The City ... Wall That Is

The City ... Wall That Is

The rest of the morning was relatively uneventful. The only thing of interest was the walls of what I assume to be a city coming into view just after cresting a small hill. This is most likely where those two ladies from yesterday came from. I immediately decide to make my way there. Not necessarily to go inside but because the guards should have taken care of any dangerous creatures that wondered to close to the city wall. I doubt they would bother with anything on my scale though so there should still be insects and the like to fight.

Sure enough, just as I start to approach the wall, I am attacked by a small, winged creature. It looks like a bat but is the size of a Horsefly. Unfortunately, I don't currently have any way to deal with flying opponents. I just have to hope it lands at some point and that I can capitalize on the opportunity when it does. After dive bombing me several times and even trying to pick me up at one point. It eventually seems to realize that it can't get through my shell and gives up. Obviously not willing to risk landing to confront me directly. I'm gonna count that as a win even if I didn't get any experience for it.

I continued to make my way around the city wall after that. The next encounter though caught me completely off guard as it was a creature so unlike anything I expected that I didn't register it as a creature until it attacked me.

Name Dew Drop Slime Level 2 Attack 2 Defense 4 Speed 2 Talents Strong Resistance To All Physical Attacks

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there are magical creatures in this world. The question is what do I do about it. Sure, it can't hurt me be I can't really do much to it either. It repeatedly slams its body into me. I'm not sure what it's trying to accomplish but clearly it is used to relying on its damage resistance. Each time it does I bite or claw at it. I have to do something after all, and those two attacks are literally all I've got. Gradually I start to realize that I am doing damage. Not a lot of damage but damage all the same. Then it dawns on me that having a strong resistance to something is a far cry from having complete immunity too something. The dew drop slime on the other hand doesn't seem to have figured this out. I'm guessing critical thinking isn't one of its strong suits. In the end it turned out to be the most one-sided fights yet even if it did take literal hours.

Defeated Dew Drop Slime Received Experience 2

Just two experience points for a fight that lasted multiple hours! That was ... not worth it. I know I should be happy to have such an easy target for XP farming but if every fight is going to take that long I'd have to spend all day fighting to gain any noticeable progress. I'm not asking for much, just something that can't hurt me, can be quickly killed, and provides a ton of experience. Then again at this point can I really afford to pass up safe experience points. Even if the fight does take a while. Ah well, since when has life ever been easy. As I'm thinking about this, I continue my journey around the city.

Not more than an hour later I run into what could be described as either the best or worst thing I could have found. Three dew prop slimes. While I do love risk free experience this fight is going to take forever. They're all level two with stats similar to the first one I encountered. "Great, there must be a nest nearby" I say sarcastically to nobody in particular. In truth I have no idea if they even have nests or anything about them really but that's not going to stop me from venting. If it wasn't for the fact that I do no damage to them three out of every four attacks, I'd be delighted to run across them. To be fair though I think I am doing damage it just takes four attacks to add up to a single unit of health worth of damage. The fight as expected while not exciting does take most of the rest of the day.

By this time, I don't even have the energy to care about the pop-ups that appear and close them immediately without reading them. After walking a short distance, I come to another gate. Either I'm faster than I thought, or this city is extremely small. Either way it hardly matters at this point. I'm so tired that I just huddle up as close to the wall as I can. I then use partially bury my shell so that it just looks like a rock and go to sleep. My hope is that the Sapient creatures will keep anything large enough to kill me in one hit from getting that close. Admittedly I am risking becoming someone's pet. I have to sleep somewhere though regardless.

The next morning, I wake up surprisingly refreshed. Shortly after that I start to notice things I hadn't before. For one thing the guards at the gate are very clearly not human. They both appear to be some kind of beast kin. What type I'm not entirely sure. With the ears though as well as the tails I'm leaning towards some type of dog or wolf kin. Another thing I noticed is that the path leading from this gate is much busier than the path I was on when I found this city. This is going to make getting across tricky. Thinking about it for a while I decide to turn and head back to the first gate. Dew drop slimes might be a pain in my shell but at least I know what I'm getting with them. Plus, they can't accidentally step on me.
