat this process until it’s filled in. As I worked I watched the kobolds go about their work. The kobold warrior was using his sword to dig under the scales of the dragon and sever the skin. He was cutting the dragon in smaller parts that a team of regular kobolds could carry closer to the bonfire, for further processing. I stopped fixing the wall. He was in need of more cutting tools, my backpack, which I left at my camp had two knives and in it. He had just finished severing one of the dragon’s fingers. Then he ordered three kobolds to roll it out of the way. Two of the kobolds went to roll it from the back while one went to push on it from the front. The one pushing it from the front was quickly steam rolled by it as the other two rolled it toward the bonfire. I chuckle, could he not see that that was going to happen? The steamrolled kobold quickly got up. Holding his wrist, which was now bent backwards. He rushed off to the Kobold Shaman who casted a healing spell on him. It twisted his broken wrist back into place. Then he quickly returned to get further orders from the Kobold Warrior. At least he’s a real trooper about his injury. The kobolds work with a sense of clumsiness that is almost endearing. The kobold Warrior notices me watching him and bows his head. “Raise your head. I was just coming over to tell you about my old camp. I left some of my belongings halfway up the mountain. Could you send a few kobolds to retrieve them? In the backpack there are two knives that will help you process the dragon.” He nodded and immediately called over the two kobolds that had finished rolling the dragon’s finger. He commanded, they nodded, and then they went off to grab my stuff.
“They follow what you say?”
He nods.
“Can you speak?”
He nods again.
“Well, I’m the new de-facto leader and I have big plans for these kobolds, but I need someone to help manage them.”
He nods again. It’s getting rather annoying. I can’t tell if he’s just acknowledging that I’m speaking or if he’s picking up what I’m putting down.
“Would you like to be my second in command?”
“Second in command?”
“Yeah, I’ll make most of the decisions, but you get to pass them down to the other kobolds and you can keep order when I’m not around.”
“Like a dragoness?”
“What?”
“Verde, the dragon, had dragoness. She ordered us around when Verde was asleep.”
That’s a very pressing plot point that he just dropped on me. “When is she coming back? Do I have to prepare a trap?”
He smiled at me. “Dragon-kobold have kobold thoughts. The first thought is to make trap. Not needed she very far gone. She say ‘Verde, you worthless dragon this is not what I was promised when my father forced me to mate you.’ Then she flew off.” Oh, he was mentioning a Ex-dragoness. I guess that plot point wasn’t at all pressing. Hopefully she doesn’t get any nostalgic feelings for her ex.
“I mean, it’s not like that at all. I’m going to make rules, you’ll be in charge of upholding those rules. Like a police man or a knight.”
“What are those?”
I facepalm at my own stupidity. I am going to have to explain this from square one, which will require some time.
“Alright, here’s about how it’ll work. I’m going to make you responsible for things like no stealing from each other and no fighting. The kobold shamen will be in charge of education. She seems smart enough and already plays a respected role in this tribe.”
He nods. I sigh and refocus on filling the gap in the hillside. This is going to be a process. The type of process that gets skipped over and recapped at episode break.
