Chapter 25 The Past covered in a Veil(1)

<>

I am currently sitting on top of the rope that is tied to the two pillars limiting Mary’s room; the two of them are sitting in two stone chairs(Brand Ashenwald: The A stands for Astounding Quality!) and silently listening to my story.

<>

I receive a pair of approving nods while watching the two spectators use bread to clean the pot of leftover broth, the inner corners of my mouth already getting wet of saliva.

*Sigh*

I know I am not into this right now but it is what it is. Least I can do is tell them an entertaining story.

I force a smile on my lips and begin to tell my story in earnest.

..

After having his last conversation with Esteban Blueseva, Imogyeran left on the very same day, not wanting to be near the source of his conflicting emotions any longer.

He left without ever bidding his farewell to Elise Blueseva and simply told the next best person he could find to deliver the message of him going on a 5-year-long journey to his apparently-not-as-much-as-a best and only friend.

First thing he did was look up into the sky to confirm something that --. told him about.

The time of his departure was a late evening and regardless of the seasons being close to summer, the nightly sky had already started to appear in his field of view.

<>, the boy murmured:

The sky was as blank as a black abyss, only darkness gazing on the one, who dared to gaze inside. The only speck of color that illuminated the sky was the ball of fire vanishing behind the edges of the horizon and this Grey-shimmering cube of light coming to visibility into the direction of the sky, which points to the capital of Estica, Estriania (note: Es-tri-a-ni-a) to the center of Estica. No other sources of light exist within that sky, which is why it is also called the ‘Night’s Abyss’. Fittingly, the Grey-shimmering, immovable light source is called the ‘Eye of the Abyss’ or in some older cultures it is called ‘Tarvadora’ the door to death.

Imogyeran felt a mixture of different feelings at that moment. Both the exhilarating feeling of being able to freely stand tall underneath this dark dome expressing itself of the night as well as a primal fear of the dark awakening from deep within his body.

Before the fear of the dark could take over, he started some breathing exercises and decided to lower his gaze in front of him. Illuminated by the pale-blue light emitted from ‘Donmir’, there was a paved walkway connecting the Blueseva Mansion with a traveling route for established merchants coming to do trade with the family. While petting the crescent clouds akin to fur of ‘Donmir’, who had enlarged himself to be slightly larger than Imogyeran’s Bellybutton, the boy walked deep into the night with his savior being his only light.

[“The Young, Beautiful and Intelligent Boy walked deep into the night, his Life’s Savior once again showed him the Light!”]

[“You might be wondering, what my plan for the future was going to be. You see...”]

Over the years, Imogyeran has sporadically prepared himself for his future liberation from servitude. While his plans often contained a taint of optimism and a spoon-full of naivety, the young boy has managed to create a short list of goals, which he plans to follow until his self-proclaimed 5-year period of journeying will be over.

The boy’s first goal is simple:

[“I went into town to buy a bunch of sweets to try out for myself!”]

[However, life has thrown numerous burdens In the way of me getting what I wanted!”(theatric tone)]

However, since the young boy has left without keeping to the predetermined procedures(, which he was told beforehand), he was left to himself without any last monetary support.

The boy would sadly only realize this fact after arriving at the urban part of Carcera village.

Carcera is one of the larger cities of Estica and as such consists of a lower-class stake and an upper-class one.

The lower-class stake is also called Carcera village and contains the main populous of Carcera or in other words, it is the main district of Carcera. In there, the main infrastructure regarding trade and homing is kept, including the shopping district, which Imogyeran is heading to.

The upper-class stake is also called ‘Carceran Corona’ the halo of Carcera.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

This district circumcises the center Carcera village and is equipped with stronger technology, high military power and a high level of sanitary and medical infrastructure. During that moment, Imogyeran was wandering from the south-western outer part of Carcera into the center part. The journey only took approximately one hour until he saw the first fields filled with crops and an additional two hours to get to the shopping district of Carcera(including a slight detour due to being lost in a big village).

[“That was my first time seeing crops being grown from up close. Any other time, I only saw them in passing, when my Gramps took me on a trip within a carriage and stuff.“]

[After what felt like an eternity of grueling exhaustion, I finally made it to my desired location!”]

For reference, even at that young age, Imogyeran was perfectly capable of running this type of distance in a light jog.

After reaching the shopping district, his eyes began to widen; his nose took in the many different scents while his mouth began to water up.

It is a custom for merchants to use enticing aromas to attract the customer’s attention and to create an atmosphere, in which the customers are more likely to fall into a shopping frenzy and buy the presented products.

[“I obviously knew of these tricks beforehand through my spirit-friends and was thus able to deftly tiptoe around these money-inhaling pits.”(proud tone)]

Imogyeran was informed beforehand about this strategy but the sheer amount of impressions at once made him lose his wits regardless of the boy’s information. Deep inside his heart, he was and still is just a young child.

‘’Wow! Look at all these people, ‘Donmir’! They are talking to each other so quickly and everything is moving and everything is shimmering in different colors and all the food looks delicious and.. and...!”

The boy continued chattering about to his now minimized friend while taking in the scenery before him in a more detailed fashion.

Around Imogyeran, a myriad of stands made out of elaborate versions of wood and chipboard were queued next to each other, leaving linear passages for the people to go through.

The front of the merchant’s stands typically consisted of a colored podium covered in a blanket and a canopy made out of either wood or silk, presenting the wares to the observers while simultaneously shielding them from sudden changes in the weather.

The coloration of the stands typically used lush colors like green and yellow, while the podium was draped with white or black blankets.

Most of the goods presented for the customers were either farming utensils, crops and seeds or miscellaneous tools for everyday life.

[“I remember one stand especially well. The guy selling the stuff showed me a really beautiful white comb made of bone. I decided to buy that one to gift it Elli when coming ”]

Imogyeran stopped for an especially long time in front of a stand, which sold a pearl-white comb with a half-circular handle and pointed ends on its front. The bone had both the properties of many smaller, trimmed-down rib-bones and a pelvis bone. From an artistic perspective, the welded-together conglomerate of bones had no real appeal to the other gender but the sheltered child Imogyeran only ever had a single point of reference when it came to fashion and from that perspective the comb had an almost exotic charm to it, which managed to entice the young and impressionable boy.

The man noticed the gawking Imogyeran and immediately began working on appealing to the naive little kid.

Did it work?

<>

The vendor looked to be around 25 in years and had a sturdy built. His nose was curved like a beak and emitted a brown color, while the guy’s arms were covered in fur.

[“That moment was the first time I saw a Yetenbu look like that in my life. Thinking back to it, none of the Yetenbu people I saw at the mansion had this kind of an appearance. Why is that?”]

[Hyoran: “We Yetenbu have an inherently varied pool of people within ourselves, so there are various different looking people in Estica. However, most of nobility despises the carnal traits of our ancestors. That is why they actively look to avoid showing their primal characteristics.”]

[“Wow, that’s the first time in ages that you said something smart, old man. I am impressed.”]

[*Punch*]

[“Ouch”(Whimpering)]

The country of Estica as well as its neighboring countries Ayrilia, Rabakda, Hakenburg, Dachiki and Ylvia are the countries with the highest percentage of Yetenbu people in Weldapper.

____________

The Yetenbu:

A Humanoid-mixed race. Has a naturally well trained sense of smell and a tendency of carnivorous dietary habits. Appearances differ strongly within this race as there seem to be appearances adapted by the existing fauna.

Oftentimes distinguishable by their non-humanoid noses and highly pronounced chest-area in grown female Yetenbu.

Yetenbu with faces containing strong characteristics of beasts are oftentimes discriminated against and typically not accepted into the higher circles of society. Exceptions to the rule exist both in small scale as well as in large scale.

Note:

The Blueseva-family has the characteristic of their abdomen being covered with a layer of sparkling feathers, serving as both an insulation of the cold as well as a decorative sign of pride within the noble circles. There are events centered around showing off those traits, Imogyeran has not been invited to one yet.

____________

In the Blueseva household however, Imogyeran never really noticed the differences between himself- an Uzunku offspring- and them except for one or two people having small rounded noses or slightly protruding front teeth.

____________

Uzunku:

A Humanoid species with longer pointed ears and typically a slim frame. A high part of the Uzunku-Populous has developed a tendency on vegetarianism.

Uzunku are often discriminated against as ugly beings due to their thin frame and oftentimes pale skin.

In Estica, none of the noble families have Uzunku within their main bloodline, while they are treated as equals within the borders of Ayrilia.

Within the regular people of Estica and the ones with Uzunku-heritage there is no racial discrimination.

Note:

Imogyeran is not a vegetarian, if he doesn’t need to be one.

Uzunku typically have a hard time to age above a certain age, because their bodies are not well suited to store fat reserves within. The changing climate as well as excruciating cold seasons are reasons for that. If given the right opportunity though, they are capable of living for a long time.

There is a rumor, that the humanitarian sage also is/(has been) born as an Uzunku.

Within Wellevend, there is a country governed by Uzunku called Elba-Rossa. Uzunku within Wellevend are treated better than in Weldapper and hold a more domineering grip on the Wellevend-Economy together with the Karade.
