The kaiju held their breath in unison, marveling at the mutant and awaiting its speech as if it were the most crucial thing in their world. In preparation, the colony gathered tight together, squeezing forward to hear every word the mutant had to say. Discovering that they were not the only apex predators within the lands had spurred a deep curiosity, leaving a burning desire to know about the origin of the mutants and how the elder council members knew the mutant before them. After waiting what felt like a lifetime, the mutant spoke, beginning to recant the story of its kind, and as it did, the crowd became captivated by its voice.
It started by telling the community the origin of the mutants, which to their surprise, was similar to the origin stories they had been told themselves. The species was broken into warring factions in the early days of the kaiju legacy. The beasts were more primal and refused to come together under the same banner. Each group felt they were the most qualified to be the leaders of the species, discounting anything the other colonies may say. Wars raged for generations over the disagreement. Slowly, some of the factions banded together, understanding that they could be stronger together than apart. As the groups banded together, they would take a single leader from each group and elect them as head of the new colony, creating a group of representatives from each of the factions representing the ideals of the old coalition they came from.
Continuing, the mutant revealed that it came from the last group to join the alliance. Their faction was the most primal and destructive of them all. They were predisposed to malicious acts of violence toward anything that came near them, even fighting and killing clan members over minor communal disputes. They were the largest of the kaiju, and because of that, believing that they should be the supreme rulers over the species, embodying the destructive kaiju spirit.
The rest of the colonies did not agree with their thinking, wishing to move toward a more peaceful society, and refused the entry of a representative into their alliance. The collective sought peace among the species, looking outward into the world to release their violent tendencies more constructively. The remaining faction felt they should be able to settle their differences however best suited them at the time.
This conflict between the alliance and the mutant’s faction continued for years, and with it, the civil war raged on. The alliance had the number advantage to fight the faction. However, the faction members were much larger kaiju, giving them a physical edge in combat. As the years went on, the faction developed a chemical stimulant to assist them in battles, evening the tides against the mounting number of kaiju warriors within the alliance. The serum they made would enrage them for short periods, building on their primal instincts and turning them into monsters of enormous power. Once the serum had been refined, the faction warriors were nearly unstoppable. A group of ten enraged warriors would be enough to fight an entire army, leaving the alliance with more casualties than before. The alliance knew that if the war continued for much longer, the faction would be victorious, leaving them with no choice but to bargain with the leaders. The negotiations were long and drawn out, enflaming into minor conflicts that nearly cost one of the alliance council members their life at one point.

After a few weeks of daily meetings, the groups had tentatively agreed. The alliance would allow the appointing of two leaders from the faction, giving them majority voting power within the council. In exchange for control of the council, the faction would provide the alliance with the formula for the battle serum and training for the warriors of the alliance. With the agreement in place among the leaders, all that was left to do was inform the colonies of the union and move the faction members into the now unified colony territory. The alliance was thrilled with the settlement, knowing the faction’s warriors would be an asset.
On the other hand, the faction was not pleased with the arrangement. They knew they were winning the war; if the leaders had held out a little longer, they could have control of the entire species. Begrudgingly and at the request of the faction leaders, the community accepted their new designation. Not long after all members agreed, the faction removed their border guards and slowly began integrating into the alliance.
Being integrated into the alliance did not mean the faction would live amongst the others. They vowed to live on the fringes of their new society, abiding by only the most basic communal laws, otherwise remaining as they were before the agreement. They would train the colony warriors as agreed, but after training was complete, they would return to their homes on the territory's borders. Soon after, they were branded “the unwanted ones,” never entirely being accepted by society nor wanting to be.
After being united and with the civil war over, the kaiju species began to flourish, expanding its territory throughout most of the southern jungle, using the unwanted ones as an unsanctioned border guard. The colony decided that if they continued to refuse to live among the rest of the kaiju, they would use them as security to protect the ever-expanding territory from potential invaders. As the colony expanded, the humans of the kaijuverse began to take notice of their uprising. Fearful of the implications a rapidly growing empire could bring to humanity, they developed countermeasures to ensure they could combat the beasts when they would inevitably come for their lands.
Years passed, and finally, the inevitable happened. The humans, expanding their territory, had encroached too close to the kaiju border. The council members of each faction gathered, discussing what could be done about the humans and their expansive lifestyle. A vote was held amongst the leaders. Some wished to live in peace with the humans, using fear and aggressive demonstrations to scare them away from their borders. Other members wanted to ignore the humans, hoping they would go away on their own, not having to interact with them. The vote arrived at the old faction leaders, and the rest of the council worried. They held a majority vote in all matters, and it would ultimately be their decision that society must abide by. The faction leaders knew they had all the power, and without hesitating, they decided in unison. The kaiju would go to war with the humans.
