Rime ice

In a forest with dead trees, hoarfrost lined the branches of the trees, making it look like a structure out of a movie.

A beggar like boy walked uphill through the clouded forest. A black and red fist clenching his stomach as if he’s in pain.

Diarrhoea…

Everytime my stomach cramps from the cold and muscle overwork, it combos together with my stomach ache amplifying my discomfort and pain. I could almost feel the next round coming up.

Oh..p yup, there it is..

Maybe I should have endured my craving for food…

Not only that, i had just drank some water from the ice on the branches of the trees to relive the rough feeling on my throat caused be my own vomit

The ice somehow tasted better than the snow I had drunk but didn't really help me with the situation.

Despite the stunning beauty of the trees, there was a nightmare to walk through.

I mean, just look at it. A forest filled with spiky ice trees. At the top of the tree, there's even a large icicle pointing straight down at me, who knows whether it would fall and pierce my head.

Do you know how mentally exhausting this is? Any second, I could DIE.

Sigh*

Carefully manoeuvring between the trees, I weaved through the maze-like forest. Making sure I had eyes on the trees and the mountain range so as to not lose track of where I was going.

Though it would be hard to lose sight of a mountain range that basically takes up most of the view of the landscape under normal conditions. This was not the case.

Not far from me was a thick veil of mist blocking the view of the mountain range.

It even seemed like it was moving at a somewhat fast pace. Yet it had covered the mountain for as long as I have seen it.it was like a tornado surrounding the mountains with it being in the eye of the storm.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Looking around, i found a small dent on the ground, it was a hole that seemed like it could be used as shelter

I walked around the area for a bit, collecting some branches to build a fort.

I have heard that shelter is very important in survival situations. Not only that, my legs were about to give out from the slight cramps that occurred regularly

I placed the large branches in front of the pit next to a tree, making a barricade. It prevented the slight down draft of cold wind that brushed against me.

Leaning against the tree branch in the pit, I sat down resting for a bit. In this short time, I dismantled the corpse of the dead rabbit.

I harvested the bones of the corpses , twisting off a few bones of the rib cage and using it to pierce parts of my fur coat, piecing it together like a puzzle to mend the holes in it.

(nicely done if i say so myself)

A nice coat decorated with bones was made, with a stylistic appearance. The white colour of the bones matched well with the snow white colour of the scarf.

I massaged my feet and hand, doing some stretching exercises while extending my feet out.

(some hot chocolate would be nice right about now…)

Khreeei

A cry from above was heard.

I looked up to find a flock of crow like birds flying past me.

(did they come from beyond the mountain?)

WHOOSHHH

A strong down wind hit me directly. Unlike the previous times, I felt the immense change in temperature. It was as if I was in a dessert the whole time compared to this wind which would even put jack frost to shame.

A layer of ice formed on my cloak the instant it made contact with me, numbing my entire body and making my breathing unstable.

I desperately ran behind the tree I had been leaning to, hiding behind it.

Cling*

A large piece of icicle tapped my shoulder from above. It was then I saw that all the trees around me had curved and bent down. The ice on their branches looked more menacing. They had a deeper shade unlike their previous form. Baring their pointy tips at me they fell on my head weighing me down and causing small bruises.

Rumbblelll*

The ground shook, causing the surrounding snow to fall a few metres down. I clung to a tree, enduring the ice shards digging into my palms.

The tree shook as if it was trying to push me off itself. It was then I saw the interior of the trees all around me turn green from its roots. The neon light green quickly spread to the crystal, converging.

Whiiiirrrrr*

(nope)

I let go of the tree and leapt off the ground as soon as I touched the ground, sending me flying backwards together with the collapsing snow.

Cling*

Contrary to my expectations as i braced myself for the impact, the crystal on the trees did not shoot out a laser of sorts, but the green light was sent back to its roots with supernatural speed

BANG*

The ground shook once more as the trees sent back the green light into the ground in unison, causing the snow to stop moving and an updraft of wind that stabilised my landing on the snow. Not only that, I felt the temperature return rapidly to its original temperature.

Looking back, I saw that the collapsing snow stopped and that the blanket of snow far off in the distance I had come from was moving in a disorganised manner.

Along with that commotion my self proclaimed shelter was blown away. The branches scattered, but that wasn't the worst part. It was that the hole in the ground was filled with snow.

(i was going to name it cain, what a shame)

Hmm..

(i’ll just move on)

Getting up from the mess i was in, i brushed off the snow using the back of my hand. As for the injury, it will receive the same treatment as the others- letting my body’s natural healing capabilities and the cold deal with it.

Once again I journeyed on.
