017-Starting up Computer

“If we can connect the device to the computer, we could lessen the load on the device a bit.” VAS remarked as John waited for some mana to be restored. After resting for a while—though not much mana had been restored—John instructed the girl to go to the hole where the computer wire should come from and use the threads to begin fixing salvageable pieces. He then built a new cable link, beginning at the wall and progressively progressing to the gadget he and VAS designed.

As John worked, he conversed with VAS.

“Good idea, but should we create a converter to prevent us from getting harmed?” John points out the rare, if not unique, mana they inherited from the girl.

“No worries; I had examined the mana when the device was absorbing the mana from the generator. I came to discover that it is pure manacules—mana without any form. So it's completely safe… probably.” VAS informed John convincingly but ended up with an uncertain answer to John's question.

John felt helpless; he let out a sigh as he spoke. “Well, it either works or I die again… seriously…”

After completing the cable, the only thing left is to connect the cable to the device. John was at first a bit hesitant, but still, in the end, had the girl connecting them as the cable and device connected. A momentary burst of manacules that came from the point of contact of the cable and device ended up burning the girl's hands. John didn’t feel anything as the manacules didn’t enter the body. Only destroying the nanobots on the skin. John was relieved, though, and had the girl return to the computer while the nanobots regenerated and covered her skin again.

As John had the girl return, he could see the lights inside the room flickering on now and then, but they were mostly off, then on. As the girl moved to the window, John was surprised when the previous shut door opened up when the girl went past the door. Stopping her, he made her enter through the door.

As John entered the room, he had the girl look around in the meager light. Before, when they were in the room, he was only focused on what was visible from outside, only now having a good look at the room.

First, there were no chairs or desks. Second, the computer was a rectangle-like box attached to the ceiling, with no physical keyboard in sight. Third, there was a very silent humming in the room, probably prove that the room has power, as far as John could guess.

The box attached to the wall was the computer, according to John's understanding. John was confused, though. The computer had a glass screen, but the screen only took up the upper third of it, and two buttons were on the left side of it. One button stood out, and another was nearly looked over, if not for the circular groove that VAS pointed out for John.

It wasn't hard to figure out which switch was the on button. John had the girl press the switch that stood out. After being pressed, the computer's screen lit up, and to John's surprise, a bar at 99% appeared on the screen.
