The crisp voice of the female announcer resounded sharply in the busy plaza of the city. The big tv screens affixed on the buildings showed the game’s logo, a golden tree with seven fruits hanging from its branches. Then they changed to show different ads.
A good number of the people glanced at the game ad, eyes shining at the prospective of a new experience like never before.
In the past 20 years there have been more and more VR games on the market, leaving behind to dust the older generation of console and pc games. For the younger generation, virtual reality games were incomparable to the old relics of the past. Only a few, stubborn old people would cling to those obsolete games.
However, the VR games had yet to completely reproduce real life senses. There were very few games that managed to reproduce taste and smell, but they were still far from their real life counterparts. Dishes would taste bland, and delicate scents couldn’t be smelled.
But everything changed with the release of the beta of EO:WA.
When it was still in its alpha phase, people scoffed at the ambition of the project. The fact that someone claimed to be able to release an all-round VR game was utterly proposterous.
However, against all odds, DoioGiants delivered its promise. The first beta testers were blown away by the world that was created. They praised the game so much that some of the big company names started investing bilions in EO:WA.
From that moment the game was heavely publicized. Every medium that could be used for publicity was used 24/24 7/7. Even poor old Tom in the old district was forced to affix the game’s banner on top of his potatoes stall. Of course he got payed quite handsomely for it.
The advertisement for the game was so much that you could bet that even the sewer rats were advertising for it with cute little tags on their tails.
Everyone and their grandmas knew about the game by the fourth day of the beta release.

In one of the luxurious restaurants in Campbell City, the family gathering of the prestigious Modigliani family was taking place.
The patriarch, a man in his 80s with perfectly curated mustaches, was taking slow bites of his food while the rest of the family was nervously looking at their plates, none daring to take a bite.
Once he finished eating, he used the napkin elegantely before looking at the family.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
“I know that you’ve already rejected my business advice once a couple of years ago” Some of the older guys and women trembled in silence. “You said that investing in such a silly project was going to result in only losses” He paused, swiping his eyes over everyone that was keeping their head down “But look at the game now: it has become an international success, even vanting an in-game instantaniuos translator for easier comunication between players” The ones that were keeping their head down hoped they could hide under the table, no even better: they hoped they could be swallowed whole by the floor.
Vittorio Modigliani, the patriarch, knocked his finger on the table rhytmically “Now we’re too late to invest in the game” He turned a sharp gaze to all of the old crooks in the room “But it’s not like we have no chance of profit”
The old crooks returned to life at those words, mouths smiling at their esteemed patriarch. Vittorio scoffed at that sight. They’ve never changed once in 60 years.
“We’ll aim to consolidate our business in Elisyum Online: Worlds of Arcadia and our younger generation will aim for the top 20 Guild position” At those words it was the youngsters’ turn to be excited. Fame. Glory. Power. A king’s position in the new world was guaranteed with the family’s backing.
The patriarch showed a big, confident smile. “Don’t disappoint me”

In a shabby apartment in the old district of Campbell City, Rye Ward, a guy in his 17s woke up dripping with sweat. He touched every part of his body to make sure that everything was still in its place.
He looked around in confusion before looking with trembling hands at his phone. Looking at the date, 24th of August 2133, he started crying before retreating like a turtle under the bedsheets.
“This… Was it all a dream…?”
He remebered the dark red sky. He rembered the screams and smell of blood. He remebered a monster with golden eyes devouring the city. He remembered the pain of dying a slow, agonizing death.
No, his instincts were telling him that it was no dream.
Elisyum Online… That game was the start of everything...
Putting out only his arm, he grabbed the phone, before scrolling the news under the false security of the sheets.

In a cozy home in the suburbs of Panlei City, three little devils were running around the living room, all excited after watching the ad for Elisyum Online.
“I can’t wait to smack around some monsters!” said the one jumping on and off the two couches while battling imaginary enemies.
The only girl of the group was rolling around on the floor in excitement “The food! The food! We can eat all of the delicious food we want!”
“We can escape the tyranny of the evil overlords!” screamed the last one while posing heroically.
“You three! Stop running around this instant or you’ll get no cake for dinner!” From the kitchen emerged an old lady, shaking her ladle threathengly.
The three kids immediately stopped. They looked at each other, eyes full of panic. As if in sync they rushed to their grandma, grabbing her legs and looking up pitfully.
“Grandma don’t! We’ll be good, promise!”
“Don’t take our chocolate cake!”
“Pleeeeeeeease, we can’t live without it!”
“Tidy up the living room before I change my mind” the grandma’s heart softened at the kids pleas. She wouldn’t really deny them their cake, but she wanted to scare them a little.
“Yes sir!” they chanted in unison and scrambled to get the room tided as fast as possible.
The grandma stifled a laugh and went back to cooking. Today’s dinner was going to be quite lively.
