Test Begins

The Administrator timed Koshi and Ko's arrival perfectly. He stood outside his building, his heightened vision spotting the two, before they could see him.

Through their walk Ko remained silent, not something Koshi would consider unusual, before the current situation.

“How are you at the moment?” Koshi asked, eyeing Ko meticulously.

Ko nodded, his expression calm and calculated.

Koshi sighed. “Alright… That's good,” She said, a bit down, she didn't receive a verbal response from Ko.

In an instance she sharpened her focus, in sight of the Administrator. Feeling confident she'll excel whatever the test may be.

The Administrator greeted them, some enthusiasm expressed in his tone.

“I'm honored to be in your presence,” Her eyes glow with determination, “And yes, I'm quite ready for the test.”

“Also, apologies if we kept you waiting,” She said, glancing down at Ko.

The Administrator's gaze fell on Ko. He observed him for an excessive amount of time. “He'll be accompanying you,” He gestured to Ko.

This surprised Koshi, never once thinking Ko would also be involved in this. She was unsure of Ko's opinion of this, even if he does seem unbothered.

"Now…" Raising his hand, Ko and Koshi are instantly transported to the same island called The Dark Lands for their test.

In the midst of dangerous territory Ko's senses are at an all-time high, his mind solely focused on protecting his Koshi and himself. The thick fog made it extremely difficult for any of them to see.

Slightly unsheathing his sword, Ko walks from Koshi's side, hoping to spot the enemy first.

The sound of heavy footsteps echoed through the quiet land. The source of said sound getting closer to their location.

The sounds got close enough for them to be able to guess the general location and from said location from the fog a completely deformed entity dragged its long overgrown arms across the ground.

“Oh! The lesser mimic?” Koshi questioned unimpressed, yet feeling a more immense energy not typical of Lesser Mimics. Forming a small flame in the palm of her hand. “Ko, no need to get close combat, I'll just destroy it from here.”

Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.

In one swift second it lunged at them, covering what distance there was in less than five seconds, raising and striking at them with its enlarged grotesque hand.

Ko and Koshi got themselves in the air, avoiding it by a mere second.

“Unnatural…” Koshi grumbled. “I guess I shouldn't be surprised, this isn't gonna be easy.”

The lesser mimic remained motionless until they landed back on solid ground. It faced their direction moving slowly towards them.

A flow of flaming aura builds up around Koshi, triggering the lesser mimic to rush towards again.

Ko meets up the mimic, unsheathing his blade and severing it in half with one slash from his sword.

It remains motionless, supposedly dead. Ko thinks of checking himself to see if the job is finished.

“Ko don't! Disintegration works best for these things,” Koshi shouted to Ko. Still charging her attack.

The body of the lesser mimic stretches out to attach itself back together in quick succession.

It threw itself to its feet, trying immediately to get a hold of Ko. This attempt is dodged, once then over, and over again as it grows more furious from Ko slipping through his fingers.

Distracted the lesser mimic only caught wind of what Koshi had prepared for it once it felt a raging heat surging from her… by then it was too late as she unleashed her complex skill: Flowing crimson, a high intense beam that annihilated the lesser mimic, melting it down to nothing.

Koshi breathed heavily, finding herself more exhausted than she expected, but felt relief to have taken care of the threat.

“Got it…” Koshi murmured, running over to check on Ko.

Ko sheaths his sword, a calm expression on his face.

Koshi embraced Ko, and did a quick checkup of his body for any injury.

“Hey, hey, I'm fine,” Ko murmured, trying to hide his embarrassment.

Koshi flashed him an Impish smile. “Oh, I know.”

Koshi and Ko are abruptly transported back. The administrator nodded to himself, his confidence in what he can achieve now cemented by this test.

Koshi let go Ko. Finding herself being embarrassed as if she'd been caught in the act of doing something wrong.

“Very well done. You're promising indeed,” The Administrator said with full confidence.

A broad smile formed on Koshi's face. Hearing those words filled her with even more confidence, to the point she may overestimate her own abilities.

“Promising I am indeed,” She thought over to herself.

The Administrator could see the confidence in her grin, broad and proud. A slight worrying sign he hopes doesn't develop any further.

“We will speak again, Koshi. Until then…”

Koshi nodded. “Yes, Of course.” She rested her hands on her hips, “A bit overconfident, but I feel I can do anything…” Koshi thought.

She bowed and turned to leave.

“Promising huh?” Koshi thought, finding herself repeating this over and over again on her walk back.

Ko tilted his head, and eyed Koshi. “Is this worth it?” Ko abruptly asked, his voice monotone.

Koshi pondered a bit, not seeing an issue, whether this worked out or not.

“Hey, now, this will be a good thing for everyone. Nothing is going well here now, so if I could help, I'd love that,” Koshi pleads, wanting Ko's approval.

“I wonder who's fault is that?” Ko remarked. “I don't want to fix someone's else's problems. Especially someone like him. He's gone now, just let everything he built die.”

Koshi stops, shocked by Ko's words. She grabbed a hold of his hand, spinning him around. Looking into his eyes. “Don't ever say that,” Koshi said in a firm tone.

Ko stared at her blankly. “Uh-huh. I hope the Demon King's advisors die…” Ko said nonchalantly, to rile Koshi up more.

“Oh… Now, that's very reasonable…” Koshi remarked, very understanding of Ko’s views.
