Chapter 8 - The Workshop

Chapter 8 - The Workshop

As days had passed since Janks's negotiation with the captain, and the workshop was finally complete. Janks couldn't believe it - he had his own space to work on his inventions, and he was determined to make the most of it.

Janks stood in the middle of his room, surrounded by piles of books, papers, and various tools and artifacts. He was almost giddy with excitement at the thought of finally having his own workshop.

"Are you sure you have everything you need?" Gibson asked, watching as Janks carefully packed a delicate-looking instrument into a box.

"I think so," Janks replied, grinning from ear to ear. "I can't wait to get started on all my new projects!"

Gibson chuckled and shook his head. "I can tell. You're practically bouncing off the walls."

Janks laughed and continued packing, carefully wrapping each of his precious items in bubble wrap and placing them in the boxes. After a few minutes of intense concentration, he stood up and dusted off his hands.

"Okay, I think I'm ready to go," he said, looking around the room one last time.

Gibson nodded and picked up one of the boxes. "Come on, then. Let's get you settled into your new workshop."

As he and Gibson walked towards the workshop, Janks couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement bubbling up inside him. He had always dreamed of having a space like this, and now it was finally a reality.

The workshop was a small, unassuming building, nestled in the corner of the estate. It had no windows, and the door was made of thick oak wood, reinforced with iron bars.

As Janks and Gibson approached the workshop, they couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. This was going to be Janks's new home, a place where he could work on his inventions and creations without fear of interference.

Gibson noticed the look on Janks's face and chuckled. "I can tell you're excited," he said, nudging Janks with his elbow. "But try not to show it too much, okay? You don't want people thinking you're an eager little kid."

Janks blushed, knowing that Gibson was right. He didn't want anyone to think that he was just a kid who was over his head. But he couldn't help the sense of pride he felt as he walked into the workshop. It was spacious and well-lit, with all the tools and materials he could possibly need.

Gibson pushed open the door, and the two of them stepped inside. The workshop was dimly lit, but as their eyes adjusted to the darkness.

In the center of the room, there were several stone slabs that seemed to glow with an otherworldly energy. Each one was etched with intricate runes that seemed to pulse with power. Next to the stone slabs were several glowing energy cores and a variety of ingredients that Janks had personally requested.

Along the walls, there were rows and rows of goggles that Janks had personally designed and given to a blacksmith to be made. Each pair was unique, with different lenses and features that Janks had carefully crafted.

As Janks and Gibson packed up Janks's things and prepared to move them to the new workshop, a man came to the door and delivered a message from the captain.

"The captain wants those goggles as soon as possible," the man said sternly. "He's ordered me to stand guard outside the workshop until they're finished."

Janks's heart sank. He had hoped to have a little more time to work on the goggles in peace, but it seemed that the captain was in a hurry.

"I'll get started right away," Janks said, trying to hide his disappointment.

Janks grabbed a stone slab that already had carved runes on it and carefully poured a glowing energy liquid onto it. As the liquid touched the stone, a small light orb appeared, hovering above the slab. It produced a warm, golden light and a gentle heat that seemed to radiate outward.

With a deep breath, Janks set to work, focusing all his energy on creating the best goggles he possibly could.

Gibson watched from the doorway, a smile spreading across his face as he saw the look of pure joy on Janks's face. He knew how much this meant to his friend, and he was happy to see him so happy.

"I'll leave you to it," Gibson said, patting Janks on the shoulder. "I'll check back in on you later."

Janks nodded, already lost in thought as he gazed at the various tools and materials scattered around the workshop. "Thanks, Gibson. I'll see you later," he said absently.

Gibson chuckled and left the workshop, leaving Janks to his work. Janks's mind was racing with all the different projects he wanted to tackle. He had always been a tinkerer at heart, and now that he had a proper workshop at his disposal, he couldn't wait to get to work

Janks carefully placed the stone slab on the table and picked up his carving tool. He had spent hours studying the intricate designs of the runes, and he knew that this was a task that required extreme precision. One single mistake could ruin the entire process.

He began carving the runes into the stone slab, taking his time to make sure each one was perfect.

Finally, it was time to combine the carved runes and the goggles to create the artifact. Janks heated up the energy core and mixed in a few secret ingredients, creating a glowing, pulsing energy source.

With everything prepared, Janks picked up the stone slab and placed the goggles on top of it. He watched as the runes came to life, swirling around the goggles as if they were merging with it.

When the process was complete, Janks was pleased to see that the goggles had become an artifact. The stone slab, however, had been used up in the process and needed to be carved again in order to create another pair of artifact goggles.

He started by trying out the zooming lenses, which allowed him to see things in incredible detail from far away. Next, he switched to the night goggles function, and finally, he activated the heat sensors.

As he scanned the room with the goggles, he saw a group of rats scurrying around in the corner. Janks let out a triumphant laugh as he realized that the goggles were working perfectly.

Satisfied that the goggles were working perfectly, Janks set them aside and got to work on creating more. He knew he had a lot of pairs to make, and he was determined to get them all done as quickly as possible.

With a renewed sense of purpose, Janks set to work carving the runes into the stone slabs with extreme precision.

As he worked, Janks couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment and pride. He had always known he had a talent for runes and magic, and now he was finally able to put those skills to good use. He couldn't wait to see what the future held for him and his workshop.

As Janks worked tirelessly on his goggles, he lost track of time. The hours seemed to fly by as he focused on his task, pouring his energy and passion into the work. It wasn't until the light orb that he had created to provide heat and light in the workshop vanished that Janks realized just how much time had passed. He grinned to himself, feeling a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that he hadn't felt in a long time. He couldn't wait to see what the future held now that he had a place to call his own.
