--* Fenlei City, Fenlei Military Brigade Headquarters *--
Creatures collapsed one by one as multiple bangs filled the air. Blood dripped down into a puddle as it seeped through the hole drilled into their heads.
*Bang*
Another shot rang out into the air as a mutated human fell. Beasts, plants or humanoid; it did not matter, as they all died a similar end. Whistles filled the air as holes were dug into the heads of the monsters. One. Two. Three. Every shot claimed the life of a creature.
Inside the wall, Personn could only gape at Nik’s skills. The two of them have been tucked inside for over three hours. Nik’s initial supply of ammunition was long gone, but soldiers kept appearing to restock his collection. None of them were wasted whatsoever, as each of his shots claimed the lives of multiple mutated creatures.
Red eyes continually scanned the battlefield, ignoring the dead corpses that have collected in front of the wall. Though hundreds, perhaps even thousands have already fallen to Nik’s hands, the waves of monsters did not decrease at all as others filled in the empty spots. In fact, they are advancing at a snail’s pace. Though slow, they were still approaching. It was only a matter of time before they would arrive before the wall.
“Nik, that’s enough. It’s approaching night. We’ll go back to the Headquarters so you can get some rest,” Personn’s voice interrupted his concentration. Pulling his eyes back from the scope, Nik sighed and stood up from his prone position. As he did so, Personn examined him, admiration filling his face.
Nik lightly nodded, as he placed the rifle on his back, its length was almost as tall as him. Red eyes fell upon Personn. Facing Nik’s eyes, beads of sweat began to roll down his back; it was as if the Devil was staring directly into his soul, waiting to feast on it.
“Let’s go…” he ordered, quickly turning around and walking towards the stairs. Nik followed suit.
*Dddiiinnnnggg* (I don’t know, I suck at writing out sounds)
A loud sound suddenly echoed throughout the Headquarters; those inside the Wall were almost defended though to the echoes of the metal. Lights that provided for the snipers and outside in the Headquarters turned red, giving out an eerie glow.
“Shit, that’s the Emergency bell, what the hell happened?” Personn immediately began to worry. The bell only sounded out when the whole Brigade and Headquarters are in massive danger. The only other occasion it has been used was when an unidentified explosive was dropped into the courtyard. The explosive missile had claimed the life of over three hundred soldiers, but other than that event, the Brigade did not face any other disasters worthy of the signal. Until today that is.
As he was worrying, a voice filled the air along with the blaring horn, “Attention all personnel! The mutated creatures have reached the wall and had broken into the courtyard. All personnel are to evacuate into the Underground Shelter. The doors will close once the mutated have reached the Headquarters. It will be closed no matter who is left outside as to prevent any mutated creatures from entering. I repeat…”
When Personn heard the announcement, his face instantly paled. The Brigade had been hoping that the wall would be able to hold back the mutated creatures for at least another day. They did not imagine that it would be ripped to shreds like tofu. Gripping his sword, he quickly ran down the stairs along with Nik. No one wanted to be stuck outside with a titanic amount of mutated creatures.
Panic was written all over Nik’s face as he descended. Shooting monsters at a distance was very different compared to directly battling them. He could not imagine that he could keep his life once he actually faces one of the creatures outside. Tightly gripping the gun in his hands, his face steeled with determination. It was to kill or be killed.
….
Blood rained down upon the courtyard, where masses of soldiers and monsters faced each other. Cries of alarm and anger constantly rang out as bodies fell to the ground, where they laid unmoving. Blood dripped unto blood. Flesh was cut, heads were shot.
It was a massacre.
Though the soldiers had held the advantage before, that was on top of the wall. Now they faced the monsters they had rained hell down on before. Within the slaughter, two people quickly ran: one held a sword, while the other grasped a sleek sniper rifle. They were Personn and Nik.
Constantly weaving between masses of soldiers, and cutting down crowds of monsters, the two of them advanced towards the Headquarters. Heads of monsters fell as Personn swung his sword, while those from afar were drilled through by Nik’s bullets. Never staying in one place for a long period of time, they continued to advance.
“Nik!” a lovely voice was raised throughout the yells of pain and anger.
Nik’s ears easily picked it up, as he slowed his sprint into a light jog as he looked around for the one that had called him, a slight mist came from his mouth as he breathed deeply while searching. Finally, his eyes caught sight of Jasmine. Behind her were Hudsonn and three other soldiers who were escorting the two.
“What are two doing out here? Who gave you permission to leave the Headquarters?!” Personn yelled in rage, as his sword swung for the umpteenth time, decapitating another Stage One mutate. It was as if he was the Harbinger of Death on the battlefield. Naturally, many monsters began to fear him, yet they could not go against their wrathful instincts.
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
“Teehee,” Jasmine shifted her head and struck it lightly, her tongue was stuck out as she looked at Personn.
Veins began to appear on his forehead, “Hah… Now’s not the… time, hurry up and get to the Shelter, it’ll be safe… there,” he said, though his sentence was broken up as he paused to decapitate monsters one after another.
Fate was not kind however. Just as the company of seven was about to sprint towards the Headquarters, a terrifying howl echoed out from the wall. A moment later, a gigantic wolf leaped into the courtyard, its crimson red fur shone a soft light under the crimson skies. Piercing white eyes stared out at the masses of humans and monsters battling. Within a blink of an eye, a streak of red charged forward. Any being it touched was turned into meat paste, no matter if it was friend or foe.
The red streak began to slowdown as it approached the group of seven, who could only gape in fear. Shock filled their face as the red wolf stared at them; hunger in its eyes as it stared at Nik and company.
A Stage Four Beastial, Crimson Wolf. If the difference between the strength of a Stage One and a Stage Three was a step, then the difference between a Stage Three and a Stage Four was a massive leap. It could easily overpower thousands of ordinary soldiers, and finish them all off with only minor injuries. Right now, Nik’s group is facing this kind of monster.
“All of you retreat! I’ll hold—“ before Personn could complete his sentence, a flash of red went pass him and headed towards the three new recruits. Using his amazing reaction speed, Nik quickly jumped away from the tail rushing towards him, suffering only the buffet of wind that came afterwards.
The other two however, were not quite as lucky. Two bodies flew through the air as a massive tail smacked towards them; the sound of cracking bones and pained yells echoed out. Limp bodies crashed down into the soaked dirt, a splash spread out as they smashed into puddles of red.
“Goddamn it!” an enraged yell emanated from Personn’s throat as he lunged towards the wolf, sword raised over his head, a layer of vibrating air covered it. Before the wolf could react, the sword was already swinging down; a faint ringing could be heard as it struck like a meteor.
A yelp escaped the wolf’s mouth, but it was only that. Though the force of the sword struck deep into the wolf’s body, the actual sword could not even pierce through the crimson fur. The vibrating air, which seemed like the chains of a saw before, had completely dissipated, unable to even remotely injure the wolf.
Personn’s pale face had gotten even paler, as he let go of the piece of metal in his hands. A clank rang out as it fell towards the ground. The Crimson Wolf’s face distorted, as if it was sneering at the man before him. Without waiting, its claws ripped through air and beheaded paled man. His head spun in the air and landed with a thud before Nik.
There was only one thought in his head. Run.
Quickly turning towards the Headquarters, Nik sprinted forward with all his might, abandoning the bodies of his friends, superior and fellow soldiers behind. Labored breaths came from his mouth as he worked his legs to their utmost limits. It did not matter how quickly he ran however. The Drill Sergeant’s evaluation remained: Nik had sub par physical abilities.
Within the span of a few minutes of running, he had run only a quarter of the courtyard, whilst avoiding the attacks of mutated creatures or circumventing intense battles.
It was as if the past had come back to haunt him. Running away from another monster left a bitter taste in his mouth, yet he could do nothing about it. Many people had already died including his friends, what made him so special as to miraculously survive from the wolf slowly striding towards him. Before he knew it, a red blur passed him, bringing a wild wind smashing into his back.
Unable to steady his exhausted body, Nik fell forward with a thud. As he raised up, blood dripped down from a gash on his forehead. His face grimaced in pain, but his eyes contained a resolute look, unwilling to accept his fate of death. A wish could not change reality however, as the wolf raised its claws high in the air. Without waiting another second, it struck down.
Mutated Report 2
In the previous report, we have discussed the four types of Mutated Creatures: Beastial, Plantkind, Humanoid and Ancient. In truth, they are not the only types of mutated however. There are two other types that exist, though they are rare, they still exist. The three types are Elemental and Mystical.
Elemental Mutated are the parts of the planet that have been thoroughly drenched in the Blood Rain. The reason why they are different from Plantkind mutates are due to the fact that they are simply masses of matter that have somehow gained conscience through the powers of the Blood Rain. Though they are rarer than the other types of mutated, due to the amount of blood that they have absorbed, Elementals are often very powerful, capable of controlling whatever matter they are made of. Due to their unique abilities and personal power, Stage One Elementals are actually as powerful as a Stage Four normal mutated. A well known example is the Stage Ten Arctic Emperor.
The other type of mutated are the Mystical Mutates, all powerful beings who are capable of using magic similar to those of Mystics. Humans are not the only ones bestowed the ability to use Mysticism. Various animals and even some of Earth’s features were bestowed the ability as well. Once the rain had infected them, they naturally became mutates. Due to the rarity of even acquiring Mystical powers, these types of mutates are the rarest, but also are the most powerful entities on Earth just below the Ancient mutates.
