As Axis settled into the guest room, his mind raced with the events of the day. The disappointment of being labeled "average" gnawed at him, despite the Tower Master's reassurances.
Avelie, sensing his unease, spoke up as they walked back. "Don't worry, young master. The Tower Master may seem harsh, but he truly means well. He's a good person."
Axis glanced at her, appreciating the attempt at consolation but still feeling a sting of uncertainty. "I hope you're right," he murmured.
They continued down the hallway, the soft glow of enchanted lamps casting a warm light on the stone walls. Avelie led him to a cozy guest room, furnished with a comfortable bed, a small desk, and a window that offered a view of the garden.
"Here we are," Avelie said, opening the door. "If you need anything, just let me know."
"Thank you, Avelie," Axis replied, stepping inside.
She gave him a reassuring smile. "Rest well, young master. Tomorrow is a new day."
As Axis settled into the room, he couldn't help but reflect on what Avelie had said. He hoped the Tower Master's intentions were as good as she claimed. The weight of his potential, whether average or extraordinary, felt heavy on his young shoulders.
Meanwhile, in the Tower Master's office, the conversation continued.
"Exactly. This way, he'll be more prepared for the challenges ahead and less likely to become arrogant or complacent. It's a harsh world out there, and even the greatest potential can be snuffed out if not tempered with humility and hard work."
"I see your point," the vice Tower Master conceded. "But won't he eventually find out the truth?"
"Perhaps," the Tower Master admitted. "But by then, he'll have the maturity and strength to handle it. For now, letting him believe he's like everyone else will be better for him in the long run."
The Vice Tower Master looked thoughtful. "You really care about his future, don't you?"
"I care about all my students," the Tower Master replied, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "But Axis... he has the potential to change the world. We just have to make sure he grows into it the right way."
"Wait, what if his sister, the other Tower Master, finds out you lied to him?" the vice Tower Master pointed out.
"I'm half-dead already, but I'm more afraid of his mother. Forget it, the whole family is filled with monsters," the Tower Master said with a chuckle, shaking his head.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
The vice Tower Master laughed. "True enough. Let's hope this gamble pays off."
"It will," the Tower Master said confidently. "It has to."
The vice Tower Master nodded, still somewhat uneasy but trusting in the Tower Master's judgment. "Very well. We'll proceed with caution and hope for the best."
In his room, Axis lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling. He couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to his potential than the Tower Master had let on.
"Hey, System, are you there?" he thought.
{Yes, host.}
"You know, when I first woke up, I was in so much pain I thought I was in hell," Axis reflected. "I couldn't remember anything, not the past nor the present, not even my name, not like i remember much now…"
"Then suddenly, you showed up. You treated that poison and healed my body."
{ the poison was weakened considerably before system even acted }
{It is the system's duty to assist you, host. Whether your journey is great or ordinary, I am here to support you every step of the way in any way I can.}
Axis sighed, feeling a bit more at ease. "Thanks, System. I always feel like I don't belong here, in that family."
{Why do you say that?}
"They seem to look at me as if they know me and at the same time it seems they don't know me at all," Axis said, his thoughts swirling. "Just what if... what if I am not the one they are all familiar with? What if I am just someone who possessed this body?"
{Host, given your circumstances, your doubts are understandable. }
{But remember, the vision indicated that you and the original owner of the body are one and the same. }
{ Your essence and their essence are one singular entity.}
"Even though he said in the vision that we are one, I don't know what to trust, who to trust, and who not to trust," Axis admitted, his voice tinged with frustration.
{Trust is something that must be built over time, host. Start by trusting yourself and your own instincts. }
{ I am here to help guide you, but ultimately, you must find your own path.}
Axis took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing thoughts. "You're right. I need to take this one step at a time. But it's hard not knowing who I really am or where I truly belong."
{Your journey is just beginning, host. Answers will come in time, just need to be patient.}
{ For now, focus on honing your skills and understanding your own potential. }
{Everything else will fall into place.}
"Thank you, System," Axis said, feeling a bit more reassured. "I guess I just need to be patient and keep moving forward."
{Indeed, host. Rest well.}
With that reassurance, Axis closed his eyes, letting the fatigue of the day wash over him.
' now that i think about it the younger Axis said to find the place that we went to to find more answers to the questions i seek and he told me to do something but as if something interfered with what he was saying i couldn't hear him'
' no use thinking about it now let's try to find it after i go back to the mansion '
As he closed his eyes he remembered all the things that happened today, some memorable, some questions , and some clues that he couldn't help but feel are like pieces of puzzles and will somehow come together at the end.
But for now he should focus on the present.
