It was a day like any other.
The Zombies and Ghouls had gotten into it because Ghouls could have children but Zombies couldn't. A portion of the government turned out to be a lizard race descended from a different type than originally assumed. People on the internet were taking advantage to cause issues with anyone, even the species itself if they were to mistype the name.
Nothing interesting at all.
Until a chick, fresh from the egg and dried down, sneezed. Just a little one. And the entire world turned white. Everything in the universe was rewound and changed while this chicken watched. Watching as the world around it turned to nothing. The sun retracted into itself and shimmered before forming again as a different star and repeating.
The chicken watched it all as everything brought itself back to the origin point. It wrapped itself up into an ovoid. It lost interest in its surroundings and fell asleep. Unaware of all the changes in what was left of the universe as it was wrapped up in a new shell of gases.

Derxin awoke with a start, as did most of his town, as the amount of mana in the air drastically reduced at a rate that was felt by his whole body. Goosebumps lined his body and fear started to set in. Nothing that could, or would, take in that much mana near a small town was doing it for any good.
Derxin wasn't strong or smart enough to handle whatever would be happening so he got up and rushed to the town center as would anyone else who wanted to stay out of the way.
As he had assumed, most of his neighbors, people he'd known for over a decade now, were lined up and waiting to use the emergency bunker underneath the town hall. People with non-combat professions were unable to defend themselves for the most part after all. Most bonuses, if any, would go into stats specifically for the job you chose. And that left a lot of people without the strength to protect themselves.
As he sat down in the bunker and conversed with his neighbors about what might be happening, time dragged on.
