(39) The Fox is in the Henhouse キツネは鶏小屋にいる Kitsune wa niwatori koya ni iru

Furyo had gotten word of a gang of youth delinquents from a private school called “Zombie Perverts” They had been suspecting in several abductions but due to pressure from prominent families and a lack of bodies the police were at a stand still. This powerlessness did not prevent the spirit world of the Hell Priests to seek retribution and seek out the souls of the missing girls for astral salvation, sending the restless spirits back into the meat grinder of reincarnation. This could only be accomplished with a brutal series of events that included removing those causing harm and ritualistically cleansing the bodies properly for cremation. Their most famous victim was an abducted schoolgirl named Junko Furuta, they tortured her to death over weeks and abandoned her body in a barrel full of cement discarded in an abandoned lot. Found weeks later because her rotting foot was sticking out, drawing attention from passers by.

The private school had a military structure and took only the sons of wealthy business heads. The Zombie Perverts gang hung out in an abandoned mall that was closed to widen a subway line, funding to the project suddenly stopped and the entire mall fell into disrepair, several of its lower levels became inundated with water from a storm a few years ago. This left a sad edifice of broken glass and graffiti, where lone school girls were taken and abused. Never to be seen again. Furyo and Angelina smelled decay as soon as they entered the main gate. Somewhere were the bodies of 7 missing girls. Sounds of mean spirited laughter and thunderous skateboards roared from within the sunken darkness.

Trudging into brackish water filling the submerged first level, Furyo feels uncomfortable in his own skin. Coming to a dark video arcade and pachinko room, every thing inside is covered in moss and mushrooms. From an adjacent room, sounds of discomfort and struggling draw their attention. Behind a smashed up wall were 3 girls, gagged and in a state of undress. Angelina helps the girls get free of their bonds and helps them get safely to the street outside to summon the police. Furyo feels a little more like him self as he has no Tenshi observer expecting some kind of angelic conduct from him.

As he moves farther into the abandoned mall, he comes to a stuck escalator going up to a sunlit atrium where the Zombie Perverts have an improvised skate ramp. Bathed in dull grey light from the overcast day and broken windows above. This place looks like it was hit by a tidal wave, turning all the walls black and green with crawling life. Furyo smiles as the Zombie Perverts scuffle amongst them selves, wearing cheap knockoff halloween masks and drinking jugs of wine. It almost reminds him of his own childhood associates back in San Francisco. All sentimental thoughts of the old days as he sees two of them taking turns on a passed out girl who looks like her head has been smashed in with a brick.

Furyo screams in rage and kicks an empty bottle across the floor towards them. The Zombie Perverts have far more members lurking in the shadows. As many as 30 of them emerge from burned out shops, from sleeping behind stolen furniture and deeper into the mezzanine. They don’t waste any time rushing Furyo with iron bars and chains. Furyo wastes no energy on glancing blows, every movement he makes is engineered to cause permanent injury. Kicking knees backwards, breaking cheekbones, stomping testicles and poking out eyes. Furyo forgets for a moment these are high school Chimpira, but since they have a hobbies of kidnapping girls and leaving bodies discarded in cement filled barrels or dissolving in acid baths in abandoned factories, there will be no political pressure stopping divine justice.

Furyo stops short of beating them to death, but not one escapes her feral rage as his sympathetic empath abilities fill his arms with a steal like rage as the voices of the lost and permanently traumatized girls whisper lists of crimes. Furyo doesn’t feel the need to beat them to death, he figures stomping their pelvises flat, cutting off noses and eye lids will leave their faces too horrible to lure any more girls into dark side streets or abandoned houses. The horror of some of the things he sees in his minds eye shock him. These cowards burned girls with boiling water, tortured them with jumper cables, broke girls bones and sold some to organized crime groups based on Dubai and Hong Kong. There must be a greater quest for retribution as many of the worst offenders were safe in office towers and working in boiler rooms of container ships.

Sounds of whimpering and chittering teeth fill Furyo with a cosmic high. Somewhere deep in his soul a toxic pleasure is felt known this gang of rapists will all need tens of thousands of dollars in reconstructive surgery, physical therapy and likely need therapy to avoid mass suicide as their families will be over shadowed with their crimes for decades to come. Now that the fun part is over, Furyo gathers up the corpses of missing girls. Creating a funeral pyre he says blessings, offering wreaths of flowers and incense, he ceremonially calls each name. Chanting prayers in both Japanese and Sanskrit, honoring Buddhist and Shinto belief systems for the Japanese girls and some limited Korean for others.

He chimes a deep resounding bell shaped like a small bowl, writing blessings on pieces of paper he covers the sorrowful face of each victim. In the half light of the cloudy day, a ray from heaven comes down to guide spiritual body of each girl to paradise. Tears fill his eyes but he smiles at each of the ghosts as they meet their ancestors and walk into fields of flowers in a soft and gentle wind. Some of the girls kiss him on the face and ask him if they can be his friends when he comes to the peaceful place between incarnations. He doesn’t know when that time will come, but he ensures them he will be their ear to hear them out if they are ever feeling sad or unsure about changing their astral form to a new life when their restful piece of eternity takes them to a new horizon and better place.
