Before we left I made sure everyone save for Boo was returned to their pokeballs as he could just rest in my shadow to protect me if need be. Getting down the mountain from the cave was a mission to do on foot but I decided to descend naturally as I didn't want to risk a random Hiker spotting me flying around in Virus' psychic. As I went down the mountain I paused to take in the view amazed by surrounding forests that lay below. While the Tree of Beginnings forest areas remained there were almost no remaining forests on the surface of the other world leaving a barren wasteland with small pockets of green.

I also spotted a variety of pokemon during my excursion such as Diglett ,Dugtrio, and Geodude. This information alone however did not help me in the slightest for knowing where i was as they were easily the most common pokemon ever being located pretty much everywhere.

The sun continued to bear down on me as I descended before I finally came upon a big plateau already a quarter of the way down the mountain. I sat down and bit into a Pecha berry while drinking one of the Freshwater from my packs when I was suddenly interrupted by an infuriated hoot to my left. Looking over I saw a small white monkey pig looking thing beating its chest and hooting. I got out another Pecha berry and threw it at him which it caught easily and began eating seemingly placated by my offering. With that i continued onward and finally made it down the mountain estimating it took me around 4 hours to climb down.

I decided to head north west from my current position on a whim since the mountains were to the east . I figured walking away from them was as good a direction as any. I palmed Song's pokeball releasing her. Song burst out of her ball and did a few laps in the air appreciating the space before finally landing on my shoulder. I gave her a few head scratches "Good girl now I'm gonna need you to fly ahead and try to find some signs of civilization ok?".

"Swablu,'' she said, letting out a small chirp as she took off.

I then began my walk into the dense walking along I thought more about my current predicament of how to destroy the meteor. First of all the Hoenn league would have any news of the meteor tightly under wraps to not cause a public panic. Thing was I didnt know when exactly I was either and there's a chance they hadn't even detected it yet. Regardless, I would have to get some clout to even know anything about it.

That problem was easily fixed though as beating the Pokemon League would basically make me a celebrity and important political figure at the same time assuring I would know about it. The next problem was either destroying the meteor myself or finding out what happened that stopped it from being destroyed in the first place.

After about 3 hours of trudging through the woods I heard songs call and let out a whistle to call her over to me and extended my arm for her to land on.

"Swab Swabblu" She said, landing on my arm. Releasing small chirps as I scratched her head. "Ok girl lead the way" I said, swinging my arm letting her springboard off of me.

She chirped happily and took off leading me to the road. Unfortunately the road was a very long way from my original position and by the time i made it i was tired and it was nearing twilight so i decided to set up camp at the roadside and rest. I released everyone out of their pokeballs to sleep outside since they had all been in and out of their balls all day save for Boo who rested in my shadow and Cyber who would just store himself in my was pretty chilly out so i snuggled up with Puffy for warmth finding her fur soft just like a Squishmallow.

Getting up the next morning I flipped a coin and decided to head to the left down the road. I had no idea where I was going but an hour later I came across another sign which made me smile. It was a simple sign just saying Rustboro city with an arrow pointing in the direction I was already going in.

When we got close to the city I recalled Song back into her pokeball and made my way into the city. Checking my Poketch the time was approx 5 pm but I had no way of knowing if it was calibrated right or not. I tried not to look like a wide eyed little kid but it was hard as this was my first time seeing a real city in over 15 years. Unlike the other world there were kids playing in the streets laughing which brought a smile to my face.

Giovanni and Koga had tried to raise me to believe all people in this dimension were enemies who needed to be dealt with in the name of honor and protecting the homeland. But I knew that was hogwash, the only people that could be blamed was the Devon corp and even then who could blame people for trying to save their world. Therefore I didn't see any of the people or children walking down the streets as enemies, just regular people going about their lives. I stopped a random man who confirmed my watch's time was incorrect after Galvan had rebooted them and it was in fact only 3 pm.I also asked him for directions to the nearest pokemart which he was kind enough to walk me to. I thanked the guy for his time and went inside.

Getting Inside and looking around I saw it was similar to the layout of a supermarket in my old world with different shelves containing potions, berries, and pokeballs. Seeing as I had no money, I made the short line at the customer service desk to get to the clerk. The line moved quickly and I soon found myself at the front.

"Hello, welcome to the pokemart will you be buying or selling today" greeted the cashier in a practiced customer service voice.

. "I'll be selling,'' I said, taking out 2 water and 2 fire stones from my bag. The cashier picked them up and examined them both with a magnifying glass. "Very nice, both of these stones seem to be of high quality. We can offer you 1700 for each", he said.

"Sounds good to me '' I said not really sure how much they were worth anyway but since this was a pokemart i doubt they'd be ripping me off.

"Thank you,'' he said, taking the two stones and placing them into a box behind him, then turning back to me. Would you like that cash or deposited into a card?".

"I'll take that in cash please". With that i walked out with some start up money to get me by. I went to a nearby coffee shop the clerk recommended to get a bite to eat since I was super hungry.

I sat down and looked at the menu, having a tough time deciding what to pick before relenting and asking the waitress for her opinion. In the end I ordered something called a Double Chocolate Chip Moomoo Frappuccino and a Malasada since the waitress said those were the most popular items. I had to say I was kind of excited even with the remnants setting up a semi functional society back in the other universe, the food had always just sucked. It had been the same bland old food day in and day out with the only things having any real flavor being the berries.

When the food and drink arrived I was practically drooling. I picked up the Malasada and took a bite letting out the most unmanly squeal of delight as this was probably the single most delicious thing I had ever tasted. I was interrupted from my food appreciation as I heard someone giggle from the table next to me.

I looked over to see a pretty redheaded girl approximately the same age as me giggling to herself but upon seeing me look over stopped.

"I am so sorry for laughing it's just you had been so serious this entire time and then let out that noise it was just so funny"she said covering her mouth with her hand.

I coughed in embarrassment and tried to laugh it off "hah yeah it's just been a while since i've had anything that good ''.

The girl got up and decided to sit down in the seat across from me uninvited. "Well if you think that's good you have to try the ones they make in Alola. I went one time and they were so so so good, but look at me just talk talk talking without introducing myself my name is Andrea '' She said offering her hand for me to shake. "Well it's nice to meet you, my name is Jake". I said, giving her hand a quick shake.

"Well Jake, what brings you to Rustboro? I had originally thought you might be a fellow coordinator judging from the Painted Pokeballs but you don't really look like a coordinator type." She said matter of factly.

I looked down and realized she was right. I had all my Pokeballs in plain view on my Bandolier and belt. "Well you're right not going for the coordinator circuit i'm going to be challenging the gyms" i said.

"Oh really how many badges do you have already and are you a sponsored trainer? How do you have such a big carry limit?"She questioned animatedly.

"Well I actually just got to the region. I haven't had a chance to battle anyone yet but I hope to get Roxanne's badge soon. As for your other question, I am sponsored by a professor". I said lying through my teeth. 'This is a problem. I was rolling around without a license and having this many Pokeballs visible is suspicious. I'm gonna have to cover up'.

"Oh wow a professor sponsored trainer , how cool but you're a little late. The circuit started about a month ago. Do you think your team is up to the task?" She asked taking a sip of her smoothie.

I smiled letting out a chuckle "Yeah I think Im good my pokemon are all fighters in there own right".

"And let me guess you're from Kanto then right I can tell from your accent" she said happily.

"Heh almost got it ,I'm actually from Rota just north of Kanto"

"Oh wow, I've never been to Rota, I've heard the palace is beautiful". Seh looked down at her watch "Crap I lost track of time. Let me get your pokegear number. I travel around so maybe we can see eachother again". '' I took out my pokegear and she plugged in her number and quickly ran off.

"I hope I see you around". I called after her disappearing a friendly girl I thought to myself. She did bring about a good point though I had all of my pokeballs in plain view which was a sign of a high level trainer and right now I was basically rolling around without a license. I did have a way to potentially forge a new identity for myself so I could participate in the Pokemon League so I had to put it into effect now.

I finished my food and got up to go to a public library in the area to use a computer. Choosing a seat away from anyone I silently released cyber who had now been devolved back to a regular Porygon and commanded him to enter the computer to hack into the database and forge me a new identity. I had told him to use my entire name as I had no reason to use an alias. It took a decently long time for Cyber to bypass the leagues firewalls without tripping any alarms since he devolved. On a document he typed up the estimated time remaining 1 hour 15 minutes.

Seeing as I had some time to kill I began to research this new world I was in. Some quick searches on the official Hoenn league website showed the legal trainer age was 16 instead of 10 which is good. I didn't want to stick out too much being the only teenager challenging. I did a quick search of the main characters I knew and found Ash was in this universe although he had just started his journey in Kanto so I probably wouldn't be bumping into him for a while. Switching my sights to the Hoenn league I found the gym leader was Roxanne whom I vaguely remember from the games as a rock type gym leader. She was also fairly young, apparently just taking the mantle from her father at 19 after completing her journey. For a beginner trainer with no badges she would apparently use 2 pokemon: a nosepass and a geodude. This information did nothing for me however as I realized none of my pokemon had any type advantages save for Gaea. I decided to just use Reptar and Boo since they didn't have any type advantage but were not at any disadvantage and using Gaea would just be too easy.

As soon as he was finally able to circumvent the security he ran into a problem which he reported to me by writing a note on the document on problem laid with my last name Katsura which was a name apparently only descendants of the fire type Kanto gym had and would raise flags in the system. Ok Cyber make me a new trainer id under the john west name, 30 minutes later he confirmed my new identity of John West a trainer from Rota and set me up with some random backstory of being an brought up a bunch of links with a paper trail and some clever photoshop manipulation into some old photos so that if you googled me it felt believable which surprised me since he was set down to a Porygon and was supposed to have much less computational power. Leaving the library it was already 5:20 so I decided to go to the pokemon center and get some lodgings for the night.

Getting to the Pokemon Center I was faced with a huge two story building. I walked up to the front desk where a symbol of the pokemon world Nurse Joy stood in all her glory.

"Why hello young man, how can I help you today?" She said, smiling down at me from behind the counter.

"Hello nurse joy i was hoping to get a room for the night." I said, returning the smile.

"Not a problem, let me just see your id to book your room". She said, holding out her hand.

I handed over my pokegear which had my id and nervously watched as she scanned it. Turns out cyber is as good a hacker as i thought and the id went through with no hiccups. "Here you go, you will be in room 205 on the second floor. Cafeteria is in the hall on the right and the Training Hall is on the left wing. Have a nice stay".

I went up to my room and saw it was a single room with a pretty decent amount of space. Sitting down on the bed I released everyone. "Virus link us up and translate all thoughts" I called out.

"Link established" came a monotone voice in my head followed by a cacophony of different thought voices. "God this sucks I miss my wings/Aw man where'd all the pretty trees go/ I want to battle/ What are we doing in this place?."

"Ok everyone calm down, we're in a Pokemon Center it's like a hotel for people and pokemon".

"What is a hotel? '' questioned Song from her perch on the bed post.

"Oh a hotel is kind of like a home that you live in for a little while. Anyway, I just wanted to update you guys that we arrived in Rustboro city so we can start our little journey. We're gonna train in the training facilities for a little so you guys can keep getting used to being back in your old forms as it's been a minute for a lot of you save for Virus".

"I could still take him," said Reptar flexing his tiny arms."Yeah yeah I bet you could," said Boo trying to instigate a fight, floating around him in encouragement. This was quickly resolved by Puffy who smacked Peptar upside the head with their paw .

"You couldn't ever win what makes you think you could now," said Puffy who then reached up to smack Boo. Reptar deflated but held his tongue while Boo laughed to himself as Puffys hit went through him as usual.

"Query:What was the beam that devolved us?" said Cyber.

"Uh good question buddy, far as I can tell it must be some type of temporal anomaly or something I had heard Dialga's roar of time could devolve pokemon so it's probably not too far the interest?". I asked as Cyber wasn't one to really speak up.

"Response: the rays seem to have adjusted my base composition giving me higher computation than should be possible based on previously archived data".

"What does all that mean?" asked Reptar.

"Hypothesis: The ray has not only devolved us but also changed our DNA".

"Interesting theory I guess we'll have to get our hands on a pokedex or something so we can figure out what happened entirely but that's another reason we need to train". I got up and clapped my hands gathering everyone's attention. "Virus can you please retreat back into your crystal so you can be with us without exposing yourself".

"Yes" came his usual monotone reply as he retreated into the crystal that I slipped into my pocket."Ok let's get going gang".

Going to the training area it was just an indoor gym area that was pretty big. There were a couple people exercising with their pokemon so I went off to the side and released everyone commanding cyber and boo to show themselves as well. Ok puffy set up the gravity field i have to see if all our progress has been reset. I had puffy scale up the gravity to 5x until it seemed no one could move regularly anymore. Hmm it seems that the devolutons weakened them as I thought they used to be able to go up to 10x gravity with ease. The size of Puffys field didn't seem to take much of a hit though as I was hit by the 5 x gravity despite being 3 meters away from them and fell to the ground. I had them run/fly/roll a couple of laps in the 5x gravity at Puffys pace as a quick warm gravity doesn't have an actual appearance being used and my pokemon were running around getting tired they must have thought i was some type of newbie trainer. I had them work out and spar for about an hour before I had puffy use heal pulse to heal their strain as I recalled them. I was about to leave the training area when I bumped into a random guy that was entering .

"Sorry my bad" I said trying to just skirt around him but to my surprise the guy stepped to the side blocking me .

"It's no problem but you know what they say now that our eyes met we gotta battle," said the guy smirking.

Is that an actual thing in this world ?. I didn't know so I said "sure lets battle".

"Names derek" he said

"Jon" I said. How many pokemon you want to battle with. "Well i got 3 myself so how does a 3v3 sound?"

"Sounds perfect", I said, taking two poke balls off my belt. I'll choose these two so that you don't think I'm cheating, I said.

3 2 1 Go Aron/Go Galvan .

"Oh wow an Alolan Geodude never seen one of those in person before" he mused before giving his first command. Aron use tackle.

Galvan jump up and fly. The Aron took off toward Galvan but was way too slow with Galvan immediately launching himself up with his strong arms as he then began to float above the field. "What the hell," said my opponent.

Galvan Autonomize and dodge anything until you're full then advise. Aron use Rock tomb trap him. What followed was silly with Galvan getting increasingly faster dodging the encirclement of rocks with ease until it finally said Geo. Aron come back, he said, pointing a pokeball only for the recall to fail as the red beam fizzled upon contact with Arons body.

Interesting i thought "Beam him up" I said and with that geodude began pelting the aron silly with charge beams until it finally went down as there was quite literally nothing it could do. Derek recalled his pokemon and said. "Well that was anticlimactic but aron doesn't have any other ranged moves so not much it could do, that was Magnet Pull right? That's the reason I couldn't recall aron back" he questioned.

"Yes, some Alolan Geodudes get that ability". I said bluffing knowing damn well Galvans ability should definitely be Galvanize.

"Unfair but whatever lets get this win trapinch" he said releasing his next pokemon.

While I knew that Galvan could probably sweep his team with how set up he was, this was training so I decided to have someone else have a turn. "Galvan return go out Cyber"i said pointing my watch face side out allowing him to come out of it.

"Man, are you a rich kid?" I've never seen a Porygon either.

I laughed "Definitely not a rich kid, I'm just lucky". I could have had cyber just fly up and set up but where's the fun in that. "Trapinch quick attack into bite," said derek. Cyber could have dodged it easily but instead I wanted to do something dramatic.

"Cyber gravity times 5" I said when Trapinch was almost upon him. Immediately Trapinch's advance stopped as it fell to the ground struggling to get up. Porygon finish it fast Tri attack . "Pory" he said, immediately firing the elemental balls toward Trapinch's prone form. Trapinch use Signal Beam. The Trapinch barely had the strength to open his mouth and shoot the beam before his mouth shut due to the gravity. The beam intercepted the tri attack but was overpowered completely before slamming straight into trapinch with way more power than it should have had knocking trapinch out.

"Jesus are you sure you're a new trainer because this is kind of embarrassing" he said recalling Trapinch. "Well it's all up to you now Taillow" he said, a little defeated.

I recalled Cyber as well and brought out my last pokemon Song.

"Swablu" she sung as she narrowed her eyes at the Tailow opposite her. To the air we both said at the same time. Tailow use Quick Attack he said.

Deflect it with Steel Wing then use Air Cutter. Songs wing slammed into Tailows body forcing it back then she flapped her wings releasing air blades that made taillow cry out in pain.

Aerial Ace called Derek. Song Hyper Voice. The voice made taillow cancel its move to dodge. Aerial ace wwe both said again and song dived down at taillow both attacks meeting and canceling each other out as song overpowered Taillow causing it to fall to the ground in pain. It wasn't over yet though as Tailow was still in the fight. "Use Hurricane" Derek said, catching Song off guard and doing some decent damage to her. "Use roost" I said and voila with a flash of white her injuries cleared.

"Ok battle end". he said recalling taillow. "I know when I'm beat there's no reason to make Taillow get knocked out," he said.

Song landed on my head and began cleaning her feathers. "God are all your pokemon that strong?" He asked.

"More or less" I said thinking about how in their prime they could probably even wipe the floor with the champion.

"Well then i declare you my rival he said our battles will be legendary" he said running off before i had the chance to even respond. Shrugging this up as anime shenanigans I recalled Song and took everyone to nurse joy for healing while I got some food at the cafeteria.

After I munched out on some Magikarp fillet which was pretty good I retrieved my pokemon and had them eat some of the provided pokefood for those that actually ate while i planned for the gym battle.

Since Roxanne used rock types I could just use gaea but I didn't have anyone who would be a good fit as the only one who knew a grass type move was Cyber or Reptar with his iron move. Some more research indicated the gym had gym trainers to weed out the weak competitors and not waste the leaders time and according to the internet there were 3 trainers then Roxanne's team of 2-3 so 5-6 of my pokemon could potentially fight if I make sure to switch out. I decided to let Drax go first as he was being annoying begging me to go first. Next in the double battle would be Puffy and Galvan. Leaving the gym battle for Reptar and Boo.

After I finished my planning I still had one thing bugging me which was why my pokemon were so much different than I remembered them being. I decided to investigate so I went to Nurse Joy and asked her if there was any machine to check my Pokemons abilities.

"Why yes there is," she said, bringing me over to some machine. "Just place your pokeball in this machine and a comprehensive scan will be completed in a moment".

I decided to put Galvan first, placing his boulder like pokeball on the contraption. A red light passed over the pokeball scanning it before the screen in front of me was populated with information.

On the screen populated the overall health and species of my Alolan Geodude all which was in line with what I had previously seen. What was different however was the ability section which read: Abilities: Sturdy/Galvanize/Magnet Pull. "Oh my," said the Joy who was still by my side. "How incredibly lucky young man you got yourself a pokemon with an Ancient gene".

"I'm sorry ma'am I don't know what that means. Could you please explain what exactly that means?" I asked confused.

"It is no problem. Ancients are not mentioned as often as the Alpha or Shiny gene due to how much rarer they are , so I will explain. So as you know a pokemon's gene pool determines what a pokemon can do, for example Alpha gene pokemon will be bigger and more powerful than their regular counterparts with Shiny pokemon being ever so slightly more powerful and differently colored".

"Yes I know that" I said thinking to the Alpha Regi Trio back in the tree of life.

"Well there is a 3rd set of genes. As we know back in ancient times pokemon were not as genetically different and as such pokemon with this rare gene are born with the inherent traits of their ancestors giving them a larger movepool as well as the abilities of their ancestors. In short you basically hit the lottery young man".

I couldn't help myself and began laughing hysterically. "You don't know the half of it, please do me a favor and scan the rest of my pokemon". Turns out the ray we got hit with did more than devolve them and all of my pokemon received this Ancient gene which nearly made Nurse Joy faint.

This revelation of Ancient genes definitely answered my question as Cyber had Trace Download, Analytic and Adaptability leading to him basically being boosted to all hell when he attacked. Thanking my lucky stars I got ready for bed and snuggled up with my pokemon as I hadn't slept with them all since they were smaller , all of their evolved forms were too big. I drifted off into sleep hugging Puff's soft body with Drax and Reptar hugging my legs and song perched on the headrest. "Life sure is good", I said to myself passing out shortly after.
