Fighting his first Maelin was terrifying, though he felt anger, it froze him in place, he couldn't do anything, he was powerless. He realized that fighting a terrifying creature was not like how it was described in mangas and whatnot, he finally understood the "idiotic" characters that froze up in place in front of danger, he wondered why his "fight, flight, freeze" response didn't choose fight, or flight, why did it have to be freeze? Well no matter, he was done for, he was dead, never gonna avenge anyone or anything, he allowed himself to freeze after getting cocky, he was a terrible, weak, and disgusting person, and he always needed someone to save him. He silently prayed to whatever God was up there, to send someone to him, they didn't answer. He was pinned on the ground, desperately hanging on to dear life as its rough claws pierced his stomach. Blood. This was it for him. He never even made it to his twenties. His final thought was: "I hope everyone makes it through". He was an incredibly selfless 8 (almost 9) year old, why? Because he didn't want to watch anyone else die under the crushing pressure of monsters, falling structures- in short, he just didn't want anyone to die, he'd considered what to do if he was left all alone in this horrible, nightmare of a world.
