Chapter 9: The Short Escape

Outside was a decent number of guards each donning a different crest. Looking for the nobility maybe?

Either way, it matters to me little for I am in chains and on a road that could nearly be described as a ghost town in its own right. I mean it is rather large and could easily be the main road for a small settlement.

Has an evacuation been ordered? There seems to be too few people on the road... It feels a creepy...

Seriously other than Lizzy, the guards and I there seems to be around two other people on the street.

Are we in a noble district or just a deserted one? The houses look decently plain though...

Needless to say though, it is quite convenient to me who want limited people to see what's about to happen.

Time for my escape! Normal collar means no pesky runes, yay!

I turn to my smallest form, The Beetle!

A large sound of iron hitting stone comes in less than a second later. Needless there was a confusion between the group and a sense of panic.

Words along the lines of “How could this happen?” and “What just happened?” float around the group as one of the slightly shinier armored guards finally gets a grip on what's happened and is visibly paled by it.

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

Mr. Shiny Guard whispers to himself “This could be bad”

Mr Shiny Guard without hesitation turns to Elizabeth and says

“Madam, I am sorry for the inconvenience but I require you to meet with the guard captain as an eye witness of what just happened...”

“Hmm? I will say its odd but the guard captain, is that really necessary?”

“Yes, in the account of one of the girls not confessing to conjuring the creature and it being a simple case of being too far away then more than just a guards word is needed.”

“Okay, but where do we meet them?”

“We will go to a nearby tavern and we will get one of the guards to shed their armor then run to get the captain as to not waste your time.”

Mr Shiny Guard reassembled the other guards and told them the situation and said that a volunteer would be needed to run an urgent errand. In half a minute the group was moving again up the road.

I follow behind watching the group make its way towards a tavern but a decent distance away, even if I am a bug I can still be seen.

The other guards were trying to remember if the nearest tavern was any good by asking the others they came to a mutual agreement. Yes. The tavern was not bad and so none of them wanted to run the errand it seems. They started to play a version of Rock, Paper, Scissors from what I can guess is called Teacher, Hero, Demon King.

The Demon King not being able to defeat the Hero? Just shows you how mature humanity is...

As the other guards were deciding who the errand boy would be, Mr Shiny Guard was being strangely apologetic to Lizzy...

Wait, don't tell me...

He likes her. Sure she is good looking but try to play in your own field. I mean your what, 50 and you like someone who has probably still got their innocence intact (If you don't know what that means then you are probably are not old enough to be here) then again for humans it may be completely fine but I feel a little disgusted by the thought...
