Chapter 9: "Doing it with two people is very exhausting"

"Gentlemen, sorry for keeping you wai–"

"Now!!!"

Lawrence's dramatic entry was shadowed by the upcoming smoke explosion that took place in the house. Just as if someone had thrown smoke grenades inside the wannabe kitchen, a veil of fog extended cutting everyone's line vision.

Or rather, almost anyone

"Hurry up and untie me!"

"I know, I know! Wait a sec!"

Lawrence froze for a split second. What had happened? He left for a few seconds and this happened?! What the hell was Mika doing? Then he realized. Smoke! One of them fired this smoke cloud. But how?! One of them had empowered, after all! And finally, fear. What if the smoke was dangerous? Poison? Corrosion? Flammable gas?! There was no knowing. He was shocked, and had no viable option to solve the problem. All the voices in his brain, telling him what to do, what not to do, or simply panicking, they were so loud he thought he had gone deaf...

And then, like a power switch, he shutted down. His mind went completely blank. Any secondary train of thought, remanent ideas, it all blacked out

And his instincts took control.

"Mi– Knight!" He caught himself on the march. "Evacuate, now!"

"Yes sir!" He heard his minion's reply, followed by the now common puffing sound.

Immediately after, he used his newest acquisition, the Evileye. In a second, A holographic window displayed above a dense cloud of smoke.

So it was toxic smoke! And it was a ticking time bomb too! Well, he wouldn't allow that bomb to blow off in his face!

He planted a foot on the ground, holding his breath. The muscles in his legs tensed, and then he dashed next to the screen probably only he could see. He took a stance, exhaled, and putting all of his might on his fist, he yelled.

"Like hell you are!"

The punch connected. Judging by the feeling of it, probably on Bob's chin. It made a satisfactory sound and then something thudded, probably the once again unconscious man falling backwards. It crashed with the chairs and the chain, and everything fell to the ground made one single mess.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

Immediately after, the whole smoke cloud cleared. He zeroed Rohn, who was currently making a run for the exit door. Instead of chasing after him, he ducked, snuck his hand in the kitchen's wood stove, and took out a rather aerodynamic and thick stick.

"Hey Rohn!"

The person in question stopped on his track, looking backwards.

"Catch" Lawrence threw with all his might.

"Wha–" The man's words were cut short as the stick slammed on his cheek. Probably more than one tooth came off thanks to that. He lost his balance and fell back, and Lawrence threw himself over him, punching him a couple more of times just to make sure the guy was knocked out.

He stood up, shaking a now very soaring hand. He wasn't used to punching someone in the face, not that that was something to be ashamed of.

He turned back, just in time to see Bob swinging a chair around and about to hit him in the head. Before he could even protect himself, though, there was a burst of black smoke, and Mika's fist came out of it, hitting the side of the man's head. The rest of her followed up, and she hit him with the other hand in the stomach. There was a weird sound as the air inside Bob's lungs was violently ejected, and he slammed against the wall. At the same time, the chair fell to the ground, and an almost-but-not-entirely-knocked-out Rohn stood up and grabbed a piece of rubble from one of the room's semi-fallen walls, trying to get Lawrence with it.

Mika kicked Bob one last time, puffed in and out behind Rohn, kicking him in the back and making him stumble forward. Lawrence used that chance, grabbed the guy by the fake tux and threw him to the ground, kicking him in the ground. Then he saw Bob stumbling back on his feet.

"What are these, zombies?!" He picked Rohn up from the ground and threw him to Bob. They both crashed and fell to the ground. He gestured Mika to and pointed a chain, and then picked up one on his own. She assented, ducked and grabbed the other chain. They both ran to the enemy duo, hit them in the face again, and chained them to the stove, this time making sure they stayed that way.

"Phew, that was rough."

"Chief, you've got to hit them in the chin if you want them blacked out."

"I am not going to ask how you know any of that."

"You've gotta learn things to live in the street."

They both looked at the men they had just beaten the crap out of. They weren't precisely in perfect shape. In fact, Bob's chin looked like it had gone to the gym and worked the hell out of it's abbs, while Rohn's face reminded something between a distrophic yam and the Himalayas' mountains.

They were finally unconscious, too. This time for good.

"Someone is feeding on jelly and soup for a loooong time..." Was everything Mika could say of Rohn's teeth.

"Sowhat do we do now, chief? You done with the third guy?"

"Yeah... Yes. I got the information we needed. As for these two... They don't look like they're talking in some time."

"You are fifty percent guilty of that, you know."

"And you are guilty the other fifty percent, so don't look at me like that."

They both sat on the ground. The chairs were now desteoyed with so many battling.

"So, again, what are we going to do?"

"That part is clear. We turn them over to the police."

"What? But, wait. What if they inform them about us?"

Lawrence froze. He hadn't been thinking about that.

But... He was too tired to think any further. He would consider it later.

"You know what, Mika, let's just leave these guys here and head home. We'll come back later to check on them. I'm dyin to get this dirt off me" he said, dusting off his coat.

"Good idea. My favorite hoodie is stained with sticky fluids. Doing that with two people is rough and tires me too much. Though I also liked it a lot. Maybe we can do it again some time... Hey? Chief? Why are you ducking like that?"

"S-S-Shut up! Leave me like this for a bit would you?!"

He would despise himself for misunderstanding Mika's words for a long, long time.
