First Steps On A New Adventure

First Steps On A New Adventure

Ralette POV

I can't help but think about how insane the last lunar cycle has been. First a beast comes and kills most of the adults that were gathering food. Then it kills the adults guarding the territory. Just when I think it's the end for all of us it just leaves. I still remember how it looked at us, as if we weren't even worth making a meal of. I never felt so simultaneously relieved and insulted at the same time. Honestly until that day I didn't know it was possible to feel such contradictory emotions at the same time.

Just as we were stuck trying to figure out how to care for everyone with no elders left, we were dealt another blow. A group of green giants, I recently learned are called orc, attacked the giants who lived on the surface above our homes. Most of those giants I have since learned are called humans. The battle caused most of our tunnels to collapse. Ironically, we could have easily avoided that fate. It turns out we didn't need to hide. The giants of the surface would have accepted us. Even allowing us to live amongst them on the surface. If only the elders had not been so afraid to share that we had gained sapience. I suppose sapiens can't entirely overcome instincts though.

The craziest part though was what happened next. Just as I had almost given up hope I started feeling the footfalls of a beast so massive it shook the earth as it walked. I was convinced that it was here to devour anything that was left be it alive or dead. Then I felt it. A gentle voice calling out asking if anyone was hurt and offering to help. I say felt because it wasn't speaking yet I could still hear it. It was like a heavy blanket had been thrown over my head. After a brief conversation he agreed to take me and as many of the young as I could care for with him.

All at once the rubble started moving of its own accord. A few seconds after that I got my first look at our savior and my heart nearly skipped a beat. It was the same as the beast that had ravaged our colony only much much bigger. True I only got the occasional peek while hiding in the underground nursery but some things you don't forget. I mentally told myself that I needed to calm down. Just because it was the same species, to be honest given the size difference I'm not entirely certain of that, doesn't mean it has the same intentions. It did save me and as much of the young as I could care for.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Thinking about its size though, I did suddenly realize why the creatures mind seemed to have so much weight behind it. It was oppressive but at the same time I got the feeling it wasn't meant to be. I don't think the creature even realized how heavy his mental energy was. The mental presents did ease up a lot after we were all on board and settled in which I was grateful for. Theres no turning back now, not that there was any other option at the time.

Thomas POV

She doesn't seem to realize it was me that wiped out her colony's guards. Not that I bothered to ask. Why muddy the waters after all. I do regret attacking sapient creatures without at least trying to talk to them, but regret isn't going to bring anyone back. Besides it was their idea to continue behaving like wild animals, so it's not entirely my fault for treating them like wild animals.

For now, it's time to start thinking about the future. The two things my healing aura can't treat is exhaustion and malnutrition. Well three actually if you include dehydration. but my water manipulation can treat that if there is a water source nearby. After all my water manipulation specifically only targets water molecules. I suppose fish and other things could use their own means to stay within that water but why would they. For now, I think it's best to stick with my original plan and find some place to gather food.

After several hours I notice a forest in the distance. One that I never would have known existed if I had stayed in that the area where I was born/summoned/created, I'm still not entirely clear on that whole thing. The trees are much denser than the one near Eldenvale. I quickly inform Yuna who informs the others and a few of the adventurers soon form a hunting party. I decide to stay well back. One major drawback to being huge is that sneaking up on things isn't really an option and my skills are all relatively close-range attacks.

I do remind them to make sure the creature is dead before lifting it on board though. As much as I could exploit the XP farm of them cutting a piece of meat off every now and then and letting it be healed by my healing aura, no creature should have to suffer like that.

They don't return until early the next morning. I was starting to wonder if they would return at all. What they are carrying is the real shocker though, that is way more meat than they could possibly eat before it goes bad even with magical preservation methods. Not that I'm an expert on magical food preservation. They soon explain to Yuna that they plan to sell the extra meat at the next town or city and use that money to buy fruits and vegetables. A rather ingenious plan actually. Yuna for some reason then feels the need to explain everything to me despite me having heard everything already. I guess they all forgot that they were literally having this discussion on my back.

The good news, well good for me anyway, is that a few of them were injured during the hunt. not seriously but enough that I can get a few experiences from treating them. After quickly clearing dirt from a small area to allow them to lay directly on my shell that is.
