Chapter 20: What they both wanted

Chapter 20: What they both wanted

-Hey, Chris, guess what I got for you!

The girl smiles as she told the boy. Without caring the surprised look on Chris' face, she brought over the tray to the bed.

His mother never said she would be the one who would bring dinner to him, but even so, he wasn't expecting the girl to come deliver the dinner, altho it was just part of his surprise.

The other part was her looks. There was nothing of her previous clothes from the game. Instead, the girl was wearing a red minidress with hot pants and using an apron on top of them while had black long-socks on her legs.

It was such a stunning look that almost made the boy wonder if she was the same person, but there was no mistake that she was really the girl. She didn't look like a character anymore but rather just a girl comfortable in her home.

Seen him without words with a blushing face when she got near the bed, the girl tilts her headIs something

is wrong?

Noticing he was staring at her for a while, the boy quickly tries to put away his embarrassment with a cough.

-N-Nothing at all. Thanks for bringing it to me.

-You are welcome! - She responded with a smile.

Receiving the tray, the boy placed it on his legs after giving his thanks.

(...Dang it, mom! Don't go and dress her like that!)

The culprit for making he lose his cool was easily found out. His mother had some spare clothes from her old days and was planning to give them out but never had the time. Who knew she would give them to the girl?

(Anyway! Better eat before it gets cold!)

Trying to not think about how beautiful the girl had become, Chris concentrated on the dinner on his legs and brought a full fork of food to his open mouth, but...there was a pair of curious eyes watching him at his side.

Normally, he thought the girl would just leave after delivering his dinner but since it was such a great opportunity for her, she didn't leave his side and was watching him very closely while standing on her knees.

Her face was just about a palm of distance from his to not let any small movement be haste in her memory, but that made him more nervous than he already was. Since he could also see her, Chris couldn't stop trembling while being watched by a girl this close to him.

This can't go on or he wouldn't eat at all.

-Ahm...Thank you? - Awkwardly, he tried to send a hint to the girl to give him space.

-You are welcome! - But she didn't understand it, instead, she just smiled again at him.

-No, I mean it...thanks for bringing it.

-I know, I heard you the first time.

-So...could you, please...

-If you need something from me, I would be glad to help!

He could felt it. She wouldn't go away no matter what he said. She was there to stay. His best bet was to be straight with her.

-Look, I can't really eat like this, you know?

The girl was shocked after being told that but then she realized what she should have done for him. A bit embarrassed, the girl said:

-Ops...I'm sorry. I forgot about it.

(Great! She understands it!)

Looking at her apologizing, Chris was joyful that he managed to tell her without any accidents.

-Now, if you could excuse me, I-

-Say "Ahh".

Before he noticed, the girl was with his fork in her hand and was bringing it to his mouth, waiting patiently for Chris to allow her to feed him. As for the boy, he had a blank face without understanding what was going on around him.

Maybe because she thought he didn't understand, the girl kept trying, leaning towards him.

-Say "Ahh".

-...The heck are you doing?

-Can't you see? I'm feeding you. Now, be a good boy and say "Ahh".

-Look, I'm not going to say "Ah"-

The moment she heard "Ah", the girl trusted the fork in his mouth, making him almost choke with how violent she did it. Without caring for the dirt he would do, Chris was spitting the good over his blanket as he tried to breathe normally.

-...You didn't like, did you?

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

But the girl was clueless of her doings, thinking that his reaction was for how the food tasted. After he was feeling a bit better from her "feeding", the boy glared angrily at her.

-Oh no, it was great! Next time, why not just send the fork down my throat to make sure it goes to my stomach! - He told her, sarcastic.

-...Got it. This time, I am not going to miss it... - But instead of noticing his true intentions, she took him seriously and was really aiming for his throat.

-Please, stop and listen to me!

As he couldn't bear to watch it anymore, Chris took the fork away from the girl's hands. Noticing something was weird, she was making a surprised face like it was asking him what is wrong.

-Look, I don't know why you are doing this but could you please let me eat alone?

-But...I thought...we...

-Seriously, I'm not saying this to hurt you but I really had a thought day today and I really wanted to be alone for a while.

It did sound mean telling her that, and he knew about it, but Chris needed to think better over what was happening. If she waited together with him right now, he couldn't be calm, rather, he would be anxious about what she would do.

(Luckily, with this, she will understand me and leave my room.)

Still, it didn't have a good feeling telling someone off right in their faces. Looking at her face that would cry at any moment, Chris stoned his heart if he needed to continue the conversation.

-But...but...I...

-But what?

Annoyed, he responded with a heavy voice over her weak toned plea. He thought he could do it, but seen the girl's reaction like she was lost a child, made him flinch. Chris didn't have the will to continue talking with her like that.

Still, he couldn't stop fearing her.

(C'mon, don't be deceived.)

He told himself.

(She is not a girl, but a murder.)

It was all an act for him to lower his guard.

(That is right...it's all fake. Don't fall for it. Don't fall for it again.)

Not worth thinking about the past. Instead, now he saw a girl in his eyes, but the image of Midnight Pumpkin overlapped with her in his mind.

(Yes...that is who she is...)

The way she attacked him, the pain he felt before, the sensation of being hunted, all the bad memories she gave him today. Finally, his feelings were settled.

(...Yeah, I know who you truly are-)

-...But!...This!

While he was lost in his thoughts, the girl shouted with a strong and resolute voice as she grabs his left arm with both hands.

-...Doesn't this hurt you!...I did this...!...So, please!...Let me help you!

With her touch, he was scared. Those shackles he felt before, locking him, preventing him from going way, making sure he wouldn't escape...Chris couldn't feel it anymore.

(...What?)

In fact, he couldn't feel any touch at all. Confused, the boy looked at his arm and saw her hands a bit away from it, like the girl didn't know how to use them to touch him.

(But, why didn't she...?)

Astonished, Chris turned his sigh to the girl and...he found...her.

That face without a trace of malice he had found before. An innocent face that didn't lie to how she felt. The look of worry for him in her big clear eyes that were almost on the verge of tears.

It wasn't a character whose movement you could predict nor a killer that would kill you with pleasure. It was just...her.

-...Please...can't I help you...?

He heard the girl's question and finally noticed how her voice sounded in his ears. A clear voice with that only asked to help.

After everything he thought about her, after all the things he thought about her...calling her nothing more than a killer, it was all a farce, an act, going as far as remembering bad memories just to not see her properly...it was...just...

...

-...Here.

With his head looking down from the shame, Chris handed the fork for the girl to pick. Confused, she looked between the fork and the boy as if she didn't know where to fix her sight.

-...Can I...really get this...?

Facing her with a gloomy face, Chris couldn't find the right words to answer the girl.

-I'm...sorry about before. There were many things in my mind and I was too stressed to think straight and...no, that is wrong. I was...scared. I don't know you or how you came here, but I never thought about how you felt about all this. Instead, I was looking away and never face you...That's why...I'm really sorry.

All he could do now was to lower his head to her, leaving the girl more confused over what was happening.

-...Chris...that is not...

-That's why!

With an animated voice, the boy faces the girl again without taking the sight off her eyes.

-I want you to stay here with us!

From his words, the girl opened her eyes wide as if she couldn't believe. It wasn't a decision he could take back later, but Chris had faith it was the best answer for now.

-...But...but...can I...really...be here...with you...?

Trying to hold back her tears with all she could, the girl asked the boy with the weakest voice she could make.

-...To be honest, there are many things I don't right now. Why nobody remembers the game, how you appeared here, and, frankly, I don't really think I will ever know those answers. But...

As if it was the most important day of her life, the girl didn't even blink while she looked at the boy with her hands over her mouth. Making sure she was listening to him, Chris finally said:

-I think that, If we work together, maybe we could understand what is happening even for a little...altho that is only part of it.

It was something else, personal to Chris. Something he wanted since that day.

-What I really want is...to finish the game.

That save which they both meet but he could never complete it. There was no reason to hide or look away now, this wish inside him, it was better to just say it.

-I want to know who you really are.

Not the killer who was made to lose but that girl he saw today. Ever since the day they met, she was the first character he had know that talked not with the avatar but with him.

-Here we don't have codes to tell us what to do, there is nothing that can stop us from knowing each other and we can finally be ourselves.

A world where they weren't the main character or the antagonist, but just a boy and a girl without roles determined for them.

-So, what do you say about...no, that is not it. - He tried to ask her something, but there was a better phrase it.

He recalls it, just like before, when there was a screen between them. Like that time, in the park at night when they first met. He extended the fork to her and said:

-Is this a good answer?

Exactly like before, without changing any words.

This was really happening, the girl couldn't believe. It wasn't with a block of data, it wasn't pre-written dialogue, there was nothing holding her back. It was...real.

She couldn't hold herself anymore. Tears of joy fell from her eyes as she jumped towards Chris to hug him. With a sobbing voice, she shouted with all her strengths.

-Yes! The best!
