Chapter 2: As Quick As They Came

Chapter 2: As Quick As They Came

The car arrives at the casino. A red carpet covers the steps to the entrance as “Heartrich Casino” is placed at the top center of the large building. The entrance was small and led to a corridor then eventually the game room. Cecelia, being the first to exit the van, saw the masses within the casino begin to walk out quickly and absent-mindedly. She had known this scene all too well.

”It’s already starting! Let’s get moving.” Cecelia said. She was full of ambition today and would not let Isaac get away twice. Before they could make it towards the door, explosions could be heard inside. The ground rumbled. Debris and frivolous designs around the casino fell apart. ”Anna and I will go provide back up for Collins. Blake, guard the entrance and stop anyone suspicious! If he escapes through the front, stop him with your life!” As everyone moves out, Cecelia clutches her heart.

Anna stops in worry. ”Are you ok—“

”Just go!”

As Anna runs hesitantly towards the casino, Cecelia’s heartbeat goes faster and fast, eventually slowing down. She follows after Anna, biting her lip, remembering a bitter memory.

’Why can’t I hit him?’ Collin calmed his emotions, quite difficult considering Isaac is whistling merrily and with Mary singing Ella Fitzgerald’s “Stormy Weather”.

When he went away the blues walked in and met me

If he stays away, old rocking chair’s gonna get me

All I do is pray the Lord above, will let me

Walk in the sun once more

Annoyed to his wits, Collin continuously throws his ice mana around at Isaac. Gusts of cold air are freezing everything on contact as the casino is being painting a shattering light blue. Isaac soars throughout the casino, ricocheting off anything he lands on, barely dodging the spells thrown at him. He giggles and smiles, his blood dripping all over the casino, adding bright red to the canvas. Collin exhausts his body, becoming extremely tired and heavy as lead. He breathes heavily and stops. Isaac falls to his feet from the air in a comical pose, smiling widely. However, his smile turns into a deep grimace seeing Collin’s state.

”Is that all?”

Collin gives him a dirty look. ‘Collin, calm down. This man is trying to annoy you.’

It’s working.

“No no~ I was just starting to like him.” Mary said sarcastically from a table sipping orange juice, her legs crossed and an arm across a nearby chair.

“…”

Isaac could only sigh in return and turned to look at Collin’s sorry state before speaking. ”… You Kresniks eradicated my family over the centuries. Not that I ever loved them in the first place—“ Isaac flippantly began. Collin tried to gather his mana repeatedly as he talked. Isaac observes him for a few seconds irritably. ”Hey, I’m talking right now.”

The blood splatters scattered around the casino rose into the air in the form of red marbles. Isaac’s red eyes glowed magnificently and the marbles turned into thin, needle-like shapes. The needles flew towards Collin. He swings his left arm with all his power, creating an incomplete, spherical ice wall. The shield repels most of the needles. However, some penetrate the right arm and leg. His mana-infused blue blood hits the floor, evaporating slowly on contact.

”No need to struggle. I’ll make it painless.” Isaac cuts his palm with a knife he took out his suit. As the blood from his hand drips, he forms a red blade without a hilt. The blood weapon of the vampire king. He walks to deliver the finishing blow, but Anna jumps from the second floor, her left eye a deep yellow, and attempts to strike him from above with a combat knife. Mary intercepts it, Isaac falls back, and Anna repels off her hammer into a somersault, landing right in front of Collin. Isaac gives a cold, blank expression and disappears.

”Anna, move!” Collin commanded.

It was too late.

A red blade entered Anna’s abdomen from her back. Collin can only look up as Anna’s blue blood drips onto his face from Isaac’s blade. Isaac pinches his nose appalled by the blood. He removes the blade and Anna falls over in pain.

She screamed. So loud. It pierced their ears and cracked the air. Dropping to her knees, then her face, her body was motionless.

Isaac jumped over the table and slowly crouched into Collin’s face.”Don’t you hate it when uninvited guests come to a party? “ Isaac flares his fangs. Hearing his hiss, Collin is not shaken, instead, he grows fiercer, mana . Cecelia suddenly appears and fires the gun at him. The missed gunshots explode into the wall and pillars as ice. Isaac appears behind her, slowly grasping the gun from her hands, he whispers into her ear. ”It’s been a long time hasn’t it? Since that dog’s blood has ruined my appetite, I’ll let you guys go. It’s been fun.”

“Bye~”

‘If I ever see that girl again, I’ll kill her first’ Collin was annoyed to death as veins popped out near his temple. He had many experiences today. The joy of gambling, the feeling of annoyance, the inability to protect a comrade. Something Collin had never felt so strongly since he was a child.  He had lost control of the flow of mana around him because of his emotions, leaving him defenseless.

Cecelia only looked down devastated. Her bangs covered her dark expression. She wanted to chase him down to the ends of the earth, but with a comrade down and the strongest among them defeated, it would be futile to continue.

Isaac began to walk away towards the entrance, Mary following after him in a giddy mood. ”One more thing, I’ll make sure to kill all your friends on my way out. Bye Celly~”

He let himself out.
