He saw himself surrounded by metal walls, a blinking Crystal Blue interface which was the color the system chose for him appearing right in front of his face, he was alone.

He gulped, his face was deathly pale, he wasn’t the heroic type, but killing people was a bit too much for him “If this is a dream or a coma it wouldn’t matter, but... if this is real though... Well…
[Flashback chain warning]
6 years old and bright, he was playing with a bug in the garden, when suddenly a bird snatched it and ate it, it was his first meeting with grief, no one cared that the bug died, and Luke cried alone
7 years old, he had his first friend outside the group, he made that friend in school, he was as rich as him, so they got along well as they knew they weren’t after money, they were going to travel in an airplane, he was so happy, but when he got to his friend’s house, he found the house on fire, apparently the whole family had been assassinated by a rival family on the business, no one cared, Luke cried alone
“hey Luke!” Luke then stared at the young girl of about his age, his eyes already lacking the life a 12 year old should have, barely 12 and already feeling like the world wasn’t right… Then he answered “What is it Bea?” to which the very honest and impulsive girl answered “My mother keeps insisting, and she said it is useless to want to be just your friend.” to which he replied “do you even like to be my friend?” to which she answered “of course! I wouldn’t have told you of my mother’s plans otherwise.” but Luke had already seen that face throughout his entire life, there was some reluctance to that yes, though it is the first time he saw even a hint of truth, so he smiled genuinely in what felt like years, so he said “let your mother think that I really like you that way then, that way she won’t bother you and we can keep being friends” she nodded and left with her mother. The next day he was waiting for Bea’s visit excitedly, but she never came back, a few weeks later after crying in his home alone for a week while trying to bury his sadness in ice cream he discovered something horrible, a lightning had hit them while they took a photo under a tree on their way to his house, they both died instantly, no one came to help him, he cried alone.
Luke was 15, he had finally joined a club of people his age, it was a club of TTRPG, he had participated in one session already, and the next session they were going to a park, they offered for him to go with them in a van, but he said he would go in a bit, he was playing a game online and he needed just a few minutes, e would bring ice cream to compensate for the 7 minutes he would be late, when he got there, no one was there, a lamppost had fallen on the van, no one survived, no one cared… luke cried alone.
17 years old, birthday… no one came until late at night, his sister appeared, she seemed tired, but didn’t explain saying it was company business, it was ok for Luke, she had always been so nice with him, he would do anything to keep his sister happy, but later that night, he cried, cried alone, no one other than his sister came, more than 100 people had confirmed they would come, he had donated money, helped people, he had tried to make friends, his whole life he tried, nothing ever worked, every friend he made died, every group he joined either broke apart or suffered an accident, he was always alone, rich and bored, only games made him happy, his friends online never died, and then suddenly everyone went from treating him as a good person they wanted to suck money off to a leech of society and a disgrace, hated and forgotten, no one cared when he cried alone, he didn’t need to care for them either then right? Of course not, his best friend from when he was young once said “Luke, it doesn’t matter if people don’t like you, if you can make them smile you can be happy, because even if everyone says that they hate you, that is because they can’t admit they do like you!” that always stuck to his heart somewhat, he wouldn’t take revenge on everyone just because they treated him badly, but after so many years he wouldn’t go out of his way to help someone.
[Flashback chain ended]
It’s to kill or to be killed right? I am no hero, I don’t have grand aspirations, but I won’t die when my life just started for real” he started panicking and started trying to wake himself and sure enough, he could feel pain, he meditated for a minute to calm himself, got up and asked “Status” which worked, much to his panic, confirming he didn’t just get abducted, not that a small amount of panic mattered much in face of the despair of knowing what he’d have to do to survive, he finally felt like the world was right, like it was real.

“How do I upgrade my skills?” there was no answer, then he remembered that the system would answer his questions after the tutorial, he paid closer attention to his surroundings, he was in a closed room made of gray metal, it had one exit, he waited for any starting equipment, and then tried to remember where he saw it before, failing miserably so, he then said “Collect” nothing happened, he tried again “Starting equipment” once again the same result, he had an idea and asked “Inventory!” nothing, except a noise coming from the corridor as he screamed a bit too loud “well, shit.” then he saw it, a terrifying, absolutely nightmarish monster, it was a, a, a... Hat {Possessed clothing lvl1}, in fact, too familiar, this was the top hat he saw falling from a guy’s head while he slept on the plane, it shouldn’t be that hard, he mentally prepared himself, closed his eyes to do so, and as he thought of emptying his mind to think on the best course of action, he felt a sharp pain on his leg, he opened his eye with tears in its corners from what felt like a huge papercut 10 times worse and screamed, figures pain tolerance wasn’t his greatest skill, he kicked as fast as he could, the hat flew to the wall and its name was now red, thing is, Luke was now at 1HP, he thought about how he was going to die to a piece of clothing and how HP was such a stupid stat when applied to real life until he saw the line aiming towards his leg and lifted his leg as fast as he could, the hat dashed straight in the line, and Luke then stomped, more on instinct than anything else, ending the hat’s life, or unlife, no idea honestly, but it was dead now, confirmed by the hat’s tag vanishing in light and a level up pop up appearing on his face

Now should be the time when a legendary item appears, and he would be ready to easily clean the place, but he knew that was not going to happen, instead, he smiled with tears in his eyes as he put the hat on his head, without analyzing first, obviously the best idea he had so far, which was accentuated by the new pop up, he didn’t see it yet, ignoring it, he didn’t know if he cried or laughed, everything was finally right, he was in pain but it was drowned by a complicated emotion of hurt in his chest, he thought of everything he passed by on his life, everyone he had to cry for and remember silently, he knew he had to kill, so he prepared himself mentally, then he looked at the pop up, the voice of his uncle accompanying his reading speed like the other times he read the pop ups

‘Exactly what I needed, take double damage from a new form of enemy, even if the mana bonus is good he walked out of the corridor clearly in a bad mood, still consumed by a huge set of emotions, at which point he saw 7 red lines aiming at different parts of his body, as 7 pieces of clothing came flying at him, and almost on pure gamer instinct from years of VR games he dodged the lines, getting grazed by a shoe in the face and taking 4 damage, unlike the hat which had cut him, this time he clearly felt the impact of the attack hitting his soul and it hurt, he felt a heavy thump in his chest as his weak human instincts tried to help him, he punched the shoe, way faster than he thought he would, the speed increase due to the hat having made a huge difference, which immediately killed the shoe, he then turned almost instantly kicking 2 pieces of clothing and one hit killing them as well, he punched a t-shirt that missed him, and a few short moments and attacks later, he had rid himself of the pieces of clothing, he was panting, his heart and lungs were aching from his conditions, to the point he thought he’d die but didn’t, he shouldn’t be as tired as he was even with his conditions, thankfully he knew how to act under that sort of thing from years of experience, but he knew that was probably his only skill at work, he discovered that stamina and mana regenerate 1% a minute with hp regenerating completely in 2 minutes for an average of 50% per minute, or maybe it was 3 HP per minute, he didn’t know yet, doing his smartest decision yet he decided to take the dead clothing with him, this time he didn’t wear it normally, instead he made a belt out of them, with the shoes dangling in the sides, tied to the belt, with that, a slow and painful ambushing process began as every lvl 1 monster giving about 1 xp, due to their weak nature, the corridors were made of that same grey metal, one cargo light per corridor, and they flickered and some times even went out completely for minutes, some times there were also compartments with nothing inside, and so he understood, he was in the cargo part of the plane, a few hours later...

He couldn’t sleep due to the hat, and he had gained a few small cut scars mainly on his arms and legs, but on the bright side, he was able to choose one of the names he wanted, for something called the world ladder, there were three ladders actually, the fighting prowess ladder, the level ladder and one that was still blank and with no names, but the fighting prowess ladder was grayed out as if blocked when he tried to choose it nothing happened either so he just kept staring at the level ladder.

‘What kind of monster is Thunder, and how is he lvl7 already, everything started like what, 5 hours at most?!’ he was mumbling and walking when he found a chest, which completely put a wrench inside his thought process, making him forget completely about Thunder, with an excited face, he opened it and inside he found a staff, plain wooden staff, it was an (F) item as expected, it was simply a wooden staff, with no properties but that was okay, this wouldn’t hurt, the furthest from his body the better right? He then had an idea, he started marking the ways he went by using the clothing he killed, that until he realized that most of his time here was spent walking in circles as the area wasn’t that big, which was not bad for grinding, but meant he would never get out this way, so he went back to the starting room and saw that there was still only one way out, the corridors he had already been walking on, so he had an idea based on his gaming experience, he needed to kill more, so he rushed all over like a maniac bonking enemies with the staff, he got better at using it really quick too, spinning and leaning on it to dodge and hit enemies, he didn’t know why but while the staff felt natural it felt like something was lacking too, but he kept using it, way better than getting hurt still, until one time something happened as he killed another shivering and desperately fleeing pair of glasses that had just seen 10 of its kind slaughtered mercilessly, now Luke didn’t even rely on his for killing possessed clothing anymore, them being easily predictable
-Kill lvl 1 hostiles(256/1024)
A rumble shook the walls, and he rushed back and much to his happiness the corridor was open, except this was substituted by a terror expression as he saw an old man appearing, he had a sword, and was also level 1, {Harris Alexander lvl 1}, who immediately knew who he was due to some sort of identifying skill that for Luke felt like someone was prying on his soul, which made him feel vulnerable, the old man, after knowing who he was, put on a brave face and was distracted for a second when he tried to shout for help when a thrust to the head with the staff hit the old man, who recovered fast enough to scream “The Villain is he-!” two quick hits on the head made him pass out, and as he saw the old man’s chest stop beating he was at the same time paralyzed and trembling unceasingly, his extra speed added to the little strength he had gained making it just a bit too much trauma for the old man, his eyes were wide and hands firmly clutching the staff, he had killed someone, the old man’s eyes staring accusingly at him while blood left his head at the point where Luke had hit him, he really did it, the old man died with a pained expression, and all that he received for it was 1/3rd of the old man’s xp and a sword, a life ended just like that.
Warning, if you don’t personally kill at least 100 of the initiates you will die instantly, killing the initiates is the only obligatory part of the quest

That shook him out of his paralysis as he took the old man’s sword, strapped the staff to his own back with possessed clothing and ran with tears in his eyes, why was the system forcing him to do this, he thought he would like this new life, that he could finally be happy, what did he do to deserve it? Luke didn’t know but he really didn’t want to die, he saw a flash of pinkish white and the sword flashed, he heard a clearly high pitched childish scream and a pop up, Luke caught a glimpse of her face, but he didn’t stay to look, otherwise he probably would give up on his life, something he had fought against indomitably his whole life. Whenever he saw someone he immediately attacked and didn’t look back, every life claimed had their own dreams, family, emotions, expressions, and he knew their accusing faces, sometimes angry and sometimes sad or fearful, would haunt him for the rest of his days, the surprise being enough to take out three people before a man with a bow missed him due to the fright, Luke was too fast for what he looked like allowing him to use his ability on arrows now, deflecting all the other arrows with the sword before he drove the sword through the man’s eye, immediately killing him, right before his death the middle aged man managed to scream “wait! I have famil-!” the man’s eyes were wide, he took the cape the man was wearing, taking care not to look at the man’s face and proceeded, his heartbeat very fast and body trembling, he wouldn’t die now, his life wouldn’t end, even if others had for that, not when he just started living for real.
