Chapter 33, That was Easy

Chapter 33, That was Easy

(Day 166) Aprilis 11th, 12th year of the Dragon, Age of Enlightenment

“Adam, you have an insanely high intelligence so this question shouldn’t stump you. What is your first class?” she asked with laughter in her voice.

Obviously, this was a test of sorts. In his Universe, his first class would be his Character level because that is the only class. Here though, he thought about it for a minute then sighed, “My first class in this Universe would be the same as my first class back home, even though they don’t call it a class. It would be my character level.”

“And because your class is ‘Character Level’ no spell to detect your class, or its level would work on you here because it doesn’t match up with any known answer that is already supplied by the ''rules” of this universe. This also means that if you want to learn one of the classes here you need to what?” she asked.

“I need to multi-class,” he said excitedly while he opened his personal interface. Zooming in on his character level he mentally chose that field and a little plus sign appeared. Pushing it mentally a new prompt opened.

You have accessed the Multi-Class Menu. Note your Primary class is not indigenous to this location and is not compatible with class leveling bonuses. You gain only 4 attributes and 1 hit point per level in your Primary Class.

Adam chose Monk.

You are now a level 0 Monk.

Adam closed the multi-class interface and directed his experience to start leveling the Monk Class. 2 Seconds later he received his first leveling prompt. He turned the prompts off. He was going to get a lot of those over the next little bit, He’d check back on them after a while.

When he closed his interface he noticed that Freya was watching him intently while she whispered. “Level 2.” Six seconds later “Level 3.” then she noticed he was once again looking at her and asked, “So Apolyn was successful?”

Of all the things she could have said, he had not been expecting that. Recovering he put a shit-eating grin on his face and said “Not exactly. If you know enough to say his name then I’ll guess you know what he was trying to do. That was the secret I mentioned earlier.”

“Oh, that was the secret you wanted me to keep,” she said. “That’s an easy enough promise to keep. I promise not to divulge any details concerning an idiot mage who cast a spell he had no business casting after killing an Angel. May that Piece of Shit rot in all of the many hells and finally when his soul seeks The Eye, may it be closed to him.” She said with a vehemence he had not witnessed before. When she finished speaking she was smiling sweetly she asked, “Now explain”

So, she didn’t like Apolyn, good to know. And he’d killed an Angel? What a douchebag! Adam took a drink of Tea, then thinking better of it he conjured two Long Island ice teas, with Ice as he said, “A drink from my home. It has a little kick, not as bad as fey wine though.” Adam picked up his drink and downed it while Freya picked her glass up, sniffed it then took a light sip. Obviously, she liked the taste because she then proceeded to drink half of it. When she set the drink back down Adam ordered the nanites to refill the glasses and started talking. “Yes, Apolyn successfully cast the spell in the Labyrinth. Then he survived for 3 more seconds until the first nuclear device detonated on my planet and vaporized him. I don’t have all the details, but it seems that a portal he stepped through led to our Universe. That Adamantium ring he enchanted survived the explosion and was found by me 50 years later in my timeline. Being that there was no magic in my Universe, I had no idea what leveling or attributes were for quite a while.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

“How’d you figure it out?” she asked, a lot more calmly.

“Well, you see when I put the ring on The Labyrinth realized that the spell was active again and sent something to investigate. “Her name is Abi and she’s imbedded in my subconscious.”

“I didn’t divine her with my spell,” she said.

“Yeah, she’s in there deep. Did I forget to tell you that one of my abilities is Perfect Memory?”

“You never told me, but I did notice that, and Guided Understanding, wait. So, the experience you’re getting from The Labyrinth, you can throw it into your skills and abilities as needed?” she asked.

“Yes, and when I’m at my Place of Power I can divert it into the spheres of power at a 2 -1 ratio.”

“So, while we’re sitting here talking you’ve started leveling your Monk class.”

“Yep. I figure by the time I wake up tomorrow I’ll have a Monk Class level of 232 or so if I don’t just use my saved experience to max out the class.

“And you already have so many Unarmed Combat Skills at Level 500?” she asked.

“Well, you should be able to visit the dungeon very shortly if that is your desire,'' she said.

“Maybe, I’m not sure I want to do that yet since the Labyrinth has been trying to get me for so long. Knowing I can multi-Class. I might need to look at doing that first.

“Well, before you get too far down the Monk class, I have a question for you, were you going to try to become a cleric?” She asked.;

“Perhaps down the road but not right this second. I should also let you know that your Goddess would be a natural fit for my literal thirst for knowledge. If there is a requirement to be good, yeah, that’s not me. I can be quite dark if I need to.”

Freya smiled “Serena accepts those of Good, Neutral, Lawful, and Chaotic alignments. Though those of Chaotic and Neutral alignments might not be as cherished as her good followers. I know that she would welcome you with open arms and you would then have a divine you could ask questions to, once you could commune with her” she said.

“How do I become a Cleric of Serena?”

“Activate your interface again and choose your third class. There will be a prompt for a cleric of the divine you name to accept you. Say my name and I will get a prompt, it’s that easy. I would suggest you level that class to level 1 then switch the XP back to monk and level as fast as you can. How much experience are you getting from the Labyrinth?” she asked.

“1,000 per second”

“Where’s the ring? You said you found and put on the Adamantium Ring?”

“The Adjudicator who handled my issues when I arrived made the link permanent. The ring is embedded within me somehow. He didn’t explain. Also, it’s soul bound to me now, so it will never go away.” He said.

“Okay, so 3 seconds, get level 1 then switch it back to Monk and try to get your Monk class above level 100.”

Adam pulled up his multi-class menu again.

Adam switched the XP so that Cleric made level 1, then switched the XP back to Monk. “Done!” he said.

“Congratulations!” she said. “By the way, this drink you made, is quite good. I’m sure it's alcoholic but I can’t taste the alcohol.

“That’s the point, it’s supposed to taste like tea.

“It is good,'' she said as she downed the Long Island Iced tea before continuing. “Well, I think we’re done for today, Tomorrow I will be a little busy. Might I suggest you go out and check out the town? Perhaps even make your way over to the Adventures Guild. If you can find a group, go on a Dungeon dive. You might like it. Also, now that you are a Cleric of Serena, even a 1st level Cleric, you can sleep at the temple for free if you don’t want to continue to pay the one silver to stay where you are. It is just Southeast of your current location. You can’t miss it. Of course, if you can’t find it, just ask any of the children running around. They like copper coins, “she said with a smile.

“I’ve already paid for the week, so I’ll just stay here. There are still a lot of questions I have. I don’t know if I’ll get to see the dungeon before I leave or not. Though I may try to go check out the rest of the city. I definitely want to go look around.” He said.

“Well Adam, I must say that today has been one of the most enlightening and interesting days an Academic can be part of. I do wish to speak with you again but tomorrow I am swamped. If you're still in the city in three days, come back in the morning. I should be available for any short discussion until lunch.”

“Thank you, Freya. I enjoyed our conversations, and the gardens were exquisite. Know that I will take my duties as a Cleric of Serena seriously, though my focus will be on gaining knowledge of course. If that is all I’ll bid you a good day and be on my way.

“May the light of Serena guide you. Be well Adam” she said.

Adam stood and walked down the stairs. He made his way to the main street and found one of the children Freya had mentioned.
