Sergeant Ava and Mia patrolled the west parts of HP and had to check on the Granday restaurant while Sheriff Becket was on his way to the smoke trails into the forest.
It seemed urgent, and the sheriff was sensitive about his job.
“Sergeants, please remember, do not take sides and...”
“And always remain vigilant.” Ava and Mia completed Kate’s warning on the radio.
“And please take care, alright?” Kate said it kindly.
“Don’t worry, Mom, we got this. Just have a cup of coffee and relax while we do what we do best.” Ava answered Kate, then turned off the radio.
“Poor girl always feels worried for other cops after what happened to her,” Mia said as she drove at high speed.
“Yeah.” Ava said and nodded. “You know, we could’ve done both,” she continued.
“What do you mean?” Mia asked.
“We could’ve checked on the smoke, then see what’s what in Granday; it’s not like they would’ve escaped.” Ava sounded disappointed.
“You know William Ava. He just wants to have our backs; he feels responsible after what happened to Kate.” Mia tried to convince Ava.
“Yeah, but we ain’t Kate. I mean, come on, she always seemed like, ”
“Like a weak girl who will die on her first mission on the field?” Mia said the rest of what Ava had in mind with utter seriousness.
“That wasn’t what I wanted to say.” Ava tried to defend herself, but it was like convincing her that chocolate milk comes from brown cows.
“That was exactly what you meant, and because of that, you, Miss Ava, are going to buy her hot donuts when we get back to the station and tell her how strong and beautiful she is.”
Mia spoke strongly and considered this matter over.
“Well, she is beautiful... hot even,” Ava said under her breath, blushing.
“So, you have a crush on her,” Mia said, trying to tease Ava.

“Please don’t tell her, not yet, please.” The tough cop looked like a shy baby girl all of a sudden.
“OK, alright, but you will buy her donuts and tell her how great she is,” Mia said.
“I know”
Two sergeants parked in front of the Granday restaurant.
“Granday was closed due to management problems, my ass,” Ava said as she read the sign on the door and got inside.
Anna and her family, along with their newest member, Paul, were cleaning up the bloody mess.
“Hi Ava, hi Mia, what brought you two here?” Anna asked and stopped whipping the floor.
“Drop the act, Anna. We need to approve the human you adopted and talk about this place’s future,” Mia said.
“I didn’t adopt Paul; he is my fiancée. We are about to get married. Please be more respectful; we didn’t break any law,” Anna said calmly.
“That’s true, but still, we got to check him to see if he has paid,” Mia said, taking out her judgment dagger.
“Anna, you are always full of surprises. You are officially the first chaos demon to not just make love to a human but to marry one. Damn girl, this is something else.” Ava was amused.
Paul brought his right hand toward Mia, and she cut the palm of his hand. The judgment dagger whispered some unrecognizable words and remained still. Paul was approved.
“Well, congrats, Paul. You are a Heaven’s Peak citizen now, and you can marry Anna, but no children will always remember that.” Mia said, and she sheathed the judgment dagger without cleaning it.
“So, when are we invited?” Ava said.
“Oh, my dear Ava and Paul are going to get married tonight in this very restaurant. You can join us after midnight. It’s a small party, but there is free food and our famous pancakes. Besides, after our massacre video went viral in the outer world, we would be out of business if we didn’t have anything new to share with our human customers.” Anna said her eyes were locked on Paul and filled with love.
“We’ll be here if nothing comes up,” Ava said.
“About that video,” Mia said and cleared her throat, then continued, “Anna, Becket gave you this place because you and your family can provide human flesh for the western parts of HP’s demons, but if they are terrified of this place, then as you said, you’ll be out of business. They won’t come here. So either stick to the traditional way and kill one or two of them each week without anyone noticing or come up with something to tell Becket.”
“Don’t worry, Mia. Paul and I will make this work. I mean, look at us; we killed enough for a month to feed the rest.” Anna sounded excited.
“Ma’am, I’m new to this, but Anna is right, and I am familiar with how effective social media can be, and we can score more kills even with the massacre video going viral,” Paul said confidently.
“For your own sake, I hope it works,” Mia said.
Mia and Ava got on their way to their car.
“Hope I can make it tonight, Anna; wish me luck and congratulations,” Ava shouted as they were getting outside of the Granday.
“You are truly happy for them,” Mia told Ava as they got in the car.
“Yeah, I mean, love is always welcomed; Becket agrees too, and it’s the one law that was never written,” Ava said with a warm smile on her face.
“One moment you act like a tough bitch, and one moment you act like the most romantic gal I know,” Mia said, starting the engine.
“Sergeants, do you copy?” Kate radioed them.
“Yeah, what is it, Kate?” Mia asked.
“You got to hurry. Becket’s orders. Meet him in the forest near the orphanage, keep an eye out for any kid trying to escape, and stop them by any means necessary,” Kate said.
“Shit,” Ava said, turning off the radio.
