Chapter 5: Onward into Childhood.

It has been 7 Years since Tia and Miia were dumped into this world and were currently leading an uneventful life. They were not allowed to leave the house, which turned out, was a decent sized one. It was a 2-story small mansion that sat atop a small hill on the north edge of the small village they lived in. Tia assumed her family were well off but was shocked to find that her family was just barely above the average commoner due to her father and mother being adventurers, and the only reason they had such a large house despite this was Roland inherited it from his father.

She had also found out that her mother was quite a magician and healer. Taking up work at the village’s guild as a healer, patching up wounded adventurers’ money. She was also more powerful than her father when it came to magic, but she was nowhere near as strong physically. Honestly compared to the average person, her parents where both top adventurers. Shed tried asking for their rank once but was only met with an awkward laugh from her father and silence from her mother, checking for favoritism between the two also yielded more results, they denied both Tia and Miia and answer.

Another great frustration was, despite them being so strong, they had refused to train them in their respective skills. Saying they were too young and shouldn’t worry about it. “But that is going to change! Starting today!” Tia shouted in her room, raising her fist into the air before facing her light green haired sister “And do you know why? Sister?” She asked, her sister staring at her with half closed eyes. One disadvantage of constantly being on guard for so many years, was a set personality had been set between the two.

Tia to her parents was the more hyper and active one, a tomboy that kept her light green hair short unlike her sister who let it grow out, refused to wear anything that would limit her movements and was very expressive. Miia on the other hand was meek, silent most of the time and constantly glued to her sister’s side. She also gave off the feeling she was always tired and disinterested in everything around her, minus magic, which she constantly bugged her mother and father to teach her.

“No sister, why?” Miia spoke. Tia smirked, waving her finger “Because today I have a plan. A simply plan” Tia spoke “And what plan is that?” “Simple, we are going to leave the house and show them we are ready!” Tia said, striking a pose with her hands on her hips “But they won’t let us? We have tried before but… “Miia sighed, falling back onto her bed “Ah, naïve sister. This time we won’t ask! And will just go.” Tia laughed. Miia shot up “But what if we get hurt? Or worse.”

“I Am tired of being stuck in this house and talking to myself all day!” Tia yelled, stomping her feet while Miia just sighed “But it’s risky, what if we get into trouble and need help?” “our stats have changed from growing up, We have even been practicing your magic at home.” Tia pointed to Miia, who raised her hand with an open palm, magic gathered and wind started to swirl around it “It hasn’t leveled at all… its still level 1” Miia stated “But it should be enough… and I can imbued my fists with wind, I lack the magic skill but It should do something” Tia then glanced towards the window “I am just tired of being caged up here…” She said, then summoned her and Miia’s stats.

Nothing changed skill wise,Tia had all the physical power and Miia had all the magic, and their stats reflected it. One change that did happen in the few years was that split soul did level up. [Split Soul: Level 3. complete Mastery of independent body movement and speech] Which was a huge help that she wish came sooner. “And these are just the base stats, I wonder what a Level up is like.” She mused before turning to her sister “with me as the vanguard and you in the back casting spells, we can last long enough to at least prove they can’t keep us cooped up here” Tia said, heading to the window, still seeing the sun in the sky.

Miia stood up “I really don’t have a choice, do i?” she said, prompting both to giggle “”No”” they both said in unison. As Miia came towards the window Tia glanced at her “….” She stared silently for a moment, this back and forth she just had was a common thing by now, if she was a regular child and Miia was her twin, not just a doll controlled by herself, perhaps they could have lasted longer cooped up in the house, but it really just was her in here, alone.

Miia propped herself up on the window and looked down at the 1 story drop, gulping she held out her hand, causing magic to swirl before she released it. The ball of wind flying towards the ground and expanding, creating a cushion of air that Miia landed on. “yes!” Tia cheered, following after Miia and landing on the wind, that popped shortly after Tia bounced off it.

After a quick check around themselves, they both faced each other and nodded, then began heading away from the house and down the hill. After reaching the bottom of the hill they found themselves facing a brick wall that they quickly climbed over after giving themselves a boost with wind magic and after they both landed on the opposite side, they both breathed in deeply, feeling satisfied and taking it all in. “Finally.” Though not out of the woods yet, so to speak, they had managed to leave the grounds of their house and enter the village.

“Ok, onward!” Tia said, grabbing her sisters’ hand as they moved threw an alleyway between two wooden houses, crossing an empty path and another ally they met a wooden fence that were taller than their heads. A quick climb over that and they were now face to face with the forest that surrounded the north side of town. A quick nod to each other and they were once again moving deeper into the forest.

Back at the mansion Marcy was preparing lunch, chopping vegetables and putting them into a pot. Humming a simple tune as she cooked she gave a short sigh, her daughters have been troubling her lately. They had been showing more and more interest in magic and combat, something she feared since they were babies and were so interested in her husband’s constant show of strength, which she could not blame them as his dashing figure came to mind. She shook her head, getting herself back on track.

She could also understand their frustrations being cooped up, but she could not help that. Certain circumstances aside the kids had to remain hidden until they were older and in the clear, she thought about teaching them magic, but Roland was against it. “If they knew how to they might try and go out” Roland’s words echoed in her head, cursing that they couldn’t even go outside due to the house being on a hill and the yard visible. “at least till they are older…” she sighed, cursing that man under her breath.

“If he catches wind of the children…” she shook her head and went back to cooking “not going to happen, we made it this far, we can for a bit longer.” She nodded to herself then went back to cooking, summoning more water for the pot then bending down to lite the fire.

**POP**

Marcy shot up and snapped towards the entrance to the kitchen “What was that?!” she exited the kitchen and headed to the main hall “Tia! Miia! Are you alright?” she yelled. Hearing no response, she started heading upstairs. Halfway up the stairs someone knocked the door causing her to stop “…. surely if something was wrong one of them would of came to get me…” Marcy said and headed towards the door, opening it to see a familiar face. A young man “hey-o Marcy, Roland home?” Asked the man.

Marcy smiled “hello john. And no, he went out to help out the hunters, why? Is something wrong with the wife and bell?” She asked john, the man himself being a family friend and one of the few people in the village trusted enough to know about their two daughters,”ah no no. I was just coming to confirm about the play date heard the two were getting a bit crazy lately and I know we were hoping them meeting new people might help” he said, taking a quick glance around before leaning in and whispering “I have not seen anyone lately, he might of decided to give up.” Marcy smiled “Thanks john…but we cant be too sure, we will try for as long as it takes but…” Marcy said but stopped once john nodded “Yeah, at least till then, hopefully we can help pass the time, wouldn’t of been an issue if that bastard didn’t break his own tradition and get an appraisal done…” john angerly said “now he goes and bothers you to see if you have a ‘replacement’”

Marcy shook her head “nothing we can do but try and put it off till it happens.” She said, then glanced back towards the stairs and up towards her daughters’ room “…I do want the best for them” she then glanced back to John “Well, can’t have you standing out here forever, come on in.” she said, stepping aside and motioning him indoors. John waved her off “oh no, I couldn’t, the kids will see me” Marcy laughed “They are going to see you anyways when you bring Bell over, might as well see you now?”

John smiled “alright, geez.” He entered the house, scratching his head “so where are the two anyways?” Marcy closed the door behind him before heading towards the stairs “Playing in their room, ill go get them, wait there please” John nodded watching Marcy go up the stairs.

As Marcy walked towards her daughters’ room she stopped, it was too quiet. “Girls?” she picked up her pace as she went down the hall. Stopping at the door and knocking “girls, I have someone I’d like you to meet…” She waited, no response “…girls?” she knocked again before opening the door only to find it empty, the window open “…” she calmly walked over to the window and looked downwards seeing the grass blown away and traces of footsteps leading out of the house’s grounds.

Then, she screamed.
