Change a NEW BEGINING

Change a NEW BEGINING

Hey everybody, this is the Author of Magic and Chaos.

This novel started as an idea based on an essay I had to write for college English. In it, a vigilante character hunts criminals and thieves like a man hunts an animal. " He lay there against the branch soaked by the rain, watching as his target sipped his whiskey, never knowing that crosshairs had marked his death."

From there, I wrote a prologue and a few chapters about a child who was bored with the world around him and sought thrills by hunting criminals. He would then find a hidden magical world for him to explore and continue his adventures. After a year of writing, procrastination, and a few house moves, I have finally written nine chapters of the beginning, where the characters leap into a new world of music.

And now I am concerned.

I thought that having my character start out this way was unique and cool, but looking back on it, I'm concerned that I started him off too strong. I still like the character and plan to have the rest of the novel be the same, but the beginning has me wondering if this was the character's right starting point.

So, I came up with a new starting point for Issac. Whether I use it or not is unknown, but I will write the synopsis for you guys to read, and you can let me know what you think in the comments.

This is also a point for you guys to let me know about anything else you guys have questions about, such as my writing style, chapter lengths, and whether you want titles for the chapters.

Thank you for being so supportive. Until I have a full idea of what I want to do, I'll hold off on writing any new chapter, but I will leave character pages for those who have shown up so far.

Here we go

Isaac walked down the empty halls, Dragging his feat as he made his way to the consular office. This was his first time heading there this month, and he was starting to get tired of it. It was already the last week before graduation. Couldn't they leave him alone already? Nothing they said changed anything, so what was the point?

Isaac had to stop and wipe the blood off his lip.

Damn, that guy just came out of nowhere, he thought, but that was a good fight. Most people wonder why he annoys and bothers those guys. Is it anger, jealousy, or maybe a bad home environment?

Nope. He's just bored.

His life is boring; all it is is to wake up, eat, go to school, and then go home. Nothing happens; it's the same every day with little change thrown in. Does Isaac have friends? Of course, he does, but no amount of friends will change what a bore this place was. They were like the side dish of a plate; everyone loves fries, but no amount of fries will change just how bad the cubed steak is.

Lubbock, Texas, had to be the driest, chewiest cubed steak. This town, somehow, happens to be one of Texas's ten largest cities, yet it still has nothing going for it. Nothing fun happened here; all Lubbock has are either hotels or restaurants, nothing else. So the only thing that left him was fighting, the way his adrenaline pumps when his fist punches some guy's nose when their fists hit his cheeks.

There's nothing else like it.

Ever since his first fight back in third grade, he's been finding new ways to get into more. And now, at the end of 7th grade, he's pretty much got it done to a science.

Which was also why he was called down to the consular many times. He tried not to cause any fights while he was at school for his parents. But those guys were just too easy to rile up. Just show them his usual charming personality, and they throw the first punch within five minutes or less.

Have you ever been on a roller coaster when the lights go out? When there are no lights, you feel everything on the track, your gut starts anticipating the drops, and your ears go deaf from the noise around you. That's what a fight was like for Issac; he couldn't get enough of that high. When he is in the middle of a fight, Issac feels like he's at the top of the world.

This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

And then it ends, and he crashes right into the floor of the real world, where everything is grey, and the consequences of our actions follow us like the plague. And right now, Issac is wondering if the consequences may be too steep of a price. He hated having to come to the consular; just seeing her from across the hall ruined his day, and now he had to sit with her.

One more week, it was one more week, and he never had to see her again. One more week, and he was off to high school. But seeing those guys at their table, the temptation is too much. After Friday, he might never see them again, and he couldn't let them go without a proper goodbye.

But now that he is in front of her door, Issac wonders if the fight was worth seeing her during the last week of school.

She was just so annoying.

" Hey, Isaac, come on in; I have some cookies already for you." Like he said, annoying.

" Hey, Ms. Margrave." Issac drawled out.

" Now, none of that. Call me Anna; we've been together so much that we are practically family." She smiled at him as she pulled a seat for him.

"- Ok, Anna." Isaac had to stop himself from saying anything else. He knew from experience that she wouldn't take anything but Anna.

" Well, now that I have you here, tell me how you have been doing. What's new? Is your mother still taking care of that flower I sent?" For the next twenty minutes, Ms. Mar-Anna talked. Sometimes, she pulled him in to answer. Other times, she waited, getting him to talk about What he had been up to and how yesterday was such a stormy day. And man, he couldn't stand her.

She was just too nice.

Isaac didn't know how to deal with nice people. He could handle rough, sarcastic people; those people are fun to talk to. With a snappy comeback and a few jokes, you soon have a fool group of friends to laugh with. He could talk with those kinds of people for hours or until they got tired of him.

That's how his family was. His Tios and Tias, Grandpas and Grandmas, sisters and cousins acted like that. The Gratis family was a loud and rude family, and they liked it that way.

But you put him before a genuinely nice person, and he clams up. He can't joke with them; if he upsets one of them, then he feels like the bad guy. Fighting is out of the question; there's nothing to fight about, and they never get angry to start a fight with either. So, the only thing left was to be silent.

"- Oh, before I forget, the reason why I called you here." That made Isaac's ears perk up. Finally, this hell would end.

" Yeah, listen about those guys-."

" I've meant to talk to you about where you'll go to high school." Getting up from her chair, Anna reached around her desk and pulled out a folder.

" What?" Isaac was confused. Was this not bout the four guys in the nurse's office?

" Yes, I do not think you have chosen where you want to go. There are many schools to choose from, and it's better to do it now than later." Anna smiled at him, putting her curly hair into a messy bun to avoid it getting in the way.

Okay, so it wasn't what he thought. But that's okay, as long as he wasn't going to slip through another lecture about the importance of making friends. Looking at the papers offered to him, Issac saw the different schools he could choose from. The best one should be the closest one, right? Although the school everyone will go to is a little farther, it'll be less of a hassle than trying to start over with new people. He's already comfortable with the people he knows now; there is no reason to change that.

With his decision made, Isaac went to sign the papers, knowing that his parents didn't mind what he chose. But for some reason, Isaac couldn't bring himself to sign his name. Was it just going to be the same thing, day in and day out, another year of boredom?

It's not like he could change it right away. He had to do this until he was eighteen; there was no other option.

Right?

Anna saw his indecisiveness and spoke up. " What is wrong? Is there not a school that you like?"

"No, it's-it's nothing." Isaac couldn't bring himself to say what he was feeling. There wasn't anything anybody could do; the only thing left was to put up with another year of boredom.

" Come on, Isaac. There's no reason to be so down." Crouching down, Anna looked into Isaac's eyes. It is okay if none of these schools fit you; I had a feeling that they wouldn't. You're special."

That gave Isaac a pause. The way she said that sounded off.

Usually, when someone says you're special, they mean it in a normal way. But Anna's words almost made it sound like she knew.

" No, it's okay." Isaac tried to say, for the first time Isaac wasn't thinking about how nice she was.

" Nonsense. In fact, I know of a school that would be great for you. Do you want to see it?" Isaac thought it was her smile; the way she smiled made it seem as if she knew more than she was letting on.

If she knew, then maybe-.

Not trusting himself to speak, Isaac just nodded his head.

Smiling her usual smile, Anna went behind her desk and opened it. Out of her drawer, she pulled out a key. The key was golden bronze in color and glittered in the light. The top of the key was fat and bulbous, almost looking like a door knob. The teeth of the key were just two simple prongs extending an inch of the key.

" Well then, let me show you the Garden." She said.

That was a part of a change to the story I wanted to make. As you can see, the being has a different feel than before, but I wanted to keep the base of the story the same with the MC traveling to the Garden and having his adventure.

Let me know your thoughts and if you want me to change them.
