Chapter 1: In The Beginning

The road was dark and traffic was sparse. A black van carrying three people silently approached their destination void of conversation. Only their breath could be heard in the cold air. The rear of the van had two rows of seats with enough space to occupy eight soldiers.

Two females sat on the left, one male on the right. They all wore the standard equipment for battle. Within the Kresnik organization, a black tank-top was worn under a black leather jacket laced with silver wolf fur around the hood down to the zippers. Four white circles, with various patterns, were on the back of the jacket. Flexible black tights strapped with ice-type magazines at the waist and a combat knife on both outer thighs were worn for women. Men wore baggy military styled black pants.

Cecelia sat up straight, looking out the fog-covered window.  Her golden hair reached a bit above her chin, parted to the side and frizzled near the ends, exposing both of her dazzling blue eyes that pierced the darkness. Her jacket was only zipped to her navel, allowing her bust to protrude distinctly as her pendant lay upon her breasts. ‘I don’t have much time... I want to be part of her life. I want to live longer’

”Cecelia!” Anna spoke out shyly, mustering the most she could out her voice. She had white hair that reached her waist, seemingly wrapping around her body, and black eyes. Her elegant body was full of curves despite her lack of more feminine traits, stream-lined, probably because of her race.

Blake cut through Anna’s voice with resolution and malice. “It’s Ms. Cruz to you, dog.” He had brown hair and vicious eyebrows. He sat with his legs wide open and his arms crossed.

“What?” Cecelia stared at Anna waiting and annoyed.

Anna retracted at her cold statement before responding. “Your daughter is in good hands so don’t worry—“

“Anna.”

”Y-Yes, Ms. Cruz?”

”Shut up and get ready.”

Guns were loaded with special ice-type magazines and tranquilizers. Cold air seeped from the barrel of the gun and blue particles spark from the bottom as cartridges went into it with full force.

“We’ve been chasing Isaac Valentine for three years. We’ve finally found him. Collin  spotted him by chance and we wont let this chance slip by.” Cecelia’s eyes twitched at her own mention of his name. She tasted disgust as she spoke it.

At the Heartrich Casino, the Kresnik heir, Collin, was playing Twenty-One with a female dealer. The casino was filled with bustle. Numerous tables were active at the same time with wealthy men and scantily dressed women. He was enjoying his time smiling to himself. He was usually practical in nature, but found gambling to be exciting as it was a new experience for him. Before long, he wasn’t even paying attention to his high-priority target and focused on the game. Dark and unkempt, his short, flat hair covered most of his forehead and was wavy in near the center. Contrary to his personality, he wore a variety of rings on all his fingers and a thin steel chain near his hip. His suit was unbuttoned, but he was looking sharp as to not attract attention for his usually shabby looks in this classy casino, though he did the exact opposite. He was being inspected by a fair amount of women in the casino before his phone rang.

“Hello?” Collin said without a shred of tension in his voice.

”Is he still there?”

”Yeah.”

”Don’t stick too close. He’s a sadistic maniac.”

“I’m keeping my distance.” Collin turned over at Isaac Valentine’s table, which was practically right across from him. A party was taking place in Isaac’s vicinity.  Bottles of champagne were popped open and sprayed across the poker table. Celebrations and cheers abounded every time Isaac spoke. He was wearing a suit similar to Collins, except his dress shirt was red and he wore a Limitless brand wristwatch. He had long, dark brown hair that women would periodically grab for his attention, only for it to flow out their hands in awe. He was muscular, yet lean. A perfect balance. Women were scouring around him and men were trying to become acquaintances with him as the amount of money he bet reached unbelievable heights. He had a woman around both his arms and quickly glanced at Collin, then looked at the brunette around his left arm, kissing her on the cheek as she squealed in excitement and others moaned in jealousy. Collin only smiled back questioningly during their exchange. However, a woman caught his eye soon after. She was staring at Isaac longingly and had light-brown hair in addition to a yellow, revealing dress and lipstick. Men could only look from afar as her atmosphere was mysterious and dangerous. She turned her head abruptly at Collin with a blank expression and wide eyes, which shocked Collin out of his trance.

” -You hear me Collin?”

“Huh? Yeah, yeah, sure— Oh, I won.”

”Cecelia, I won! I did it! I told you I can take risks—“

Cecelia hung up the phone and a short silence followed.

Blake fumed, but calmly spoke his thoughts. ”He’s a disgrace to the Kresnik organization.”

”He’s your future boss and his talent makes up for his lack of... tact.”

As Collin put his phone away, Isaac was seated right next to him. Everyone in the casino was standing still and Isaac’s eyes changed from a dark brown to a bright red.

”Nice.” Collin seemed underwhelmed and expressionless, but surprised at the same time. He had seen many vampyres perform this trick before, just not on this scale and with so much control, as lower-class vampyres that performed [Mind Control] could not completely subjugate their targets, but everybody within the casino stood perfectly still.

”Thank you.” Isaac snapped his fingers and everyone in the casino left in a trance. He took a sip of his wine and smiled wryly.  ”Are you not afraid of me?”

”No?”

Isaac laughed maniacally, placing his hand over his mouth to keep his poise and flailing the remainder of his body.  Collin noticed the girl with the red dress and lipstick did not remove herself from the casino. Alarms went off in Collin’s head as he should have been able to detect her presence without his sight, but he kept his cool and his eye contact with Isaac.

”Interesting! You must be strong then? What’s your name kid?”

”Collin Kresnik.”

Isaac suddenly disappeared and began walking atop the ceiling.

”Woah woah woah there, buddy. Isn’t that something you should’ve told me first? You’re nothing like your dad apparently—“

The wine glass in Collins hands broke as mana coursed through it. The ceiling began to freeze as Collin’s eyes turned from a dark black to a bright blue. The ice began to climb up Isaac’s leg from the ceiling, attempting to restrict his movements. Collin froze the cards on the table and threw them at Isaac at lightning speed with no hesitation. Isaac broke out the ice, evading the cards and quickly fell to his feet.

”Uh oh. I smell daddy issues.” Isaac said in a voice full of false care and intrigue.  “Is it because you can cast magic without assistant devices and he can’t?”

Collins face flared up in cold anger and blue streams of thick air surrounded his body. Before he could cast a spell, the girl standing on the sidelines abruptly approached him with a blood weapon the shape of a hammer twice the size of her body. Collin was too angry to dodge. As the hammer closed distance, he created a thick ice wall, more similar to a wave with jagged edges, to stop the inertia and did a half spin, channeling mana into his palm as his rings grew intensely, and destroyed the wall he created that even the hammer couldn’t budge with a single blow, retracting his arm on impact. The shards cut the girl and her clothes as she retreated, but it didn’t faze her. Collin blushed. Instead, she began to laugh manically as her counterpart did earlier, but didn’t bother to hide it.

“What an interesting character! You should at least try to hide your emotions during battle…” Isaac said with disappointment and happiness.

“…” Collin could only facepalm at his inexperience in the moment.

“I don’t like you.” She pouted, seemingly jealous as Isaac’s interest in Collin grew steadily.

Though he didn’t know it at the time, this would be the start of a very long relationship.
