Lenny walks with his head down, reading his book.
He is in the trees and hillside, outside of the city Ralph had been fighting in.
There was no time in After, but if there was, that had been sixth months before.
Lenny is not a soldier. He is a small Jewish male, walking amongst campgrounds in the country side, out of the city.
Robots walk among Lenny and the people, whether poor or persecuted or freedom fighters, in this make believe city.
The robots were something at first, Lenny thinks to himself.
Human like, but with shiny metal coverings and a strange grin. Ageless and sexless.
Lenny trips and almost drops his book.
Again, not a soldier.
So why am I here hunting anomalies?!
Lenny then thinks about his first target.
His first target was in a fantasy like castle that a sleeping dragon was wrapped around. No. Really.
The scaled dragon was more snake like than typical dragon, but still had sharp points coming from its face and tail.
The castle and dragon and surroundings were as generic as could be. Like a fantasy novel or a royal playing game.
You have to be kidding me.
The dragon slept, wrapped around the castle and its spires without crushing it, which rumbled as it breathed.
Lenny ran into the castle, dressed as a royal of sorts. He laughed when he first saw himself.
Not quite Shakespeare. Not quite Robin Hood. Something in between.
Knights and maidens walked past him, not caring about him.
Are they real? Do they see me? Is this world real to them as it is to me? It is as real as my universe was to me?!
Lenny shook his head, tripping over his garments.
Then, he saw his target.
A large, obese man was dressed as a mage and Merlin knock off, yelling in the middle of the court, and making up excuses about why a sleeping dragon was wrapped around the castle.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
Nobody listened.
Once their eyes locked, they knew they were both not where they were supposed to be.
"You are too late!"
The Merlin knock off began to open a portal across the generic, stone castle.
Lightning and flashes came from it.
The Merlin cosplayer ran towards the portal.
“Stop!” Lenny had yelled.
Merlin then shot his wand of power at Lenny…trapping him midair.
Lenny kicked and swung as he floated in air, like a stuffed animal being tossed.
The Merlin knock off chuckled.
“You’re being used. You are a pawn. You know you want back. Out of this After nonsense.”
“You can’t go back!” Lenny yelled.
“Why not?!” Merlin said.
Merlin then turned to go through the portal he had made.
“You don’t know where that goes,” Lenny said, still floating.
“It’s back to our universe.”
“No, it’s not.”
Lenny didn’t know for sure.
But, then again, he kind of did.
Some people were given weapons in After.
Others talents and skills and powers. Some knowledge. Some were just so good they weren’t really given anything.
Lenny was given something special. It looked like a light switch.
Literally. A light switch on a small box.
To some, it was nothing.
It was probably the most powerful item in After.
Lenny pulled the light switch out and flicked it.
The portal closed.
The Merlin screamed in anger and dropped Lenny, who hit the ground hard.
Lenny put the switch away, making sure it wasn't seen.
“What happened?!” The Merlin knock off screamed, angry. “I spent decades. A lifetime. Wha- “
Someone dressed as a knight then ran up and brutally stabbed the Merlin with a dagger.
Lenny was horrified. Literally. A random knight came up and murdered the guy.
The knight then nodded at Lenny.
“Nicely done, mate.”
Jarrah. A crazy killer in After. Everyone knew him.
Most had feelings and questions about this new life and existence.
The crazy Australian brought into After thought it was cool he had a license to kill, and that he could do it for an eternity.
Lenny just nodded at Jarrah, shaking his head at the whole situation.
Then, he evaporated out of the medieval world.
Lenny had been brought to this war torn city ever since, aimlessly wandering.
A beautiful woman walks up to Lenny. Dania smiles at Lenny beneath her hijab head covering.
“Lenny. Someone is looking for you.”
“Hi Dania. Who?”
“He’s a legend around here. His name is Ralph.”
