Into the New World-Chapter 3
---
Jameed went down the steps with haste and saw Kristen awake. "Huh, you aren't sleeping for once."
"Yeah yeah, You came back with the food?"
"Yup! I also have some pretty interesting stuff to tell you." Jameed put his bag down.
"For real? Throw them at me."
Jameed pulls something out of his bag. It is a wrapped-up box. Kristen narrows his eyes.
"It's a GADGET!" Jameed rejoices. "That's one down, we only need one more to enter the new world."
Kristen stands up and walks towards Jameed to take a look. "Nice, how did you find this, anyway?" Kristen holds the gadget, intrigued.
"I found it in the supply drop. We got very lucky it seems." Jameed sits down and sighs. "I'm tired. You had your sleep, Kristen. Mind watching out for a bit?"
"Fine."
Jameed pulls out his sleeping bag and tucks himself in, falling into a dream.
"shoot, I forgot to tell him about Ashlyn. Oh well, I'll tell him later after he wakes up. " Kristen throws away his Twinkie wrapper, and sits in the corner next to Jameed, looking at the gadget he brought back. "Was Jameed really that fortunate? Finding a gadget in a supply drop, I never heard of that. Interesting, What should I do now?" Kristen ponders heavily over the situation, trying to find a solution to their new predicament.
---
"When is Ashlyn coming back?" a person walks into a room and sits down on a couch.
Another person is reading a book. "She should be here by now."
"She's late. That's unusual."
"Yeah, that's pretty unusual. Hey can you get out of the corner and hop off whatever you are doing?" the person on the couch complained.
"Aii aii captain." the person in the corner rolled their eyes.
"And don't roll your eyes."
The person who was reading a book put it down. "let's not have any animosity right now. Ashlyn hasn't been answering us. It's been a while already."
Ring! Ring! A phone rang. The person sitting on the couch pulled it out and took a look. "Well look who finally answered."
The 2 others in the room took a stop and watched the situation intrigued.
The person on the couch accepted the call. "Hey Ashlyn, mind telling me what happened?"
"I'm arriving soon, I'll tell you everything. Also, tell Geo he better get ready."
The person in the corner jumped up a bit.
The call ended. "Hey Geo, she told me to tell you to get ready. Did you do something wrong again?"
"No, Ashlyn is probably just a little cuckoo right now." Geo got up and walked out of the corner and to the table.
The person who had a book spoke up. "Hey, Big J, what's the next move after Ashlyn comes back?"
Big J got off the couch and stretched. "I want to figure out the situation Ashlyn was in first. After we can meet up with Lynx's team to prepare for AirOut." Big J walked over to the table. "By the way, what book are you reading now Braylee?"
Braylee picked up the book and showed him. "Oh yeah, I picked it out on our last trip, the name is A Dreamers Flight. It's pretty good."
Big J took a seat. "Tell me about it."
---
Ashlyn finally arrived at the base. It was a rather moderate building that looked abandoned. She walked in and took a couple of turns until she came into a big room. The room was built with concrete, but although haven't been touched for many years, it looks rather new. "HELLO, I'M HERE NOW. OPEN THE DOOR," she shouted. Ashlyn waited. And waited. And waited. The door opened. A rather tall woman was there.
"Oh hello Ashlyn! You are finally back! We were worried about you."
"Hey Braylee!!" Ashlyn hugged her. "Yeah, I came through complications throughout the trip. I got the supplies though." She showed her bag to Braylee.
"That's awesome Ashlyn! Come on in!" She pushed the door back and made way for Ashlyn. Ashlyn walked in and immediately went to the table to drop off some stuff. She noticed Big J reading a book, looking thoroughly interested. "Hey Captain, I'm back." Big J looked up at her.
"Glad to see you back. By the way, Geo isn't here, he just left."
If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Ashlyn looked at him gaping. "That son of a b****! I swear I'm going to find him."
"Hey hey, let's get through the explanation first now shall we? Sit down."
Ashlyn grumbled. "Alright fine. Let's get this over with." Braylee came over to the table and joined in bringing drinks and food.
---
Kristen was walking down the street taking in some air. "Jameed and I have been in this city for a long while. Pretty much ever since doomsday has passed. We have lived through thick and thin in this city and came across a few people, but honestly not much has changed for us. I'm glad for that though." Kristen jumps over rocks and enters an old park. The lake has pretty much dried up and no life is generally existent in the area that is known of. While walking through the park, Kristen asks himself a bunch of questions and starts to think. "I've always wondered, what is in the new world? Is it a promised paradise as that guy said? I wonder how are my siblings doing in there. Is it time to take action to enter the new world? Where can we even get another gadget around here?" Kristen started to stress himself a little. "Man, I'm tired. I need some more sleep. Might as well get back to the subway. Hopefully Jameed is up now so I can tell him about Ashlyn."
---
Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump. Continuous steps going forward. They don't stop.
Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump. The steps start to go downwards.
Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud. The steps stop. A pair of boots are shined on. The steps continue, going forward again.
Thump. Thump. Thump. A turn is taken. Thump. Thump. Thump. Another turn is taken. The steps get faster.
Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump. The steps stop abruptly. "Boss, I found him."
"Do as you are told."
"Yes Boss."
The Person gets closer. And closer. And closer. Too close. The person identifies. The person backs up. "Not the one we are looking for Boss."
"Is it the other one?"
"Yes sir."
"Second-Course Operation."
The person understands the message. The person pulls out something. It looks like a cube-shaped invention. The person goes up to the victim and completes their mission.
The person starts to walk back. Thump. Thump. Thump.
The Steps fade out.
Silence.
---
Kristen arrives back at the subway. "Is Jameed still asleep? Unusual, I'll go wake him up. I need to talk to him about Ashlyn and our plan moving forward."
Kristen walks down the steps into the station and goes into the room where they settled in. To his surprise, Jameed wasn't there. "did he go to the bathroom or something?" Kristen wondered. He decided to go get some food. There was none. All the stuff was gone and nothing was left. "What the hell happened?" Kristen thought. He looked around even further and went to all the other rooms in the station. Nothing.
Kristen was confused. "HEY JAMEED, WHERE ARE YOU?" He shouted. No reply. Kristen was more confused now. He started to look around the area thoroughly.
Kristen came across a phone. He grabbed it and it turned on immediately. "Huh? What's this?" A message was displayed on the screen.
DON'T TELL ANYONE. YOU ARE ALONE.
-SIGN WAIVER TO CONTINUE
-DECLINE
Now Kristen was VERY confused. "Should I sign the waiver? No, I don't trust this. I'll decline." The screen blacks out, and then a list of instructions takes place on the black screen.
Arrive at the Warehouse of Garle for your next mission.
"The Warehouse of Garle? That's like the next city! what the hell?" Kristen was getting annoyed now. He decided to turn off the phone and pocket it for now. "I need to find Jameed ASAP. Why would he leave anyway? Did he even leave himself? what kind of sick prank is this?" Jameed walked out of the room and looked around again. "I'm gonna need food and water soon as well for measures." The phone rings. Jameed looks at it.
-Food/Water 0.8 miles away.
"That's… convenient. I don't trust it." Kristen thought. "Ok let me sort out the options right here. Either Jameed left me and decided to play a sick joke, or something else is going on around here. Probably the second, Jameed isn't the type to play these types of jokes. What should I do now? I'll wait for a bit, I need sleep anyway, I'm tired. Jameed hopefully will return by then." Kristen looks around. "shoot. I don't have my sleeping bag. You know what, screw it. I'm too tired for this." Kristen walks into the room and finds a corner. He lies down on the cold floor. "Alright, I pray everything goes right."
Kristen is knocked out on the floor sleeping, unaware of what happened to Jameed, and unaware of the situation at hand.
The night falls onto the city.
