Trickery

> Examine : Level 4 Carbuncle

The small, awkward reptile with a fist-sized gem jutting from between its two bulging eyes seems both surprised and perplexed, I dont think it looks all that deadly if it tries to fight me.

As I watch the lizard seems to fall over dead, fainting dramatically with its mouth open, with the gem its head fading to a colourless stone.

Well, That makes it easy, and with the wolves seeming to be reluctant to come in, I seem like I might actually be fairly safe down here.

I turn to look at the mouse, its a small little thing, with brown fur, large eyes and even larger ears, downright cute.

> Examine : Level 2 FieldMouse

It seems to be using its eyes to point to something, I turn around to have a look and stare directly into the carbuncles eyes.

> Carbuncle has used Suggestion

I find myself wanting to do what the Carbuncle wants, so I find a nice spot to place myself and start going to sleep

I sit there getting ready for sleep.

Wondering why I cant sleep I think about closing my eyes.

I realise I dont have eyes to close, and I am not even sure if I can sleep.

I think the carbuncle is trying to hypnotise me into sleep!

> You have resisted Suggestion

Looking over I see the carbuncle wrapping a vine around me, I quickly push a leg out to the side and kick it in the face. The carbuncle flies a surprisingly far distance away from ne.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

> Carbuncle takes 5 damage

The Carbuncle Gasps, and dramatically falls over dead again, the gem in its head dissipating.

Oh no I am not falling for that one twice in a row, I look around and back myself into the corner near the mouse, if I keep my back to the wall I should be safe.

As I get closer to the mouse, I realise It is tied up as well, and realise that the room to the side is full of bones, not branches, which would explain why the wolves were reluctant to go down here. It seems the carbuncle is quite the successful ambush hunter, and with that sleep ability I can sort of see why.

I step on one of the thin rope like vines which was holding the mouse, and under my weight it stretches, and then snaps which lets the little mouse wriggle around enough to start chewing the other vines in an attempt to free itself.

I hear a screech as the Carbuncle runs at me (slowly), as it gets close enough to me, I simply jump on top of it.

> Carbuncle has taken 5 damage, Carbuncle is dead

>

> Exp Gained 150, Current Exp 150/200

It seems Carbuncles really rely on their suggestion ability and playing dead, without either of those two in play, it didn't have a chance.

I look over at the mouse, Killing it would probably push me over and level.

As it chews on the vines, I cant bring myself to kill something which looks cute and hasn't actually attacked me. I might be a human from another world, but I am not a jerk.

The mouse finally chews itself free and I receive the message

> Quest Completed : Rescue the mouse

>

> Reward : 100 Exp

>

> You have levelled up! As a rock elemental you gain 1 constitution point per level, and you receive 1 extra point per level.

I quickly tap on dexterity again, bringing me to a blistering value of 4.

I start feeling like I really need to stretch my sides, like they are compacted.

Then the pain starts again, and when it is over, I look to the sides to find 2 small arms.

Finally! I at least have a humanoid shape! One without a head. And with three legs.

But its a start, and I have this little mouse to thank for it, Thanks Micey.

I look around the cave, and finding nothing but bones and a mouse looking at me, I decide its time to rest, and wait for the wolves to leave.

Looking over at the mouse I give it a light whistle.

It gives me a little squeak back.

We continue trading whistles for squeaks for the next few hours. I feel almost like I am communicating with someone again and have a few tears on the inside of joy.
