13. Planning and preparation

"Milady, you slipped off the stairs and tumbled down before falling unconscious." Reyna's reply did not affect Irene much and she gave her a thoughtful stare.

'Hmm, something huge and disastrous must have happened with Sylvaine. Otherwise, there was no way she would have remained unconscious for five days.' With that thought, she started walking again, her focus fixed on her notions rather than the beautiful surroundings around her. Reyna followed her quietly, confused by her Lady's behavior. However, she did not say a word about it.

'Will I be able to return home if I were to fall off the staircase again?' Irene wondered and just the thought of experiencing the pain of falling from such height made her shiver in fright. She shook her head at once. 'No way. I can't do it. I am not that brave. What if this plan backfires and I end up with broken bones and a wounded face? Will I have to live a life with a scarred face? Never.'

Irene shuddered when she imagined a scar on her beautiful face. Although she was in Sylvaine's body, she could not help but care for her body as though it belonged to her. As long as she was here, she was Sylvaine, and everything related to her was hers too. 'I cannot damage Sylvaine's face just because of my foolishness.' She thought and gave up on the idea.

'But what else can I do? What other option do I have?' She wondered and kept walking in circles, with Reyna following her closely. Irene placed her finger under her chin as she thought carefully. 'Is there any less painful and more effective method that could help me go back?' However, her mind refused to cooperate with her and she could not find any solution. All she could reach was dead ends with no escape from what she was stuck in.

Irene was about to turn around again when a loud noise broke her concentration. She turned to where the sounds came from and gave Reyna a confused look. "What is happening? Is there a celebration?"

"Yes, Milady. Today marks the beginning of the Mid-Autumn Festival. This is the kingdom's second biggest celebration after the Spring Festival." Reyna replied, her eyes gleaming in excitement.

"Mid Autumn Festival?" Irene frowned, wondering what she was talking about.

"Yes, Milady. The kingdom of Rothnia celebrates two festivals every year. While all the other kingdoms are invited to the Spring Festival, only the people of Rothnia celebrate the Mid Autumn Festival." Reyna replied with a happy glint and Irene gave her a mysterious look.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

'Why does Reyna look excited all of a sudden? Does she want to attend the festival?' Irene wondered. 'Now that Reyna has spoken this much about the festival, I want to take a look too.' Her curiosity was piqued, and she also wanted to see what would happen at the festival.

"Do you want to go?" She queried, looking at the girl who was smiling in delight.

"What, Milady?" Reyna gave her a surprised look, unable to comprehend what her Lady had asked.

"Do you want to go to the festival, Reyna?" Irene stressed, hiding her excitement behind her serious face.

"Ahh, no...I mean yes. I mean no, I cannot go." Reyna shook her head at once.

"Why not?" Irene frowned at her and folded her hands immediately.

"Milady, you just got up after being unconscious for days. How can I leave you and go?"

Irene let out a helpless chuckle at her words. 'This silly girl.' She sighed. "Who told you that you would be leaving me? I will be coming with you. I cannot let you have all the fun alone, right?" Irene winked at her and Reyna blushed again, just like she had done the previous night.

"Aww, so cute. Reyna darling loves blushing." Irene teased her and Reyna bit her lip immediately and lowered her head in embarrassment,

"Let's go." Irene held her hand and pulled her with her.

"Where are we going, Milady?"

"To see the festival, Why? Don't you want to go now? Did you change your mind?" Irene stopped and gave her a confused look.

"No, no, Milady. That was not what I meant. The festival only starts at the time of dusk on the first day. If we go now, we will only see preparations." Reyna stated and Irene's lips parted in realization.

"Then, why don't we look at the preparations?"

"No, no, Milady. Although I love to do so, the sun is quite bright today and you are still weak. So if we go to the festival now, you might be tired by the time the festival starts. And the actual enjoyment of the festival only starts after the moon rises."

Irene nodded at her in agreement. It was true that she still felt lethargic and after not having slept the previous night, her head had started throbbing lightly, creating havoc in her. It was as though a hammer was beating the hell out of her. All of a sudden, she yawned, her exhaustion clouding her thinking ability.

"You are right. If I go now, I will not be able to enjoy the festival when it starts. And I feel quite sleepy too. So let's go after dusk." Irene smiled faintly and walked back to her room.

"Where are we going, Milady?"

"I feel tired, Reyna. I want to take a nap." Reyna stood stunned in her spot and stared blankly at the woman who kept walking until she disappeared into the mansion.

This was the first time her Lady was thinking of taking a nap. Though Reyna understood that she was still weak and her body had yet to recuperate well, she was still distressed to see her this exhausted and weak. 'Please get well soon, Milady. I cannot see you this way.' She prayed and followed her Mistress back to the mansion.

Irene returned to her room, not waiting for the girl to accompany her back. She did not waste another minute and lay on the bed and the moment she closed her eyes, she succumbed to what her body craved the most.
