Chapter 19: The theatre goer

Chapter 19: The theatre goer

They know I’m a chosen. Why else would they now be living peacefully with the kobolds. None of them have left. I gave them the supplies to leave, but none of them have left. It’s fine if they know as long as that doesn’t leak from the cave, but they're constantly trying to get me on their side.

“Kobolds are basically ground dwellers. They would fit in well with the mole people.” Mole person.

“You have wings. You should obviously support the air dwellers.” Owl girl.

“The tree dwellers have strong ties to the elves they could get kobolds recognized as an official ally.” Squirrel girl.

“Fuck my cunny and give me gold.” Dog girl.

“It’s not like I want to stay here or anything. I just have nowhere else to go. The plains have been turned into a battlefield.” Gazelle girl.

Only two of them are actually loyal to me. One because of gold the other is just tsundere. “Oh yeah. That reminds me. Yall don’t have jobs and you haven't been told the rules yet. I read them off the rules and give them their first months pay.

“Uwa! One gold! Mistew dwagon is very generous!”

“What do you mean?” One gold should be the lowest I can pay them. It is the most basic currency. Verde only kept gold coins.

“One gold is enough to buy a house in human countries.”

“It’s what! That’s ludacris. Then how do humans buy things smaller than houses.”

“They use copper and silver, duh.” There are copper and silver coins. Verde, the dragon, only had gold coins in his hoard. I didn’t know there were any other denominations. It would make sense that a dragon would only hoard gold. I laugh to myself. It’s been a few months since I started paying my kobolds like this. My kobolds are now richer than most humans. How absurd! Not like there is anything to spend the gold on here. Bob is the richest kobold because the less lizard brained kobolds see the use in having full sets of plate armor and he is the only person who can make it. Yap would be the second richest because he got savvy and has started making Bob pay for extra materials. Yip the third because kobolds like fish and he supplies fish. Even without my direct supervision they have developed basic capitalism, but they have no sense of how much their money is actually worth. I need to bring in products from other civilizations that will act as baselines.

I need imports.

I turn to the gazelle woman and Bluey. “Are either of you good with trade?”

“Uwa! Bluey love gold!”

“My father was a merchant before the war broke out. I was attempting to keep the family business alive when the orc captured are caravan to the Baron’s city.”

Perfect! “Great great. How does taking 10% sound?”

“Of what?”

“The profits. I send you out to the baron’s city to get items that the kobolds can buy with their salary.”

“You pay the kobolds?” They ask with a look of sheer confusion.

“Of course. Those rules I just read off. They are universal to everyone under me.”

They look surprised, but accept it. “Sure. We will take 10% of the profits.” I was going to take 10% of the profits, but now that I see the confusion and their eagerness to accept it then I don’t mind if it’s reversed.

With them having a job that leads me to the other three. The problem children. “What can yall do?”

“I can throw a spear so far into the sky that it can break an owl’s wing.” The squirrel girl gives the side eye to the owl lady. “That is useless to me unless we are attacked. What actual job can you do?” The squirrel girl shrugs. “I can tend to your needs. If that’s what it takes to get you to join the tree dwellers.” She licks her lips. Another flag already? “You’re going to be a basket weaver.”

“I’m a warrior! Not some lowly home husband!” homehusband? I look at her weirdly. The owl lady chimes in. “The lesser specieses have odd roles of gender. The ground dwellers believe that the female should stay home and tend to the young. The tree dwellers believe that is the male job. Us airdwellers are progressive in that we believe that the young do not need tending.”

That clears that up, but doesn’t paint any of them in a good light. “Everyone in this cave but the old and the young are warriors. We aren’t at war. We don’t need warriors. Go weave baskets. The kobolds will show you how.”

I turn, giving the finger guns to the mole girl. “And you will do great mining. Go find Yap the kobold and touch bases with him.”

“Pft. Racist.”

“Do you want another job? Because the only other jobs we have are fishing and farming.”

“Mining it is then.”

“And I’ll take fishing.” The owl lady declares.

“Perfect.”

I let them leave for the day of work. Leading a country is easy, just mildly stress inducing. Luckily I have a vacation planned for the next few days. I will finally make good on my promise to be the baron’s granddaughter’s university project, but first I need to visit the Kobold warrior.

“Who are you?” In the kobold warrior’s office isn’t the kobold warrior. It is instead a four feet tall ripped kobold who carries dual scimitars. “I am hurt that you don’t recognize me lord Anon.”

“Inspect.”

Race: Kobold, Kobold Warrior, Kobold General

Level: 2/40

Skills: Leadership(Major)

“Oh, it’s you Kobold Warrior.” guess now I can’t call him Kobold Warrior anymore. “Or should I say, Kobold General.” He smiles at me and nods.

“When did that happen?”

“The battle with the goblins was fierce. We cleared most of their camps. Many of us have evolved.” That’s good. I thought some of them looked taller.

“Either way. There are five new residents in the cave, along with the goblins I took in. I will be going to the human city for a few days. You’re in charge.” He nods. I give him finger guns as I fly away.

I've been giving the finger guns a lot lately. What am I bisexual?
