After waking, I start heading back to the city. I had hoped to fight another dew drop slime but I'm not sure which direction their territory is in or if they even have a set territory. So far aside from the ones at the city wall I've only ever encountered the one. Not that I plan to fight those again. I just don't want to get too far from the city just yet. My theory being that adventurers and city guards work together to keep the level of monsters nearby from getting too high.
I was a little nervous sneaking past where the pixy was, but she seems to have moved on. A little way further I find my first potential opponent of the day. I may need to be careful with this one. It shouldn't be able to get past my hard shell though.
Name Wolf Spider Level 5 Attack 10 Defense 5 Speed 6 Skill Venom Bite (active) inject a powerful toxin into the opponent's blood stream that slowly zaps away their health
Based on the stats I'd guess it relies almost entirely on its venom to do the bulk of the work. If it does manage to bite me, it will probably run away and just wait for me to die. Definitely going to have to watch out for that. Lucky for me nothing in this forest seems to have ever encountered a turtle so they always try to attack my center of mass. Taking advantage of the situation I reach out and bite one of its hind legs. To my surprise the leg snaps like a twig when I bite down. It's not severed but it's also not entirely useful anymore. Also surprising is that while it changes its stance to compensate for the injured leg it doesn't react in any other way. I can feel it crawling around on my shell looking for soft tissue to sink its fangs into. Eventually I see another leg place right in front of my face. Seizing the opportunity, I launch my beak forward and bite down. Just as quickly I withdraw my head back into my shell. This song and dance continues for a while and I'm able to injure another three of its legs. Then it happened. I launch my beak forward to bite another leg, but before I can fully retract my head, I suddenly feel a very sharp pain in my neck. Well, that can't be good.
I can feel my life slipping away one health at a time. My only hope is to end this fight fast and hope that leveling up can somehow save me. Assuming of course I was right about the reason I got that extra experience point last time. Then again if the opponent having a skill doesn't give me that extra experience point it won't really matter at this point. Not having any more time to waste I switch it up and go on the offensive. The wolf spider tries to step away and let the venom do its job just as I thought it would. Lucky for me with 6 of its 8 legs disabled I am easily able to keep up and even out maneuver it. Realizing it can't get away it does a rather valiant job of attempting to keep its fangs facing me. Fortunately, I can easily get around behind it and start biting its abdomen. It helps that the situation is forcing me to take risks I normally wouldn't consider taking.

Eventually I do manage to kill it.
Defeated Wolf Spider Received Experience 7
Now for the big question, will leveling up somehow save me?
Congratulations On Reaching Level 3 Please Choose Whether To Receive A New Skill Or Skill Points Equal To Your Level
Once again, I decide to acquire a new skill. For one I'm hoping that the skill selection isn't as random as it appears. I've also decided that now is the best time to stock up on skill since the amount of skill points I would get right now would be extremely low.
Selection Acknowledged Beginning Skill Roulette New Skill Acquired, Mirror Shield (reflect 10% of the incoming damage back at the attacker) Attribute Points Awarded Please Assign Them As Soon As Possible
Since there are three attribute points I decide to give all three stats a little boost this time.

A few things stick out to me right away. The first being how close I came to actually dying. The second is that Leveling up does appear to cure status ailments. I do wish it had also healed me but I'm still alive so I'll take what I can get. Aside from that, there is also the issue of my race having changed. Instead of a micro turtle I'm now listed as a mini turtle. Perhaps If I get a little bigger, I'll just be listed as a turtle. The question though is what I will eventually become. Especially as my growth seems to be accelerating.
Looking around now I feel like a giant. I know it's an illusion caused by me suddenly being almost twice as big as I was just a moment ago. It is a rather pleasant feeling none the less. Especially after feeling so small for so long. I choose to embrace this feeling for a little while longer.
Nothing lasts forever though, and suddenly I'm hit by two very important thoughts. The first of which is that right now I am practically at deaths door. The other equally terrifying thought is that there are significantly fewer places I can effectively hide to recover.
