“Identification.” A guard with amber undercut hair and an eyepatch asked with an extended hand.
“I don’t have any.” I said with confidence.
The guard sighed. “Turn around for me son, extend your arms and legs.”
I did as told and the guard started to pat me down.
“Do you have any weapons, potions, dimensional storage, or anything on you I should be aware of?” The guard asked whilst still patting me down.
“No, just me, my clothes, and I.”
The guard finished his inspection and narrowed his eyes.
“Where are you from son, there’s not any villages close that you could walk from, especially with no protection.” The guard asked quizzically.
I shrugged, “I’m just a radish farmer from fa small village coming here with big dreams to become an adventurer.”
The guard stared at me for a bit longer, but then sighed and looked behind him.
“Hey Anton.”
“Yes, Vikir.”
“Could you take over inspection for a bit, I’m gonna escort this kid to get an adventurers license.”
“Sure thing.”
“Follow me kid, I’ll take you to get a license.”
Vikir then proceeded through the gate into Breufidem with me on his tail.
As I passed through the gate, I felt a weird sensation that gave me goosebumps.
VIkir was observing me as I felt this sensation.
“Is something wrong?” I asked.
“I’m guessing you don’t know, but the gate we just passed through has one of the strongest dispelling magics cast upon it.” Vikir responded.
“Oh, is there a particular reason for the dispelling magic?”
“Well with the war raging on, you can never be too careful of demons disguising themselves with magic to sneak in and wreak havoc.”
“So you thought I might be a demon.” I responded.
“Not really, you’re not giving off dangerous energy and no offense, but you’re not that strong looking, but you can never be too safe.”
“Fair enough, is that the reason you’re also escorting me.” I asked.
“You just seem like a very peculiar case, coming here without absolutely nothing, and also saying your a radish farmer, when you lack the hands of a radish farmer, so I’m keeping an eye on you, mainly out of interest than sense of danger.”
“Gotcha.”
As Vikir and I walked I noticed the outskirts of the kingdom were poorer compared to the parts of the kingdom that were closer to the giant castle at the center. We also passed by market places with vendors selling different goods for cheap prices along the way.

“Hey Vikir, where would be a good place to get more information on. . . well everything?”
“Well there is the Breufidem Library, the first floor is accessible to commoners, and has a wide selection of books and newspapers, but you aren’t allowed to take any outside the library. Another good place for information, is the information desk at the adventurers guild, which is also the place where we’re headed to get your adventurers license.”
“So once I get my license, I can immediately take quest?”
Vikir paused for a second.
“Yes, but if you have never taken up a weapon before, then I would highly suggest doing odd jobs that don’t require fighting while you train in your free time, I’d hate to see a new face get killed due to his hubris.”
“Noted.”
We walked another minute, passing by street vendors that sold pricier goods than those farther from the center and some shops that sold armor, weapons and other adventuring goods. We arrived at the adventurers guild, or at least that’s what it looked like to me. It had a sign out front, but I couldn’t read it. I guess I’m able to understand and speak the language, but reading and writing might be a different story.
Entering the building it looked like the adventure guilds I’ve seen in fiction, a line of front desk with receptionist assisting adventurers, tables filled with adventurers drinking and strategizing, a quest board piled with quest fliers pinned all over, an upstairs that most likely held offices. The atmosphere felt welcoming and cozy, probably due to the joyous nature of all the patrons.
“Follow me kid, I’ll get ya sorted.” Vikir said.
Vikir led me through the busy hall to one of the guild receptionists at the front desk.
She had amber hair that was short at the front, but was braided and long in the back, she was wearing a green and gold uniform just like the other receptionistsshe that complimented her bright and cheerful green eyes.
“Hey Val.” Vikir called out to the guild receptionist.
“Vikir, what are you doing here, aren’t you supposed to be on guard duty.” Val questioned with puffed cheeks.
“I am, but my pal here needs an adventurers license, and I thought I’d escort him here to get one.”
While saying this he pointed behind at me.
“Fine, fine, let me get a card for him then, is this your first time getting an adventurers license dear?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“Alrighty, give me one second,” Val went into a backroom and came out with a plain piece of wood the size of an index card and placed it infront of me.
“Okay sweetheart, this is an F rank adventurers license, it will allow you to take any F ranked quest in the Breufidem Kingdom, if you’re adventurers license is lost, you will have to pay a fee of 2 silver pieces to replace it, but since you don’t have a record your fee will only be 1 silver piece. Now all you have to do is write your name in the top left and prick your finger to let a drop of blood fall onto the card”
“Oh, I actually never learned how to read or write, so. . .”
“That’s alright dear, I can write your name for you, a lot of the patrons that get a card will have me write it for similar reasons or because they have messy handwriting, so what’s your name?”
“Oh, uh. . . Yuri, I guess”
“Yuri? Is that foreign?”
“Val, I wouldn’t question him, you’ll only get more confused,” Vikir rebutted.
“Um, okay, well, I wrote your name down and all we need now is a drop of blood"
I pricked my finger, let a blood drop fall onto the wooden index card and when the blood drop touch the card, it suddenly glowed with a white enchanting light and then the light faded, and now engraved on the card was information regarding me, such as eye color, age, and height.
“Wait, how does it know all this stuff”
“Well all adventurer cards are enchanted, and they use the dna of your blood mixed with your mana to get an accurate description of yourself, we also get a copy that goes into our records just in case.”
“Okay, so that’s it, I’m an adventurer now, right?”
“You will be, after you pay the 1 silver fee for your first license.”
Turning to Vikir with a puppy dog look on my face “hey Vikir, could you help me out, pretty please, I’ll pay you back.”
Sigh, “I already knew this was gonna happen, don’t worry, I’ll cover for you, but you will be paying me back for this,” Vikir handed over 1 silver piece to Val.
“Thank you.”
'And now I can officially start my adventure.'
