List of all named characters present in Volume 1 In order of relation:
Eshu/Sav’ta – once ruthless hitman, he died at the hands of the police after a lifetime of evading the hands of justice. He was then reborn as a world and would go on to acquire the name of the goddess, Sav’ta. Her one goal is to find the key to true immortality and survive the death of the sun and even the stars but, since that’s proving quite difficult, she has decided to pass the time by watching the life on her surface flourishing.
Musa (the first) – the boy who was said to be cursed. He was saved from dying along with his mother who had taken her own life by Sav’ta who went on to watch over him until he met his untimely demise at the hands of a Chofumah hunter.
Mlezi – once a simply Umande patrolman, it was he who took Musa in after the boy was saved from drowning alongside his mother. He and his wife would go on to be exiled for choosing to raised a child who was supposedly cursed but Mlezi ignored the callous words of his people and raised Musa to be a good and kind young man while also fathering a second son, Jua. Mlezi was heartbroken when Musa died and this earned him and his family pity from the goddess Sav’ta. She allowed them to bury Musa before becoming them to the summit of Mount Kupumzika where they were blessed with divine knowledge. Using this knowledge, Mlezi and his family returned to their homeland of Hatua where they brought it into a new age of prosperity using the power of Glass – a mystical crystal which held within it the very fires present during the birth of everything.
The kingdom of Hatua would come to call Mlezi chief and his family would mark the beginning of the Hennean Dynasty.
Mlezi, unfortunately, would be assassinated by a rebel group known as Starfall who hated the way the Chofumah were treated under his rule. These insurgents would quickly be defeated by Mlezi’s wife Ua.
Ua – Queen of Hatua. She, like her husband, had humble origins but everything changed when her first son died. Musa’s death birthed in her heart a hatred that was directed at the Chofumah people. Although only one of them had killed her son, she damned all of them to years of suffering as she limited the resources and education they received.
Mlezi’s death pushed her further over the edge and she almost killed every member of the tribe which Chief Kukiyah led.
Countless died at her hands and this was enough to strain her relationship with her son who grew to despise her.
Jua – Unlike his brother, Jua wasn’t allowed to train in the ways of combat and hunting. Ua pampered and spoiled him while ensuring that no harm ever came his way.
This continued even after his brother died although, regardless of how hard Ua tried to keep him within the walls of their palace, he would eventually come to see the truth of his parents’ rule.
He saw the oppression of Chofumah and sympathized with their plight.
He then began doing whatever he could to help them, whether if it was by healing them in secret or feeding them.
His relationship with his mother would further be strained when she killed off almost every member of the otherwise peaceful tribe of the Mbegu people.
It was here that he chose to disown her but Ua could not imagine a world where her son didn’t love her and so she confronted him but no matter how hard she tried, Jua had made up his mind.
And so, in an act of madness, Ua incapacitated her son and forced herself onto him, conceiving a child in the process.
Jua, after regaining consciousness, would continue to help the Chofumah and set the stage for their eventual exodus helmet by his personal Fire Breaker, Pele.
He, unfortunately, would not live to see them leave as he took his own life.
Musa (the second) – The third son of Ua and the product of a twisted conception. He is the only remaining heir to the Hennean Dynasty.
Mkali – Ua’s father. He, along with the rest of the Umande tribe, cast out his daughter for choosing to mother a child they thought to be cursed.
Tamu – Ua’s mother.
Heziyn – The Chofumah and Umande peoples once lived in a perpetual state of suffering at the hands of the creatures that also called the continent of Hatua home.
The Chofumah, who lived in the Northern forest of Afor sought salvation to the south and so they crossed the Kifo Valley and were taken in by the Umande who offered what little they could.

Heziyn was among those who came.
She ended up falling in love with a Umande warrior named Heri who had chosen to serve under Mlezi.
He would unfortunately die in the Crystal Lands and, left with no one else, she was taken in by Mlezi in accordance to old Umande tradition.
She would go on to raise Jua alongside Ua, who spent most of her time studying and furthering her knowledge.
Her closeness to the Hennean Dynasty meant that she bore witness to their treatment of the Chofumah and was even on the receiving end of that cruelty due to her being a Chofumah herself although she was spared from the worst of it.
She stuck closely to Jua as he grew up and supported him even as a he revelled against his mother.
She would then be heartbroken when Jua took his own life.
She would not get time to mourn, however, as Ua would send her to the southern settlement of Kimbilio which had been formed by the men who witnessed the first Musa’s death.
Ua sent her to monitor and gain control over the settlement and its people but Heziyn ended up finding a new purpose life after speaking to the town’s mayor, a man named Ed.
She decided to rebel against Ua although the exact way she would do that remains a mystery.
Thabiti – He was once a patrolman, just like Musa and although he didn’t treat Mlezi and his family as harshly as the rest of the Umande tribe, he ultimately failed to raise a hand to aid his friend after his exile.
However, he would find himself in front of Mlezi’s door after his friend laid the foundations of what would become a great kingdom.
Mlezi welcomed his friend with open arms and appointed him as general of his armies.
Thabiti worked tirelessly to train Mlezi’s men and ensured that they were fit to protect all peoples.
What he didn’t expect, however, was just how cruel his friend would become in the years following his son’s death.
Thabiti bore witness and was led in the abuse and slaughter of thousands of Chofumah although, unlike Mlezi and Ua, he regretted his actions and even grew to hate himself and those he once considered friends.
He would go on to assist Jua in his ambition to see the Chofumah free.
Mpole – Thabiti’s wife and close friend tooth Ua and Heziyn.
Imani – He was one of the first men to join Mlezi after he descended from Mount Kupumzika.
He served loyally as one of Mlezi’s warriors but he was quick to notice the hatred that burnt in Mlezi and Ua.
He would leave for the Forest Afor with his family and aid the Chofumah in their struggles. He worked closely with the two Chofumah chiefs, Kukiyah and Ayit, although things would get awkward when Kukiyah’s soon to be wife confessed her love for him.
Imani rejected her but she swore to aid him in his ambitions but all he ever wanted was for the Chofumah to be free.
Things took a tragic turn when Mlezi died at the hands of insurgents.
In an act of madness, Ua slaughtered droves of those who called the Forest Afor home.
This was enough to make Kukiyah give in to despair but Imani held onto his sanity even after finding the burnt corpse of his wife and child.
He would eventually submit to Ua along with the rest of the Chofumah but would be offered a means of salvation by Jua who would go on to build a fleet of one hundred ships which would take the Chofumah to a land where they could be free, Y’shuah.
Matumaini – He, like Imani, was among the first who followed Mlezi on his path to erect a prosperous kingdom although he would die along with his friend in Afor at the hands of Starfall.
Heri – Heziyn’s first husband and another of the first who joined Mlezi after his descent from the Mount.
He would unfortunately die at the hands of rabbits in the Crystal Lands.
Mashouah – He was the chief of the group of Chofumah who fled south initially.
He worked alongside the Umande elders to keep their peoples alive during the worst of times although they always just barely made it to the next year.
He would eventually ally himself with Mlezi only to join the others in fleeing when the time for Exodus came.
Chakh'mah – Mashouah’s aunt.
Chazak – He was among those who fled Afor in search of salvation but the journey south was so harsh and horrible that it left him and many others scared both physically and mentally.
His desperation would manifest in a violent way when Mlezi refused to give him Meerkat meet for free and so, as night fell, he killed Mlezi’s son in a attempt to rob the hunter and run to the south but his life was painfully ended by Sav’ta who had taken a liking to the boy she had saved.
Ed – He was among those who bore witness to Musa’s death and he was so thoroughly terrified when Sav’ta killed Chazak that him and his fellow witnesses took their families to the far south where they made their own settlement although their every day would be haunted by visions of that night.
Emunah – Kukiyah’s wife although she only married him to further Imani’s ambitions, unbeknownst to the chief.
She is of Chofumah blood and was among the first Blessed Sisters but she was only able to because at the time of her education, Ua’s hatred for the Chofumah hadn’t yet grown to its worst levels.
Kukiyah – He was the chief of one of the two tribes that called the Forest Afor home.
Now he serves as advisor in the council in Y’shuah.
Ayit – He was the chief of the other tribe that called the Forest Afor home.
Now he serves as advisor in the council in Y’shuah.
Pele – He was one of the first Fire Breakers and witnessed Mlezi’s assassination.
For the valiant act of bringing the kings body back to the royal palace, Ua rewarded him with the duty of being Jua’s guard.
His closeness with the young man meant that he grew to see the truth behind the cruelty of the fledgling Dynasty.
It was Jua and Mlezi who decided that Pele become the Chief of the Chofumah and he accepted the role graciously.
Mchungaji – He was the chief of the offshoot tribe of the Umande, the Mbegu.
These humble people worshiped a mutated gigantic tree known as the Mti.
They would unfortunately be slaughtered by Ua as her madness grew but Mchungaji would be spared and be made to suffer as a reminder of just how powerful Ua was.
His life would be saved by Sav’ta who grew curious after seeing him manipulate blood in a new form of magic.
