As he kept looking at the weird ice cream cone, it seemed like the elementals were too busy fighting to pay attention to the weird interaction, Lis then said “very weird but I’m a ghost so not the weirdest thing I’ve seen today or any of the recent days for that matter” Luke recovered his senses and said “uhh, why didn’t you talk to us before?” to which the monster replied “quest…” now with a trembling but humanlike voice, both human and ghost sighed and Luke said “I see, do you have a name?” to which the monster answered “Vanilla” and Luke thought “I guess it fits” but he said “I am Luke and she is Lis” to which Lis answered “that name is for friends” to which Luke answered “which we will be soon enough so just call her Lis, so tell me Vanilla, what are you?” to which Vanilla replied “Male…?” and Luke answered “No, not that, like, how did you come to be?” Vanilla became thoughtful and didn’t say anything, Luke respected his thinking time but said “Either way we have to get stronger if we want to leave this place, if you remember tell me, but follow us and…” he was interrupted by a prompt

Vanilla told them news that wasn't news for Lis but definitely was for Luke once they asked about the insane number of skills Van had “uh… I made all those skills…” to which Lis said “Wow, you must be really good with your manipulation magic.” and Luke asked, already sad and expecting a yes “Is it based on luck? if you get those once you meet the qualifications do you still have to be subject to luck?” and Van replied “No… you only have to reach the qualifications…” Van’s expression of his voice always seemed to be a bit sad, but he was extremely knowledgeable about the system, and genuinely seemed to like the idea of having friends, he explained that all the other intelligent monsters he found tried to kill him, so he had to kill them first, and that he liked to talk and not be hunted, to which the human and former human agreed wholeheartedly, as they absolutely demolished the elemental floor, they got to talk about earth to Van that said “It’s incredible. Your world will probably lead this planet as uncommon and rare classes are based on mythology and achievements and your world had a lot of it, Luke probably is one of the favorites of the system in this planet because of the sheer number of people that saw his exploits in that game and started to fear his… nickname. When he chose the same nickname the system understood that he was feared in the past and liked it, and wanted to try and help him reach his former glory, it saw the effort you put into it at the time too, if you keep doing what you want and survive, the system will aid you, seeing it as a change of pace and mind from someone with potential. Oops, talked too much…” to which Luke answered “No! I mean, to talking too much, like, you talked about important things that are good to know, so that’s always welcomed” and Lis nodded. The last elemental didn’t even have a chance as it fired a ceramic ball, the ball and elemental were destroyed by a purple bolt from Lis.

“Hmm, not quite what I thought a Dao was…” Lis and Van immediately looked around as if something happened, and when Van scrutinized Luke a bit he said “That is not possible… B-But I thought… How could you do…?” Luke just waved the concerns away and asked “Is the Dao the same from what we came to expect on earth?” and after some context on the matter Van said “Not at all, it would be more apt to call these we have great concepts, something remarcably close to what you described was the dao before even the system was here, but that is not the case anymore, as now you can actively manipulate the world with it as you get stronger… But how cou-” to which Luke just interrupted “Don’t bother, I have no idea myself…” Luke then sighed again “I guess we can take a few days of rest, we don’t need to be in such a hurry, especially now we’ve finished this floor and only have the bosses to fight, we should get to talking more and less useless comparing or thinking, all of them were indeed tired so they agreed, they went to sleep at one of the edges of the place, far from the staircase, Van sleeping the least so he was usually the one talking to Luke or Lis when they changed shifts.

“Tell me how it felt then, I’m curious, how did it feel for you to know you were alone?” Van said to Luke, Lis’s tophat on his head as Luke answered “I didn’t really register most of it and to be honest I still didn’t, I’m very good at holding back emotions but I know I will truly have to face everything I did when this is over, for now, except when I’m in pain, I temporarily convince myself this is a game, so not as much as lonely as I should, also… I have been alone for a long time already…” Luke was having a bad time, but all that he spoke of to Van just now was truth, he really was consciously pushing everything in, and despite everyone he killed or all the things he did, he still was managing, and to be honest it was easier than pushing in grief, as he thought of that he also thought of how he liked having friends and how this time, he wouldn’t let anyone take them, if the heavens took them, he would either take them back, or break the heavens to such a point that it could never do it again, the same applying to anyone that killed them.

He smiled, understanding what Van had said in another talk about the system just not caring about morals or how it didn’t think any power was good or evil, Van then said “I don’t know…” and Luke was confused for a second, but Van clarified “I don’t know how I came to be, at one point I wasn’t and then I just was, I subconsciously knew a lot about the system but that’s about it” Luke then asked “how does mana work?” and Van felt better, not seeing any negative reaction from Luke, as he answered “Mana is xp stored in you, but that can’t be used to advance, both being something known as cultivation energy or just cosmic energy, which are reverberations of some ancient energy that clashed against the dao as both dispersed, ultimately the dao still whispers while that energy doesn’t which means the dao probably won, even if it got fragmented and diluted” Luke understood all those things wouldn’t change anything but also that in turn the dao probably affected mana, and as he pictured his dao of dreams in his mind, he pictured ever changing worlds, full of things that don’t exist in reality but do inside the infinite possibilities of the dreams, and once again, Luke broke a few unspoken laws he didn't know of

He smiled, he knew that checking his stats would be useless now as the change probably wouldn’t affect him much, but his memory was already amazing at this point as he pictured one of these realities, where a different version of him pulled an invisible string in the air and made a sound in the air, he put his hand in the air and tried to do the same, trying to channel his dao to his hand and succeeding in doing so, as he plucked an invisible strand of air a musical note resounded in the floor, he started mimicking the dream until he was synchronized with it, a melody started resounding across the floor, like a song from a movie about the past, it was a song of reminiscence, Luke didn’t know what it was about, but once he finished he found Van and Lis to be looking at the air, Van was confused, and Lis was clearly distracted, and once it ended, Luke lost that tangible connection to the dao of dreams and couldn’t replicate it even as he tried, this time only pulling mana from the air, Lis and Van seemed to stare at him like they wanted more, but his face told them what they needed to know and Lis said “I think we should go, no point in staying, and whatever you did made me miss my sister, so let’s go."
