One who chose the sword shall live by the sword till the end and one who chose magic shall live by the magic is what people used to believe since ancient times. The ceremony was supposed to be a demonstration of determination, even if it meant to sacrificing other desires for what they truly desired. It was a test of will power of disciples but their masters.

But now it exists add a common tradition among the rich and poor, kings and slaves alike to do the future of a newborn. Some communities adapted it to their needs. Some substituted the items with bows, hammers, compass, gold and even alcohol.

Though it is a superstition but there have been many instances of some newborns immediately running for a sword or a book who would turn out to become powerful men in what they chose. And instances of some grabbing both also existed as legends. One such was believed to be King Arthur who was blessed by both swords and magic who went on to conquer the entire continent. He was said to posses the prowess to cut mountain in half and call out cyclones. The empire crumbled under it's own weight after his death though.

It is only human nature to want it. People strive their whole lives to achieve it. But only a few succeed.

"Once we remove the 'I'; our ego and the 'desire' from the picture what we are left with is Knowledge and power."

This is a saying by Rishi Vashista, one of the seven Rishis. By letting behind all the materialistic desires, he is believed to have ascended to godhood.

According to the folklore when he was to choose from a sword and a book as an infant, he simply left the circle leaving behind the book and the sword. Symbolizing the freedom from his desires and rise to godhood.

But not all is determined by the ceremony. They are plenty of examples. One of such is that of Gautam Buddha who had chosen the way of sword but in the future, freed himself from shackles of materialistic desires that were holding him down and achieved 'Enlightenment' ,the ultimate wisdom.

Another was Arnold Craft who had chosen book during the ceremony but trained days and nights to get godlike physical prowess such as being able to topple down an entire Mountain with a single punch.

At the time , Cain's parents were surprised by what had happened but overlooked the ceremony and brushed it off as somewhat rare occurrence. Some unusual occurrences happened all the time and many would be instances would be unknown to others.

What happened on Cain's ceremony was indeed not common but it was not just rare.

It was one of a kind.

A/N: All references are fictional . (i.e total BS so don't take it seriously.).

This is sort of an auxiliary chapter but because it's related to the ceremony. I decided to put it in the main volume anyway.
