Chapter 31

There are never really simple choices when it comes to life. It just plays out how it wants, and there's nothing you can do about that. Both of them knew this, and they took it on confidently. As both sat in the back of the taxi, their hearts raced at the thought of a better future, especially when they had each other. As she looked out the window, unsure of where they were going, he couldn't take his eyes off her. And while she wondered if her heart was ready when she didn't want to lose another person. He sat confidently, ready to throw away everything to have her, to be what his father wasn't. When she would finally turn from the window, he would pull her hand into his.

When they finally arrived, he asked her to wait, helping her from the taxi. He quickly opened the door, holding it for her. He was trying to win her heart more and more, but there was something that was holding her back. Kai took her hand, pulling Jennie from the car before starting their walk. She enjoyed that the weather had not gotten bad, the sun shining nicely on both of them. It was refreshing. She smiled softly at him as he let go of her hand, pointing to the area that they needed to get to. His hands went in his pockets, and she couldn't help but wonder if they should hold hands.

The two reached the entrance of Yeouido Park, and he watched the surprise on her face. She looked at the trees, her eyes savoring the moment. She loved the pink leaves that rained on the ground. He walked backward, a grin on his face. Kai stuck his hand out, waiting for her to take it. She wanted to hesitate, but her hand went to him. He took it, walking down the sidewalk through the pink petals. She listened as he began to talk, asking her questions. He was trying to keep a normal conversation, but she just couldn't get the fight out of her mind.

Jennie listened as he talked about the books he read, them being able to connect on reading the same ones. Kai held in his excitement, his admiration for her growing strong. Jennie pushed her heart, accepting all of his charms. She enjoyed his subtle and seductive winks and his shy laugh. Her thoughts were trying to focus on him, enjoying being around someone and growing closer to someone. Kai looked at her with adoring eyes, wanting to make her fall as hard as he could. He was in love, but he couldn't tell her yet. As he hid his feelings through his charming smile, his heart bursting at every connection

Jennie smiled at his every attempt, and she was building up the courage to jump. He was making it so easy, but should she take it? Taking a look at the ground, she pretended to be in awe of the petals on the ground. Her heart was leaning toward him; that was simple. She felt it when he smiled, when he laughed, and even when they talked. It was starting to feel weird, and this was a feeling that she hadn't felt in a while. For the past few years, her heart has always felt empty. But now, when she looked at him, there was something in there. She finally felt like her heart was filling itself with him.

As the day continued, the sky grew dim. The night became cooler as the two enjoyed their time together. Kai was living on a cloud, her attention staying on him. His thoughts were consumed by looking at her face, and he could feel his heart jumping at every smile she made. That was all he wanted, to keep her smiling. He tried keeping his cool, his heart and brain excited to stay in her presence. He noticed she began to rub her arms, taking off his jacket quickly. He placed it over her shoulders, straightening the long sleeves he was wearing.

"What if you're cold?" She looked up at his smiling face.

"I'm okay." He smiled, his hands going in his pockets.

She smiled at the warm gesture. She felt bad; his jacket was warm and smelled like him. The sweet cologne filled her nose, and she wanted to lay against it. She had been forcing her heart open, but she continued to worry that something would go wrong. She looked at him standing there, wondering if he was cold. She looked at his hands, having the urge to pull the one closest to her. She wanted to try; she had failed at making any move before, and now this was it. Her thoughts consumed her, and he noticed. He noticed her fight with herself, her eyes darting at each decision she tried to make.

"Ah, let me warm your hands." He said, taking her hands into his. He put them in the jacket pocket, using it as an excuse to be closer.

She felt her heart rushing; thoughts of what this would lead to coming over her. She had not thought about what the future would hold, but now she wondered. She looked up at him, his eyes soft and full of charm. She was falling, but did she need to catch up? She wondered how far he had fallen and if she was not going fast enough. The two continued to walk, getting closer along the river. Her thoughts were soon brought to an end when they walked upon a market. He watched her look at the different items, waiting patiently for his chance.

Everything in him fell for her: his brain, his heart, and his body. His brain continuously played images of her, his feelings intensifying. His heart was moved by the sound of her voice, the smiles she carried on her lips, and even the soft eyes that showed her pain. His body was willing to give up everything for her, and he was willing to show it. As she scanned each market stand, unaware of his eyes following only her, she smelled the food that was nearby. Her stomach growling, giving him the chance he wanted.

Without hesitation, he took out his wallet. Ordering food for the two of them, her smile was enough of a reward. He watched her eat the skewer, smiling as she squealed in excitement at its flavor. She was enjoying her time, taking small glances at him while they ate and continued their walk. Jennie pushed herself forward, trying to spark more conversations between the two. They had not talked about many things, and she was genuinely interested in knowing more about him.

Kai held out hope. His thoughts had been to avoid conversations about family. His hope was to make sure that her time with him was never dull. He wanted to make sure that when they were together, she was never sad or unhappy. He knew that the conversation would come up, but he hoped it wouldn't be today. She wanted to hold her tongue. Her thoughts told her that it wasn't important, but when she looked at him, she couldn't help it. He knew so much about her, and she felt like she didn't know enough about him. Her eyes looked at the ground, gathering the courage she wished she had more of.

"What's your family like?" The question almost made him stop walking. He looked at her, their eyes not meeting.

"Okay." He responded, looking up at the river. Her eyes slowly dragged to his, wondering what he meant. He turned for a moment, letting their eyes lock before glancing back towards the river. "What do you want to know?" He asked.

She wasn't sure. There were many things that she wondered. All her life, people were afraid to talk about their parents around her, and she wondered about his. She looked at his face, which seemed to hold many secrets when the subject was not about her. As they continued to walk, she wasn't sure what she wanted to ask. She wondered why he would never mention them, her thoughts trailing off. He could see the wall being built back up.

"My dad owns a company, and my mom works from home." She looked at his face, staring off into the distance; he continued. "Never really had a close relationship with them. No siblings except Monggu." He smiled at the mention of Monggu, turning towards her. "You won't see me as some spoiled rich kid now, right?" He asked with a laugh.

She shook her head, her eyes not faltering from his. He took her hand, smiling at the thought while they walked. As the two walked up to a street performer, they noticed a few couples dancing to the song that was on. She felt his hand pull her along, going off to the side of the performer. He took her hands lightly, placing them on his shoulder before getting in his dancing stance. Jennie tried hiding her bashful face as he began moving her along. She couldn't help but smile, soon stretching and transforming into a laugh.

He listened to her laughs; the sound was better than the music that played. Jennie continued her bursts of laughter at each dance, and she was surprised at how good he was. She found herself becoming surprised and wanting to cheer for him. He held on to her with every move, being careful not to hurt her. He embraced the moment; her laughter filling the air was more refreshing than the breeze.
