Chapter 3

Chapter 3

A slight giggle came from right next to me. Sadie smiled as she looked me over. “I knew you’d love that. You adorable dork.”

“I Can’t help it! You know how much I love these kinda game elements in an isekai story. Sure they’re now happening to me but it doesn’t make them any less cool!”

I could almost feel my face heat up as I got excited. I seriously could be such a child sometimes.

After seeing my face though her grin grew and became infectious. Seriously this person makes me so happy. I. Can’t. Even.

“Oh, by the way. Considering you said you got to talk to that person. What’s our objective? What are we supposed to be doing next? Where are we supposed to be headed? Because I think isekais are cool and all that, but I kinda don’t want to just wander about like a chicken without a head.”

Her smile became a little more tight as she said her next words, “Well, we’re going to have to stop a war apparently. According to them, two countries are currently heading to war and it’s going to cause massive destruction. We got summoned to prevent needless loss of life and to make the war not escalate to its worst possible outcome.”

“Um? That sounds pretty difficult to do? Especially considering we’re basically two outsiders to this world. I don’t think I could make any convincing arguments to stop two whole nations from going to war. If this place is anything like Earth then I don’t think that a war just springs out of nowhere. There’s probably some not so easy to forget history that caused it. Not to mention the more realistic causes of profit and gain that some try to make from causing wars.”

Saying this got me a glare though. “Babe. I know you can be a realist at times but we have to do this. I wasn’t going to mention this but I think I should. They said we can go back.”

  Seriously?

  Really?

“So we aren’t going to be forced to forever live out the rest of our lives in a completely foreign world because some shitty god summoned us? Are you sure it isn’t a trick?”

  Silence followed my question.

Soon she replied though it was almost too quiet to hear at first. And I wasn’t quite sure if I heard it right. “I mean we have to try right?”

Nodding my head, “Yeah, yeah we do.”

At this I push her butt upwards and lift her forward. “Okay what’s the first thing we have to do. We must have a map or at least a direction we should head in first right? I wouldn’t believe that we’d be given such a task without even being given something so basic.”

At that she hands me the small notebook that she used to demonstrate the inventory ability earlier.

  “Open up the first page.”

A small ding was heard in my ear and several windows popped up shortly after.

  Cool? I guess?

“Okay now just say open Objectives.”

  So I did. “Objectives?”

Objectives Head to warfront of Thynx and The Tribe Wildlands

Before she could say anything my curiosity got the better of me and I clicked on the underlined words.

As a result a map showed up in front of me, it showed our current location in the cave and the surrounding mountains. They apparently continued on for several miles completely isolating the entire area around us from the two countries that were about to have war. Thankfully it seemed that once we got past the mountain range it wouldn’t be too far until we reached the outskirts of the Thynx kingdom. We’d just have to pass through a large forest as well as manage to pass over what looked to be the major river of the region. It’s waters passing through both countries and even the offshoots of it branched out to their current location.

I couldn’t help but worry though that I’d have to keep this large screen open constantly though so I couldn’t manage to get lost. Which as though responding to my thoughts, the window immediately shrunk at retreated to the corner of my eye becoming what was basically a mini map that you’d see when playing a RPG.

Which furthered my thoughts to wondering if I could do the same for all my other basic stats. And at that point I was surprised, but not disappointed when I saw mini health, magic and energy bars show up as well. If I had any doubts about the game like nature of my isekai before, they all died and fizzled out at that.

  Yep this is definitely amazing.

  I love isekais.

After that the last thing I checked out was my inventory. Which at this point I realized all these game points were thought activated and whenever I had the intention to do the actions they happened. So no surprise that when I wanted to open my inventory, it opened. It looked just like I was playing WoW or any other basic MMO. So a bunch of boxes with basic words beneath it describing the item. If I focused on it then I’d see a more detailed description appear too. Which honestly, I didn’t really need to know about the region in which the flour ground to make the 20 loaves of bread I had in my inventory came from. Where the hell was the Lion Hills anyways?

Area of inquiry not acquired. Please come back later when area has been unlocked.

That’s cool I guess? But that was more of a rhetorical question window-sama. Anyway, the most important thing though was that I had no clue how dangerous of a region the area around us was so I should at least equip the freebies hoodie-’sama’ gave us.

Which in all honesty, they didn’t really look like much, as a shrine maiden’s knight I kinda pictured gleaming metal armor. Maybe a holy sword that shone even without a light source or something. So a black cloak, which unsurprisingly had a hood as well, made of a thick and dark leather kinda was underwhelming. Even the underclothes were a boring dark almost black, brown that at least thankfully seemed to be at least comfortable to wear. The only part that I couldn’t understand was whether or not to wear the necklace that came with it. It said it was part of a set but honestly the weird symbol on it made me hesitate. Why did it look like a weird cross between a hammer and a scythe? That doesn’t really sound like a functionable weapon at all.

Seeing that made me worry for the weapon that I hoped would be provided for me. Thankfully though, all the weapons I could find were at least 20 throwing knives of various sizes with a halters that fit perfectly on both my chest as well as one that strapped onto the inside of my left ankle. There was also a decent pocket knife as well as a knife for skinning. The only other possible weapons was a hatchet for cutting wood and a weird sphere that when I hovered on it in the inventory it only description was, and I quote, “A weapon. Conditions required to turn into weapon form.”

So in other words it was useless to me right now. Might as well keep it in my pocket though. Who knows what it’s conditions might be and I don’t want it to never change just because I refused to carry around an oddly weightless glowing purple sphere.

I felt at this point that I couldn’t procrastinate any further though and Sadie has been giving me the stink eye basically urging me to stop getting so distracted. So I then grabbed her hand muttering a sheepish, “Sorry” as we made our way in the general direction of the war front.
