Hazard Lands Revenge
Chapter 4 – Disaster
Author’s Notes – I need to stop reading, I already barely have time to write .-. I get distracted too easily. Chapter is 1.8k words; everything keeps getting shorter and shorter lol. Thanks for reading!
Any similarities between this novel with the real world, other fiction and events are purely coincidental.
EDIT: Uploads will slow down to every other day. Expect the next chapter on Saturday, Philippine time. As for 10/19-10/24, there will be no chapters at all, as I have college Final exams.
Enjoy!
--* Fenlei City, Fenlei Military Brigade Headquarters *--
In the massive courtyard, along with hundreds of soldiers were three new members: Nik, Jasmine and Hudsonn.
“Run faster maggots! If you don’t finish ten laps around the field, you’ll drop a hundred! Am I clear!?” a yell continued to pierce the air, attracting the pitiful gazes of many surrounding soldiers.
Around the perimeter of a small field in the courtyard were three figures sprinting, as if their lives depended on it. They took massive gulps of air every chance they could, to fuel their ever tiring bodies. Sweat dripped from their bodies like waterfalls, satiating the parched ground.
“I can’t… keep… doing this…” Hudsonn breathed out, his seemed as if it was about to collapse.
“…” Nik stayed quiet, focusing on keeping his exhausted legs moving.
“You guys are seriously tired? Hurry up already, I don’t want to be the only one with the Drill Sergeant,” Jasmine looked back at the two pitiful boys, a miniscule amount of sweat had collected on her forehead, yet she did not seem tired whatsoever.
“How… are you… not tired!?” Hudsonn yelled in rage, his pride broken into pieces as he glared at her small body from behind. Most guys would leer at her, but his eyes were only filled with the desire to beat her during training.
Meanwhile, a golden eyed man approached the Drill Sergeant, a faint smile on his face as he watched the three run around the field.
“Ah, Lieutenant Colonel, what brings you to my field today?” the man who was yelling earlier greeted, his face had a wild smile as he forced the three recruits to suffer.
“I’m curious at how they sizing up against your tor- ehem… training methods,” James replied.
“Hah, so it’s for those three huh… It’s already been three since they have arrived. So far, I’ve trained their bodies to their breaking points and assigned a Healer to take care that no permanent damage occurs. The girl by far surpasses the other two in endurance, flexibility and speed, though her strength is quite lacking. As for that big guy intensely staring at said girl, his strength is very explosive. He has potential to join the Tiger Battalion member. The other kid’s physical abilities are average at best compared to other soldiers, but what truly scares me is his accuracy during sniper practice: a terrifying one hundred percent accuracy,” the sergeant explained, his eyes staring at Nik in admiration.
Despite having never held a gun, it seems like Nik holds a natural affinity with sniping. No matter the range, no matter the obstacles, no matter the target movement speed, his mind easily calculates all factors in sniping to hit every target right in every fatal area. A natural monster.
“Hmm… I guess it’s time to test whether they’re illegible for a promotion eh?” James smiled, his eyes glinted with enthusiasm.
The Drill Sergeant shivered, remembering his promotion test. Special to the Third Tribulation Brigade, all soldiers aiming for promotion are tested by the Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel. Every soldier in the Brigade constantly fear being noticed by the two of them, unwilling to do any of the promotion tests.
Every single one of the tests are unique, aiming to challenge the recruit based on his strengths and weaknesses. Snipers are forced to shoot targets hundreds to thousands of yards away. Infantrymen are forced to wage large scale wars with each other, each battle lasting for days, even weeks. These are only small examples of the terrifying tests the pair of devils have created.
And now, the three new recruits will face them, only a few days into the military.
….
“Today, we will be able to watch three new recruits, Private Nik Morris, Private Jasmine Griswall and Private Hudsonn Moulic, take the promotion tests created by our two leaders, Colonel Myers Brown and Lieutenant Colonel James Lambert. May luck favor their bullets and destiny aid their aim,” an announcer voiced, attracting the attention of countless soldiers.
The three aforementioned stood in the middle of a fairly large field, surrounded by large amounts of obstacles and soldiers. In front of them, the Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel watched like bloodthirsty dogs.
“Well, today you three will be facing the two of us for your promotion tests. Nik you’ll be-“ as the Colonel was explaining his the event, a scream pierced the air.
“Colonel! Sir, we have a Code Red. An army of Stage One and Stage Two mutated creatures are approaching the Headquarters. We estimate that there are approximately three thousand Stage One and Stage Two creatures and ten Stage Three commanders,” a frantic man came running at them, yelling at the top of his lungs. As the soldiers heard his words, their faces instantly paled with fear. The Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel reacted immediately.
“All Brigade members prepare for combat! The Headquarters will now be in full lockdown! Now move!” the Colonel’s voice filled the air, dust blew up as the sound waves materialized and travelled across the entire headquarters. It seemed as if his voice grew louder and louder as it spread out.
Blaring sounds joined his voice as red lights began to flash. The metal wall that had surrounded the headquarters shook, as all its pathways were blocked with thick layers of metal.
There were soldiers running everywhere, grabbing various kinds of guns, such as the FN Scar, SV-98, some were even carrying RPG’s and Grenade Launchers. Some soldiers ignored the conventional firearms however, as they lugged around gigantic hammers and axes, or even wielded swords.
Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.
Nik’s eyes noticed a familiar face approaching them. It was one of the men they met the first time they arrived at the Brigade.
“Hey you three will now be under my squad,” he smiled. The three recruits ignored his words however; as they stared at the sword he carried. ‘Him again…’ they thought.

“Hah, so it is what the upper branch had feared huh? ‘Once the crimson sky fully sets over the world will the true apocalypse begin’…” the Lieutenant Colonel stared up at the crimson sky. The rain had stopped after his squad sacrificed their lives to kill the Stage Three plant. Though, as he examined the clouds of blood, it seemed as if a storm was beginning to brew.
A quiet sigh came out of his throat, as he stared at the soldiers running around and gathering, preparing to combat the beasts outside the walls. Gunfire could already be heard as snipers took the initiative against them. He could only look bitterly at the soldier’s faces, memorizing each one, as he knows more than half of them would be dead by the end of this battle.
“Colonel, what are we going to do with the three recruits?” he asked the man beside him, as they walked towards the wall.
“I’ve assigned Personn to take charge of them. They’ll be safe with that man. Hopefully they won’t have to face anything life-threatening. With Sarge’s brutal training, I think the three of them are adept enough to face off against Stage One and Two creatures. It’s unfortunate that we weren’t able to test their Mystic Aptitude, but they are still quite talented in their own rights. For now, we can only hope that we make it through the storm,” the Colonel answered, his eyes carried a hint of determination.
“We can only hope huh…” as James said those words, the storm brewing collapsed upon the city of Fenlei. Loud roars filled the skies, children cried in their beds, men and women hid from the blood pouring down. It was as if hell has come to Earth, waiting to reap the souls of the unfortunate who will die. It was the descent of the Tribulations.
Thousands of beasts and plants arose from their slumbers, the rain that came crashing down fed them great power, but in exchange, their bodies will be thrust into a mad rampage, seeking to destroy that is all mankind.
Hundreds of soldiers were huddled inside the metal wall surrounding the headquarters, rounds of bullets descended on the mutated beasts below. From enraged dogs, to ancient trees, the army was slowly approaching. Waves of creatures continued onwards; whenever one would go down, three others would replace it. It was an endless war.
A voice suddenly resounded around the world.
“Let the purge… begin!”

A Speech from the World Nations Public Relations President
As of today, the red clouds looming above our heads have covered the entirety of the Earth’s surface. The Magistrates have predicted that once this occurs, the True Apocalypse will begin. Our research involving the Scroll of Larac has revealed that the events that have occurred inside of it, completely matches the events that has happened thus far. Making the connection, we believe that Seven Tribulations will fall upon our world, and only Seven Keys can halt the disaster approaching us.
We declare that the whole World Nations will be in a state of emergency. Food rationing will be kept even stricter, to keep supplies ready for our military. From today until this event ends, there will be a worldwide drafting period, including those in the superpowers of the E.L.E.C and Frozin Empire. We will be forgetting our enmities and will work together to find the Seven Keys. We wish that our citizens will aid in this worldwide project, as to save the life of billions of people.
In the names of the World Nations Counsel, E.L.E.C Lord and the Frozin Emperor, we hereby announce war with the Seven Tribulations. May the heavens guide us and our powers grant us our wishes.
State of Emergency
All citizens are to evacuate from their homes and into Underground Shelters, please look at the maps to determine where your city’s Underground Shelters are. Food rationing will be kept as long as the Seven Tribulations last. If an individual wishes to obtain more supplies, there will be a merit system held in the Shelters. Do your best to help your fellow citizens and your country to withstand these Tribulations.
To all Military Personnel, if an individual is not inside the Shelters by October 10, 2043, you are permitted to assume that they are infected by the Blood Rain. Assume any actions deemed necessary to ensure safety inside the World Nations. If you spot any raiders, take any actions necessary as they are taking government property as of October 8, 2043. Any mutated creatures are to be killed on sight.
Be wary of any mutated armies, as Official Intel tells that they are most likely under the leadership of Stage Three/Stage Four creatures. If any armies are spotted, immediately report your commanders.
These signs are to be posted in every city. Failure to comply with these order, any individuals, both civilian and personnel, will be punished thoroughly.
