Chapter 10: The Jungle: Part 3.

Vert leaps from tree to tree and the music that was once pulsating from his gauntlets is silenced. The Death God’s eyes go sharp and his presence turns hazy. Hawk looks at his master and sees that he is currently hunting some sort of prey.

Vert tries his best to erase his presence and decides to contain all of his latent energy to the inside of his body in hopes of sneaking up on his opponent.

As he goes from tree to tree, the limb he leaps from crumbles into dust as most of the forest has completely withered up. This is due to the pure, dense death energy that Vert put into the root system.

The visage of a giant flower soon comes into view. It’s stem is radiating a bright and lively energy as it tries to combat the death energy trying to devour the plants. At the head of the plant are 5 bright colored red petals and at the center of the plant seems to be a little girl, who is sleeping peacefully.

Vert looks at the little girl who is sleeping in the middle of the top of the flower. She has long green hair that turns into vines near the bottom, and leaves completely cover most of her fragile looking body. Vert assumes that this little girl is the Goddess of Life and might be his first truly challenging opponent.

The Goddess of Life’s face is flushed red and her breathing is heavy, like she is trying to fight off an intense headache in her slumber and life energy flows from her body into vines that lead into the giant flower she resides in.

The pure vitality of the flower and the Goddess of Life is nearly overwhelming to Vert and might actually give Vert some problems if he is not careful. If for any reason at all the girl’s vitality has more quantity than Vert’s Death Magic can handle, there might be some complications as Vert will be overpowered and quickly will blow up internally. This is because though Death Magic feeds off of Vitality, if too much Vitality is absorbed to the point that the vessel cannot hold anymore, the vessel will explode.

Vert assumes that this giant flower is being fed by the Goddess of Life’s energy and maybe isn’t even being controlled by the girl herself. A dubious plan formulates within the head of the God of Death and a smile spread across Vert’s face.

It would be like being forced to eat tons of food until you explode from the inside.

Using mental communication, Vert explains his plan to his Hawk, and Hawk’s eyes go wide when hearing this seemingly outrageous plan. Not giving time for his pet to respond on whether this plan is good or not, Vert throws the bird behind him, forcing Hawk to fly.

The last message Vert sends Hawk before the plan starts is ‘If you fail, I will no longer call you Hawk but instead Overgrown Chicken, so good luck.’.

Hawk flies into the distance, getting further and further from its expectant Master. Though Vert was able to snuff out the presence of the two before, since Hawk has separated from its master, the flower is now able to sense Hawk’s vitality.

Buds pop out from the stem of the flower as more vitality pipes down to feed the flower’s newest plan. Soon, tens of small plants form and release themselves from their mother. Vert recognizes these as the nuisances that constantly threw thorns at him.

The plants he dubbed as Bitch Ass Plants since they can only attack from a distance and are weak, they can also be referred to as Thorn Throwers, make their way towards Hawk. Vert lets the Thorn Throwers go by as he has dealt with most of them already and he is confident in Hawk’s part of the plan working.

Soon, he is once again let alone with the Goddess of Life and her Guardian Flower, and Vert realizes that now is his chance. He figured that the Guardian Flower had some tricks up its sleeve and essentially used Hawk as bait to figure out what those were while keeping himself hidden, but that was only part one of Vert’s plan.

Vert executes part two, and flexes his legs with intense amounts of power. His aim, the girl sitting within the petals of the flower. The God of Death’s eyes have a deadly glint and he explodes forward, using his innate physical capabilities to catch the plant off guard.

While exploding forward at speeds that most beings cannot react to, Vert is unable to keep his immense aura full of death contained and the Guardian Flower quickly picks up that something is wrong.

The head of the flower points towards Vert at speeds that nearly match his own. This slightly catches Vert off guard as usually nothing is able to react to his speed. He tries to stay calm and continue with what he had planned.

It doesn’t take long until Vert is nearing very close to the base of the Guardian Flower. It is about 80 feet tall and about 14 feet wide. As Vert is flying towards the base of the plant, he can sense danger and slams his right foot onto the ground, sending him upwards into the air.

Razor sharp roots explode from the ground and jutt out from where Vert was just heading to. Originally he had planned on attacking the base of the plant, however since he had to dodge the roots, he is now heading towards the middle of the plant.

Though he was confident in the fact he wouldn’t take too much damage from the roots, he was aware of the danger of the unknown. There was also what could possibly happen if the Guardian Flower pierced his skin at all and pumped vitality into him.

Though he is hurtling toward the middle of the flower, this doesn’t affect Vert’s plans too much.

Vert pulls back both of his fist to his chest with the intent of doing a double punch into the stem of the plant, effectively removing it from its roots. As Vert flies nearly head first into the dark green outer layer of the plant, he sends his two fists flying forward at the same time.

The fists seemingly split the air in half and the scream of the air being ripped reverberates throughout the whole forest. What usually comes after this scream is an explosion, however to Vert’s surprise, he watches as the part of the plant he was aiming at expands and opens up like a pathway in front of him.

The part that Vert’s fists were supposed to land on has split open and he flies right through the pathway opened up in the stem of the flower. He then continues to fly uncontrollably towards the wall of the room.

The Death God watches as the wall approaches faster than he anticipated and he slams into the wall, causing the whole dungeon to shake violently. Though the impact was hard and cracks spread throughout the wall like hundreds of spider webs, Vert is simply stunned by this ending.

He shakes his head back and forth while in his indent within the wall. Finally when his eyes focus, Vert can see a bright green ball of vitality charging within the 5 petals of the Guardian Flower.

Is… That a beam attack?

Several hundreds of beams have been sent at Vert throughout his time within this dungeon, and the reason he knows what they are called is always because the magician chanted the name very loudly every time. Usually they used this attack as their final ultimate move.

‘Is it really already using its final move? We have just started and you seem to be more fun than I initially thought Goddess of Life. Don’t make me go all out already too, there is no fun in that.’

The Guardian Flower seemingly isn’t able to read Vert’s thoughts and continues charging up the beam, with the intent to kill Vert with this one blow. Vert sees this and his head hangs dejectedly while he is still stuck to the wall.

“If that’s the way you want to go out, fine by me.”

Vert doesn’t remove himself from the wall as the Guardian Plant finally finishes charging up its beam attack. A loud shriek erupts from within the plant as if it was chanting the name of the beam as the pure vitality attack flies outwards and towards Vert.

Vert sighs as his speakers fire up once more and music pours out from within them. The beam reaches Vert before any melody is maintained and a bright green flash erupts outwards as the Vitality Beam hits Vert directly.
