Repair

Uncommon - Level 3

Attempt to repair an item. Success depends on multiple factors such as level of skill, level of item, and how damaged the item is

This pattern repeated for the rest of the week. Jason had learned how to craft a couple more items such as a short bow and had increased all his skills. He had also stopped by the blacksmith’s forge a couple of times to keep his skills in top shape. At the end of the second week, he lay in bed before logging out and looking at his skills.

Appraisal

Rare - Level 1

The ability to appraise. Information seen depends on the level of skill and level of what you are appraising

Something Jason found interesting is that it worked on everything. Items, trees, buildings, and even people. Clearly, this would be a useful skill for him. Similar to the end of last week, Jason once again contemplated what profession to pursue next. His options included Alchemy, Tailoring, Leatherworking, or Enchanting. After a night of deliberation and some research online out of the game, he decided upon Leatherworking. After a nice shower and a good night’s rest, Jason headed to Hyde’s Hides. After opening the door to a small shop on the main crafting road, he noticed a man humming to himself near the back of the shop. The man was quite small, perhaps 5 foot 7 (170cm), and quite thin. He seemed quite jovial, the way he basically danced around the store. Jason coughed lightly and began speaking.

“Hello there? My name is Jason. Are you Hyde by any chance?” after a smile and a nod, he continued,

“I was wondering if you could teach me how to work with leather?” Hyde, continuing to smile, said,

“Ahh yes! Jason! I heard about you from some crafting associates. I would love to teach you how to work with leather! Sadly, I seem to be running low on hides… Do you mind if you could get me 5 common quality angry bull beast hides?” Jason nodded, internally rolling his eyes at the repetitive nature of these crafters. While he was thinking, he missed a pamphlet being thrown at him. *Splat*. Jason was shaken out of his thoughts by paper smacking his face. He heard laughing as he pulled the paper from his face. It was a pamphlet on how to skin animals. He heard Hyde begin to talk,

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

“Good thing I didn't throw the knife! Here's a skinning knife on the house! Remember, 5 common quality hides!” After reading the pamphlet, Jason received a notification.

Skinning

Common - Level 1

Increases skinning speed, increases drop rate, and increases chance for rare drops

As he approached the forest, Jason wondered about how realistic his potent gatherer perk was, as he could get 2 animal skins from a single beast. Either way, he shrugged off those thoughts as he heard thundering stops nearby. He pulled out his dagger and began a hunting spree. It took a long time to slowly kill a bull, hide to regenerate health, and then hope not to fail to skin it. Sadly he did fail… a lot. After 29 bull kills he had successfully gotten all 5 hides at common quality.

Dagger Mastery

Common - Level 7

Skinning

Bull Beast Hide - Common

An un-tanned fresh hide from a common bull beast, can be turned into bull beast leather

After his little escapade into the forest, he made his way back to Hyde’s Hides, 2 hours later from when he first left. Hyde was smiling while relaxing on a chair when he got back. Hyde exclaimed,

“Ahh! Jason! I was expecting you soon! Did you get the Hides?” Jason took the hides out and laid them on a nearby table. Hyde seemed to glow with joy and began excitedly speaking.

“Woah! Quite well-skinned for a beginner! They are perfect for my demonstration to you. Watch closely!” Hyde grabbed the hides behind his store and soaked them in water. After many steps, such as hammering them, coating them in lime, kneading them in a strange substance which Hyde called “fermenting powder”, and finally submerging them in a bath of liquid called Tannin. This all was just to tan the hides. After watching the demonstration, Jason received a pop-up.

Leatherworking

Common - Level 1

The ability to craft items with leather, the higher the level, the more you can craft and which leathers may be used

Jason found it interesting how tanning was considered under leatherworking, but it didn’t really matter to him. After being shown how to work with finished leather, he began making very basic shoes. By the end of the day, he made a few common pairs but had made many more poor pairs.

Leatherworking

Common - Level 4

The ability to craft items with leather, the higher the level, the more you can craft and which leathers may be used

Hyde looked over his work and exclaimed,

“This is crazy! The amount of improvement between the first pair you made and the last is astounding, I would even consider selling the last pair you made if it was just a little better! Good job Jason!” Jason beamed at Hyde and left towards the inn with a spring in his step. He realized that it was similar to his previous beginnings with his other crafting skills, but that didn’t change his mood. He was going to have to do another repetitively similar beginner crafting quest and he was ready, and happy even, to do it! During the week he completed many of the quests given to him by Hyde, similar to the previous professions he worked in. Jason also continued to work on his skills including Appraisal and Transmutation. Additionally, he had leveled up twice.

Player “Jason Adara” Is The First Player To Craft A Rare Item

Congratulations!

Jason, getting over the previous messages, was enthralled by the glowing metal in front of him. It was time to use his skills to craft himself a weapon. After some research on the internet, he walked through the shopping district, filled with pc and npc shops. He was looking for high-quality logs and hides that were better than he could get himself nearby. After some searching, he found 3 things.

Birch Log - Uncommon

A very well-chopped birch log of high quality.

Willow Log - Uncommon

A very well-chopped willow log of high quality.

Cunning Fox Hide - Uncommon

A very well-skinned hide of high quality.

He started the process of his weapon-making with Tungsten Steel. By alloying steel, and about 3% tungsten, the metal would be very heat, corrosion, and wear resistant. But normal steel wouldn’t be enough for Jason, so he used his genesis iron instead, as well as the highest quality source of carbon he could find. After that, and alloying it with tungsten, the first step was done.

Tungsten Steel Ingot - Rare

A very well-crafted Ingot with high-quality metals inside it.

Next was to forge the weapon. His choice was the Falcata. A weapon of Spanish origin, which Jason found very cool looking. Another thing Jason researched was blacksmithing techniques. He learned about folding. It might not really help, but it was worth trying, he supposed. After grinding it and polishing it, he had quite the blade. A silverish glow surrounded the blade as he moved it. Next was the handle, he chose to use willow as the wood. After finishing the handle, he attached it to the sword and wrapped it in the leather he made from the fox hide. He was done! His first real weapon he actually put a lot of effort into.
