Chapter 4

The next day I woke up bright and early and got some breakfast. The Pidgey egg omelet was surprisingly i was eating however nurse joy swung by my table to speak to me. "Hello Jon, I hope you slept well. I just wanted to let you know that if you were interested I have a connection at Birchs laboratory and I'm sure he would love to study your ancient pokemon. Who knows you may even get a sponsorship out of it" she said.

My eyes turned into money bags. I had read about sponsorships when cyber was forging my identity. Basically I would get free money and if it was from a lab, possibly even a starter pokemon.

"Yes please Nurse Joy. I would be forever grateful" I said practically begging.

She let out a soft giggle covering her mouth at my antics "It is no problem I will let you know about it when you get back from the gym later good luck on your match".

I thanked her profusely and afterwards I went to Rustboro city gym to hopefully have my gym battle today. The gym looked like a giant boulder on the outside but upon entering it was surprisingly spacious and modern. I went to the front desk where a young woman sat typing away at a p.c. "Hello good morning, I am Jon. Is there any chance I can battle the gym today?" I asked.

"Hello and good morning to you too young man for this challenge you have to fight the gym trainers first then you can fight roxanne based on her availability". She said stopping her typing to talk to me

"Ok thank you , are the gym trainers in yet? I know it's still a little early" I said .

"Yes of course, trust me you aren't the first eager trainer to come at the break of dawn, I'll tell the first one you are here to battle" She said as she led me to the rock battlefield where a kid around my age was .

"Hey morning, my name is Josh. You must be the one I'm battling" he said.

Yeah that would be me, I said analyzing the field.

"Good well it'll be a 1v1 battle let's get to it". The receptionist was the referee and we released our pokemon on the count of 3.

Go geodude/Go Drax. Drax appeared in the field and gave a tiny roar which intimidated absolutely noone. "Huh a fire type how bold" he said . "Geodude use rock throw"

. Drax dodge and Sunny Day. Drax dodged a rock throw, easily twisting his body to avoid the rock and then spit a orb of light in the air making the area considerably hotter.

Geodude use rollout. Drax smoke screen and dodge. The smoke screen disoriented the Geodude causing it to crash into a nearby rock instead of Drax.

"Now Drax show him your power overcharged flame thrower". As I said this the small flame on the back of charmanders tail became even brighter and bigger as the effects of Solar Power activated, giving him the boost necessary to bring out a little of the power he had lost.

The trainer seeing what was coming commanded Geodude to use rollout and dodge it.A comically large torrent of fire spewed from Drax's jaws following the Geodudes path partially melting boulders before slamming into the geodude and blasting it through a rock.

"Enough" I said and Drax stopped his flamethrower simultaneously deactivating his solar power as well. The boulder that got hit by the blast was partially melted and the Geodude was charred and unmoving in a black spot. His trainer was shocked and the referee called the match.

Josh recalled his pokemon and let out an impressed whistle. "God, that was some Charmander must've trained him really well. I'll call Golem to fix the field and get the next two trainers" he said leaving.

It took a total of 10 minutes for a pretty strong looking Golem to repair the field. In the meantime I had Drax us Rest on the sidelines to recover the health he lost from his ability.

After the Golem was done out walked two more trainers, a guy named Tommy and a girl named Georgia. "Josh said you messed him up real good lets see how well you do against us" said Tommy confidently.

Tommy sent out a Roggenrola which was interesting while Georgia sent out another Geodude . I sent out Puffy and Galvan in response.

"Roggenrola use Rock Throw on the Geodude", "Geodude use roll out on the Jigglypuff".

"Dodge and fly Galvan , Puffy side step and power up punch".

Geodude dodged the incoming rock by throwing himself into the air beginning to float while Puffy stood still waiting for just the right moment as she twirled to the side expertly dodging the rollout before delivering an expert punch knocking the Geodude to the side.

"Rock Blast the geodude out of the sky Roggenrola". "Geodude use Rock Throw and retreat back to Roggenrola".

"Puffy block with Powerup punch and start beaming them up Galvan".

Puffy began advancing toward the opposing side of the field breaking apart the small rocks coming toward her way with ease while Galvan flew around pelting the Roggenrola with Charge Beams as he weaved the rocks being thrown at him.

"Enough of that, bring it down with Gravity," said Tommy, smirking only for Galvan to be brought down a few inches but still be in the air.

"What the" he said perplexed.

This time it was my turn to smirk "Sorry that trick won't work on us".

"Geodude use Sand Storm," said the girl. "Puffy use water pulse and end this" I said.

But to my surprise the Geodude was able to dodge the move which was unexpected based on its previous speed which meant it had to have the ability Sand Veil. It wasnt the only one to receive a boost though as I heard a "dude" as galvan took his first hit of the battle.

The Roggenrola had also powered up due to the sand storm. Rock throw geodude , Puffy dodge and Rain Dance. Galvan move to cover her. Puffy started summoning clouds as the sandstorm subsided while Galvan covered her from the incoming rocks by using Protect and shooting them down with Charge Beam. As the rain was set up I yelled thunder on Roggenrola taking it out of the fight.

The girl, seemingly knowing it was a lost battle, commanded Geodude to use rollout on Puffy, seemingly trying to take at least one of my pokemon out. Puffy dynamic punch.

With all the buffs she had stacked from the Power up punches Puffy slammed her glowing tiny fist into the Geodude with such force that it was sent flying toward the other side of the field where it broke two boulders on collision before falling and fainting.

Tommy started clapping "That was crazy I didn't know a Geodude could fly like that how did you do it?".

"Well he's not really flying he's just using Magnet Rise" is aid dusting some of the sand off my shirt.

"Wow, I've heard that's possible but only super elite trainers are able to do it. That's crazy".

I scratched the back of my head awkwardly at his praise "Thanks". I went up to Puffy and Galvan who high fived each other and I was about to tell her to use Heal Pulse on both of them when she did it herself. "Good job you two" I said, bending down and giving them a head pat and fist bump respectively.

The receptionist came up to me after and said "So here's the deal as you probably know Roxanne is a teacher at the pokemon trainer school , as such she does exhibition matches for the younger kids from time to time but today the volunteer we had canceled due to being extremely ill so if you accept I was hoping you could have your match with her here with the students watching" .

"Oh uh sure I guess that doesn't really change anything" I said. In fact this was better: a little more recognition never hurt anyone.

"Perfect i'll be right back i just have to call Roxanne and make sure that it's ok with her" she said running back toward the office. The gym Golem came back and repaired the field as I waited and Galvan went over to it and they started chatting him up. Galvan was also seemingly helping him repair the field so I just allowed him to continue. The receptionist came back 10 minutes later. "Ok, she agreed, so come back at 2:30 for your battle". I looked at the time it was only 11 so I just shook my head "No problem". I said, recalling my newly gained trainer money I left the gym and headed towards a clothing shop where I bought some different shirts for variety.

POV Roxanne

Roxanne was busy grading papers in her office when the news came in that the exhibition match she was going to have today was going to be canceled. She sighed knowing that the students would be sad but there was nothing she could do. As she picked up the phone to dial the teacher and cancel the class trip she received a call from her secretary.

"Yes Mary what happened , hopefully not some more bad news I can't handle any more after the cancellation." I said dejectedly

"Good morning Roxanne, actually I think I found a solution to our exhibition match problem".

"Oh what solution would that be?" I asked, twirling a pen in my hand.

"Well there's this new gym challenger who's here for a battle and I feel like he would do great in a match. Excellent skills and a variety of pokemon".

"Hmm that's high praise coming from many badges does he have?" I questioned now a bit intrigued.

"Well that's the thing he doesn't have any badges but I think he might be a legacy or something because the way he battled wasn't like a beginner at all look over the footage and you'll see" she said excitedly.

"Hmm well I trust your judgment book him for 2:30 ,bye". With the call over I booted up my laptop and reviewed the footage from the trainers' battle against my gym trainers. The first battle with the odd looking Charmander was quick and concise with the Charmander releasing devastating firepower for its small form, I quickly attributed this to it possessing the rare Solar Power ability but it was still impressive nonetheless. More interesting however was the next battle where he used a Jigglypuff and an Alolan geodude. I was extremely surprised as the Alolan geodude flew around the arena with ease, not just merely levitating. Electromagnetic flight was a feat only the likes of Volkner, Wattson and Lt Surge could accomplish. The speed of his pokemon was also impressive with the Jigglypuff simply dodging an oncoming rollout with ease as if it was in a ballet.

When I heard Tommy command Roggenrola to use Gravity I fully expected to see the Geodude fall to the ground yet it did nothing at all.

'Interesting this match should be educational for the kids and better yet might actually be fun for me. I'll use my beginner Geodude for the first fight and then my intermediate Nosepass he seems like he'd be up for the challenge' I thought to myself. 'Regardless if he doesn't win i'll give him the badge this showing against the gym trainers was more than enough'.

After my shopping spree I stopped at this world's version of a Kfc and had some fried hoot hoot legs which no surprise here tasted like chicken. With some time to kill i let everyone out at a park to run around and enjoy themselves while i sat in the grass looking around happily. I saw Song and Puffy playing with some kids as they gave them headpatts after asking my permission. Drax and Reptar decided their time was best spent digging a random hole in the ground while Galvan helped. Gaea lazed around in the grass sunbathing like the lazy girl she was and .Lastly was Boo who decided to scare a poor sleeping Rattata half to death after he came from its shadow and used Scary Face. We stayed there for about an hour till I decided to go back to the center and change as my pants got dirty. I spent the rest of my time just idly watching tv and chilling before the battle.

Walking back to the gym the secretary told me they were waiting inside and when I got there I saw 14 children sitting in the bleachers listening to the woman speaking to them.

"Remember to stay seated. While this is an exhibition match we don't want anyone hurt ok? And if anything Mr Mime will protect you from any stray attacks" she told them in a stern yet soft voice.

"Yes, Mrs. Rockledge '' they answered in unison.

"Good" she said before noticing my approach and looking over at me "Oh you must be Jake it's great that you were able to fill in today isn't that right class?".

"Yes, teacher" they chorused.

"Well I hope you guys learn from today's battle," I said smiling addressing the class. "Is it okay if I release my pokemon who aren't battling into the stands?"I asked her.

"Oh that is fine, we'll be using 2v2 for the battle, sounds good?" she asked.

"Yes, it sounds good to me," I said, releasing Drax,Galvan,Puffy, into the stands. I left Gaea clipped to my belt as she was napping and left Song in her pokeball in my bag so they would think I just had 6 pokemon. The kids stared at them in awe and one young child raised their hand. "Can we pet them?"

"Yes of course they all love children '' I said which was mostly true only feisty one was Reptar but with there not being many children in the old world they all bared their head patting assault.

"Oh also is it fine for the battle to be recorded and shared for teaching purposes" Roxanne questioned

"Yeah it's fine by me '' I said. Hopefully this would start making my name more renowned.

With that we took to our sides of the field and released our pokemon on the count of three. Go geodude/Go Boo. The children OOd at Boo who instead of coming out of a pokeball like the geodude just came out of my shadow.

"Geodude stealth rock". "Boo taunt" I said Boo failed to get the first move and the Geodude managed to get a few rocks in the air. "Gassstly" said Boo sticking his tongue out making the Geodude mad, successfully taunting him.

"Geodude rock throw" "Boo dodge"

The rock sailed past Boo who avoided it with ease taking the time to blow a raspberry at Geodude causing the children to laugh.

'Hmm it seems like the gravity training effects are still showing judging by how quick he is' I thought to myself , "Boo use troll tactics". With this order Boo smiled and used Toxic immediately, scoring a hit as his poison typing meant he had natural control over the move.

"Geodude use rock tomb to set up more rocks on the field". Geodude began summoning boulders into the ground.

"Boo stop him" I said. At my order Boo floated toward him dodging more rocks as his eyes turned blue and used Hypnosis causing Geodude to fall asleep as Boo danced around his sleeping form.

"Sleeptalk Geodude" With that Boo took his first hit and what a hit it was as the Sleeptalk came in the form of a Rock throw which slammed directly into him and caused him to tumble into one of the boulders summoned by Rock Tomb .

"Serves you right joker now use Willowwisp". See the thing about the real pokemon world is that multiple statuses stack and while Boo didn't have many statuses to inflict, being both poisoned and burned would help out tremendously. The willowisps caused the Geodude to wake up looking a little worse for wear but still ready to fight.

"Boo use Shadow Ball and stay out of range". " Geodude dodge with Rollout".

Boo lit up the field with Shadow Balls but the mobility Rollout provided allowed him to stay clear and dodge the onslaught.

"Geodude to the sky". "What?" I questioned and that's when I saw one of the boulders Geodude had summoned was angled like a ramp. It used the ramp to hurl itself toward Boo with extreme momentum. "Protect !" I shouted just in time and Boo was able to stop the rock pokemon just in time deflecting the move off his shield only for him to get smacked from behind by the Stealth Rocks Geodude set up earlier.

'Tch gotta focus on training protect back up Boo used to be able to cover his whole frame not just one direction' Boo was damaged but with the burn cutting Geodudes' attack in half it wasn't as bad as it could have been and he shook off the attack within moments.

"Boo shadow ball finish this" is said. On the ground Geodude was recovering from hurling toward the ground at max momentum when he was smacked by two Shadow Balls finally knocking him out.

"Very impressive" Roxanne said to me before looking toward the class "I hope you're all paying attention. We'll review this battle after"."Now then Nosepass come on out "she said, focusing back on the battlefield. Followed by saying "Use Taunt" immediately after it materialized beating me to it.

"Boo fly around and use Shadow Ball", I commanded. "Nosepass dodge and use Sandstorm," she said.

The Nosepass was surprisingly spry and dodged out of the way before whipping up a Sandstorm above him. Boo was being pelted by the small grains of sand while trying to find Nosepass but was quickly blind sided by a powerful beam of light that knocked him out of the sky. Boo was still up though but very worse for wear and I knew he'd probably go down in one more hit "Boo you're still in the fight always remember to hold a grudge".

The next Power Gem took him out of the fight but that was ok. I had seen his form light up blue for a moment so I knew he got my message and did his job. "Ok lets go Reptar it's up to you".

"Oh a Larvitar what an amazing specimen," she said, causing Reptar to flex. "Enough of that Reptar use Dragon dance". "Nosepass taunt" but it was too late the red film of Dragon Dance surrounded him as he roared.

"Reptar rock throw and blitz". "Dodge" said Roxanne.

Nosepass dodged out of the way of the Rock Throw only to see Reptars tiny form rushing at him with rage in his eyes. "Nosepass use Power gem to stop it in its tracks", she said.

I smirked on my side, a big mistake. Instead of being stopped Reptar continued its charge as no move came out leaving Roxanne confused for a second. To her credit She recovered quickly however and commanded Nosepass To use Rock Throw.

"Rock Smash get in melee range". Larvitar's small form weaved around rocks being thrown with ease due to his Sand Veil ability being activated and those that did get near to hitting him were smashed as he rushed towards Nosepass. Right before he reached him I commanded him "Use Iron Head" "Dodge it !" yelled Roxanne but it was too late.

With that I witnessed as Reptar leaped mid charge , his head shining metallically , smacking into Nosepass resulting in a loud cracking sound as Nosepass was forced back looking worse for wear with a crack in its rocky armor.

"Nosepass Rockslide" . "Reptar Protect then rush it like a man !" I yelled . Reptar put up his shield waiting out the Rockslide. As it ended,he began charging toward Nosepass hands glowing red.

"Rock throw" commanded Roxanne but Reptar was not having it and broke the rocks as they came at it. "Nosepass use Ice punch" she commanded as Reptar came into range to use Brick Break. These were both serious super effective attacks forcing each to be blown back , Reptars tiny form even more so but neither was out for the count.

I smiled as I saw that the Ice Punch had frozen a piece of skin by Reptars chest causing him to begin to glow red. "Reptar go again show them your power". Reptar began to roar as it charged toward Nosepass again.

Instead of futility using Rock Throw again Roxanne knew it came down to this last hit so she commanded Nosepass to use Ice Punch. "Reptar Superpower".

Nosepass bent over a bit to smash Reptar with its arm but instead of jumping mid air like last time Reptar waited for the arm to come down to hit him and twisted his body narrowly avoiding the punch. Then a small explosion happened with Reptar jumping up while also releasing the compressed air from his back carparace vents to fuel his momentum delivering a devastating superpower uppercut sending Nosepass literally flying upward for a few seconds before it with a large bang as the dust settled the referee called the match.

Reptar roared in victory as the children started clapping. With the sand storm subsiding Reptars tiny form fell face down into the dirt. "What an amazing match," said Roxanne recalling her Nosepass. "I want to let you know you have already earned the Stone Badge but I was wondering if you would humor me with one more battle?". It was a little weird but I accepted, "Sure I have a pokemon that hasn't gotten much training recently," I said, recalling Reptar.

Go onix/Go Gaea. The gigantic Onix appeared on the opposite side of the field and on my side appeared the small form of Turtwig letting out a yawn. "Ok up and adam Gaea if you win this and I'll get you a Pecha berry after this. That got her excited,"Turtwig" she said happily. The ref looked at both of us "Battle Begin".

"Grassy terrain" I said and immediately Gaea let out a green pulse with phantom grass spreading over the rocky terrain. "Onix use Wrap to crush her".

The Onix came charging at her as soon as she finished the pulse. "Gaea dodge". Gaea jumped up and avoided Onix's tail narrowly. "Use Energy Ball and get some distance". The Energy Ball smacked into the Onix making him take damage but causing the Onix to lash out in pain. The reflexive lashing out caused Gaea to get injured by his tail smacking him down to the ground "turt" she said a little rattled.

"Onix use Iron Tail while it's dazed" , "Gaea Dodge", Unfortunately even despite her gravity training Onix was too close and the blow landed true sending Gaea flying into some boulders. If not for the passive healing from the grassy terrain she would probably be out of the fight. Standing up wobbly Gaea's body began to glow green indicating Overgrow had activated. "Gaea finish this Frenzy Plant". I saw from across the field as Roxanne's eyes widened at my command. The field immediately erupted into gigantic spiked roots which slammed the Onix into the ceiling knocking it out. The field was silent till the class erupted into cheers and the referee finally announced me as the winner.

I went to the middle of the field and patted Gaea on the head. "Ok calm down the fight is over". Gaea huffed in acceptance but calmed down as I passed her a Pecha berry as a reward.

Roxanne who had already recalled her Onix came up to us in the middle of the field "What a splendid battle Jon most beginner trainers wouldn't have been able to beat Nosepass much less my Onix especially in the little hits you did so. I am glad to say you more than earned this badge" She said, presenting me the Stone badge , "i'll also be giving you the ™ for rock tomb as customary".

"Thank you so much," I said, admiring the little badge for a moment.

"I will also have to ask ,where did you get your Larvitar from" she said with a more serious face.

"Oh, that little monster came from Mount Silver in Johto". I said patting his painted pokeball on my belt.

"Interesting, that's a very dangerous place for a beginner trainer," she said scrutinizingly.

"Oh yes of course a sponsor got him for me," I said lying through my teeth.

"Well be careful, the Larvitar line is very notorious for being difficult to train and keep calm," said Roxanne, "although you seem to have had that little guy under control. Also was that move at the end of the second battle grudge?".

"Yes it was", I said surprised she had noticed would have thought it was Disable or Detect.

"How interesting not many trainers use that move nowadays. But anyways you should go heal your Pokemon at the pokemon center. I look forward to you going far, also here is my pokegear number call me if you need anything. I'm sure my boyfriend Brawly will have a great battle with you". She said as she plugged in her pokenumber. The comment of boyfriend left me a little deflated as her teacher vibes were definitely doing it for me.

"No problem, have a nice day." I turned to the class "Hope you guys learned a lot from the battle" I said recalling my pokemon and leaving after.

Getting to the pokemon center I was greeted by Nurse Joy and Chansey. "Hello Jon how did your gym battle go?" She questioned

"It went well", I said, showing her the badge smiling.

"How nice I assume you have some injured pokemon for me and Chansey to take a look at?".

"Why yes I do" I said, depositing Boo, Reptar, and Gaes Pokeballs onto the tray placed on the counter. She took them and handed them to Chansey who went to heal them in the back room.

"What about the inquiry to the professor about my pokemon" I asked hopeful.

" Oh yes, good news on that front," said Nurse Joy. "The professor was very interested in studying your ancient pokemon and requested you to make your way to Little Root Town at your earliest convenience".

I pulled up my map on the Pokenav and mapped out a course . "Sounds good to me thank you, Nurse Joy. I'll probably challenge Brawly first and then go visit him".

I retired to my room and let everyone out of there pokeballs as we watched tv it was Virus' turn to pick the channel and he decided to watch some random documentary on the migratory habits of butterfree much to everyone's dismay.

"Jon" spoke his voice in my head a few minutes into the documentary.

"Yes virus?" I questioned. Virus would not usually speak to me unless something was up.

"When will we meet the others of my kind?" he questioned.

"Hmm i really don't know bud should be in about 2 years before the start of those events" I said laying down. "Or wait" I said sitting up suddenly. "It's 2 years before they attack but they should already be here on earth. I'll do some research for you". I said eagerly getting dressed and going down to the Public .

Truth be told the only reason I had a Deoxys on my team was basically due to its loneliness as when I found it in the crater of the meteor and promised it I could reunite him with others of his kind he agreed. What that meant is I had the potential to maybe have 3 Deoxy's on my team or at least be able to call on them to help me from time to time. I began surfing the internet for information I could find on the subject but I was unable to find which polar ice cap the movie prologue took place in. However I was able to find the professor and the city of Larouse which was near the seventh gym so I had to go take a look at that when I had the chance.

After an hour I went back to nurse joy and collected Reptar and Boos pokeballs while also buying a lot of tacos from the cafeteria and bringing it to my room. There me and my pokemon watched this universe's version of Godzilla where a giant Tyranitar stomped down the city of hollywood. It was a pretty old movie but it was still good, especially for Reptar who saw it as an inspiration. And with that i drifted off into sleep '1 badge down 7 to go' I thought to myself.
